I always found it funny that Palpatine would be pretty close to getting someone to give in to the dark side, and then when they're just about to cross the point of no return, he says something to the effect of, "Yes! Give in to your hate! Strike down my apprentice Vader, who is your own flesh and blood! That is exactly what I want you to do - you going ahead with what you are about to do will fulfill my evil agenda perfectly! Please continue!" Then, upon hearing this, the hero has second thoughts and ends up deciding to go with restraint after all. Go figure. The big one is with Luke at the end of Return of the Jedi, but pretty sure he does the same thing at least a couple other times in the prequels & sequels, too.
