The costs of everybody's insurance goes up too. The more money the company has to pay out the more they are going to charge customers with their rates.

Yeah insurance is a for profit business. I worked corporate side for one, they're as cutthroat (often more) as any other industry. Once it becomes apparent a client is carrying unreasonable risk the insurance company is gonna hike rates through the roof or drop them as a client causing the retailer to pull out of the market. Insurance companies aren't just gonna hand out millions of merchandise by proxy by insuring businesses in areas that decide stealing isn't a crime anymore. This will hit a breaking point with the average joe feeling the lion's share of the consequences.

We do it different ways. I never stole, but I used fake bills to "buy" plenty of things at stores. I called all my credit card companies to got myself up to like $30k in credit, spend 9 months buying groceries and paying bills with cash advances, then filed bankruptcy once I was working again. I have a friend that has lived in downtown SF for the last 25 yrs. He used to have an old van he used to drive out of the city to visit friends and family in SJ. 1967 dodge van that looked like the mystery mobile from Scooby Doo. He NEVER kept ANYTHING valuable in it, even in the beginning. Then the homeless starting doing drugs and having sex in it. He thought it was gross and dangerous enough that he had to wear thick gloves to clean it out of used condoms and needles. The final straw was when they all starting using it as a bathroom and actually taking dumps in the vehicle. THEN he finally sold it and now rents a car for just a day.

It definitely feels that way. I live in Texas. I used to idolize San Francisco and the Bay Area as the center of the tech industry, and dreamed of living there… not any more. I think I’ll stick with Fort Worth. If criminals getting away with crime is what “woke” looks like, then I don’t want any part of it. Even minor crimes add up, especially when they are widespread; it hurts people’s quality of life. In my opinion, everyone should have the opportunity to make an honest living; access to jobs might be the antidote to a life of crime for some people, but they have to want to change their ways (unfortunately, some will not be willing to change). As a parallel to this, there are homeless people who do not want to go into shelters (and avoid getting help) because they don’t want to follow the shelter’s rules, particularly when it comes to drug use. If somebody would rather live a life of crime, and/or remain addicted to drugs, they are going to continue doing so. Interventions and incentives can be helpful when it comes to nudging people in the right direction, but the individual person must be willing to change (and they have to live with the consequences of their actions, good or bad). Yes, I’m a trans woman, out and proud. If someone like me is criticizing aspects of “the woke agenda,” you know there’s a problem.
