Insane how they have never attacked humans except for in captivity which honestly... is the humans own fault.

Gentle Giants? They can surgically remove the liver from a great white shark, and have been known to kill whales just to eat the tongue. They just don’t see humans as food and are incredibly smart. They are the true Apex predator of the ocean.

I doubt they have never attacked humans, but the only humans who have likely been attacked are hunters/fisherman that live in very remote areas. An Inuit man goes out on his kayak, a hungry and desperate Orca decides to take him, and his village just assumes he got lost at sea or died from rough waves. It also helps that they generally live in areas where humans can't swim due to water temperature so Orcas rarely meet humans in a vulnerable environment. If Orcas lived in tropical waters attacks would likely be much more common.

Off the coast of Spain and the Gibraltar straighten have been having orcas attack sail boats. They been doing coordinated attacks, ramming the hull and chewing up the rudders. They've damaged allot of boats and even sank a small fishing boat. No one has been hurt as of yet. The fishers who had their boat sank had another larger boat near by that they were able to get to before the little one sank. It's the same pod of really young orcas doing it. They don't appear to have an older Matriarch guiding them in these attacks.

I remember reading that the encounter at 5:48 was one of the largest pods ever seen. The last one is an orca people named Luna. Very very sad story because he got really lonely after getting separated from his pod so it sought human companionship[p. The only thing it loved more than hanging out with people was making friends with dogs. Several videos showing Luna bobbing up and down as it interacted with dogs. Nitwits claimed Luna saw the dogs as prey, but several vantage points indicated the dogs were within striking distance as Luna bounced up and down. It's the companionship it had with people is what got it killed by the props of a tugboat. Absolutely heart breaking.

@@skullhelmet1944 They aren't whales, they are members of the Dolphin family. The original Spanish name for them when properly translated was "Whale killer" (the name originally comes from the Spanish) (due to their diet which includes whales) they are called "Killer Whales" in English because the English speakers who adopted the name apparently didn't understand context and just translated the Spanish name as it was written "asesina ballenas" and got "Killer Whale" creating the misconception. Depending on the context "asessina ballenas" could either mean Whale killer or Killer/assassin of whale's "killer whale", the Spanish clearly meant the former according to the sources covering the subject.

I went diving with orca whales before, they are actually really calm if you know how to behave yourself in their presence, you need to filter out any fear and stress and just go for it, they treat you like another one of themselves(just a smaller version), I seen orcas with babies as well, those are a bit more protective, they would nudge you a bit to tell you, stay away, so I kept my distance. They are extremely smart animals, and very dangerous predators at that, but that doesn’t mean the moment they see you, you’re done for. It’s a great experience regardless.

He may be one of the indigenous people, and they have great respect for Orca, and I think they believe they are ancestors... if not that, then maybe they hold them sacred for some other reason, but either way, and whether or not that guy is even one of the indigenous people, he’s interacting with a whale that lost its family/pod, and basically was adopted by the people of that village/bay (or Luna adopted them as family). If you don’t know what I’m talking about at all, there’s a documentary on Luna you can easily find on UKposts, which I recommend. Orcas are cool because that don’t attack humans. But I’d hardly call them beautiful given they will actively torture there prey before eating it, and are even known to kill and torture solely for fun. You can even find a video of a pod of Orcas brutally torturing a sting ray for over an hr before it finally died. When it did, the pod just watched it sink to the ocean floor, and then left. They aren’t called killer whales for no reason, hell they literally give Great white sharks PTSD.

@hazardous8301
@hazardous8301 2 роки тому
@@alexknox1596 not really. Most predators on the planet don’t kill unless either defending themselves/territory/offspring, or they’re hungry. Killer whales are one of the few animals on the planet to be recorded killing for fun. Not the only mind you, but funny enough most of the others aren’t predators.

Reminds me of the time I was on my Hobie Pro Angler kayak off Newport Beach. I caught a big wave and tipped me over. A pod of Dolphins were swimming around me and two of them came up and tipped my kayak upright. As I was climbing into the kayak the Dolphin picked me up onto my kayak. One of the most amazing experiences . Dolphins and Orcas are extremely smart, I was told by Marine biologist that they have protected people from sharks.
