Looks like a tiny course for show jumping. All you need is a tiny horse. (Cool idea thanks Collin)

Even better : use right angle header pins. Very useful for SMD LEDs.

I've fenagled some interesting work to get smd on through hole PCBs but never once occurred to me to solder to header like this, looks so clean.

And here's me wondering what I could possibly do with a few dozen salvaged SMD components I'd done for originally purely for practice. Thanks Colin!

That's an awesome tip I hadn't thought of. Got any good ways to use SOT-23 transistors in a breadboard or other 0.1 inch environment? Also you can stack more than one mlcc (capacitor) this way to get the characteristics you want, if you're careful, I've been told

If you're willing to jumper to the middle pin, I suspect the same technique would work great. (starting with 3 header pins ofc)

Nice! Another tip: not sure where I learnt this but I use a piece of paper as a very very fine sanding paper and I rub smd components on it to “polish” the “more often than not oxide” layer. This way the legs remain flat and it requires less flux to flow properly. Also that makes me more confident that the underside is properly wetted with tin (I found it the hard way when an old component did not solder properly and just made a “shell” around the legs which shortly after caused cracks to appear with a lengthy debugging session…)

Potentiometers are quite useful for breadboard development work. Most of us will have through hole versions of non-semiconductor parts anyway.

I've done this with 0603 passives, and it wouldn't surprise me if you could go down to 0402. It also lets you test smt passives with a component tester 👍

Something really handy would be smd-0.1' adapter boards that hold the smd part removably. Like with the through hole IC sockets. Anything to that effect out there?

I don’t understand how to use a breadboard at all
@SianaGearz
@SianaGearz 2 роки тому
Maybe don't, they're evil. They provide terrible connections. But if you have to use one, it's easy, they have connections running across the board, and then a couple busbars for power and such things running along the board. Sometimes there are deliberate breaks in connections. Just use your multimeter in continuity board to explore the internal connections, or you can often pull off the backing tape to even see them.
