This video, with a spoken commentary explaining what is going on, is far better than the commentary-free ASMR-style vids eFixxx normally put out! The trunk clips seem like a great idea, even with drilling holes with a battery drill, not the old style electric drill and 110 extension lead on temporary building site power.

Thanks - We publish both types of video - a short video to generate interest and an indepth product review.

Work well with tray in my experience, havent used with trunking

Fantastic idea . But drill holes in the trunking should be a breeze if you use good quality sharp drill bits. After all you’re drilling through fin metal sheet not a solid block of metal. Also cable tray is already perforated so securing it is the struts shouldn’t cause any problems at all .

For tray yes, for trunking looks horrendous

not sure it's as much about looks but I guess things like that are a matter of taste/opinion..

I have a few concerns straight away - 1-I understand a weight test has been carried out and we see the kilogram loading it can handle if installed upside down but the real world does not play a straight hand, what if something fell on the trunking, a forklift nudge it or an installer put too much pressure on it, with standard strut and spring zebs assembly we do see a good resistance to such scenarios with even major warping of the trunking long before it crashes down, with these clips I foresee spring failure and the subsequent weight carrying on the next clip creating a domino effect and bring the lot down. 2 -Have the clips when secured in place been subjected and tested to expected fault currents given it could be a return path for a fault? 3 -Do the clip continue to provide good support in the event of a fire, given the metal may be heat treated to provide that desired sprung shape will this be lost when subject to high temperatures again an issue if trunking is hanging? Just seeing that Kg hanging capacity I would almost certainly not recommend this type of clip for supporting long lengths for the very reason pointed out in no1 and possibly no3. Manufacturers feedback would be welcome if you are in contact with them.

...put more clips up, to ensure the boxing stays in place. This will win anyway, as it is so much quicker...job done, on to the next, lower cost, lower bids, more work! If the fire is hot enough to soften steel, the entire building will be demolished and rebuilt, with all-new wiring and containment! Presumably, the lengths of containment would still be earth-bonded, not rely on the clips for that...

@@Ironic1950 you don't understand shock force, unless you're gonna have a ridiculous amount of clips it really shouldn't be used for hanging trinking imho, I have seen the weight if one length of lighting trunking dropping onto a similar hung trunking (not these clip but the wrap around style) take down an entire factory trunking system. Once you take out one of these kinds of clips the shock loading plus the weight of trunking and contents suddenly adds to the next clip and a domino effect occurs.
@Ironic1950
@Ironic1950 25 днів тому
@genome616 sounds implausible, despite what you say, and what about shock load on the hanging screwed rod holding up the unistrut? Plainly, the vast majority of containment is simply resting on Unistrut, and the clips are just stopping it moving, not holding any weight as such. Shock loads will pull the screwed rod out of the ceiling, and only then is there any likelihood of the clips being loaded. As I said, clips will take over because they are much quicker, and therefore cheaper, while the failure you talk of is both rare and probably involved some other factor you were not aware of. Lowest estimate usually wins the job...

@@Ironic1950 35 yrs in the trade, I've seen 3 systems down by impacts totally, I've seen hundreds damaged, bent, distorted or partially collapsed because there fixings were robust and didn't create the domino effect because if this. That is why I asked for manufacturers input, could you hang 150 m of trunking with these clips, run a forklift load into its side and only maintain local damage, from experience I can't see these kind pf clips holding at close to point of impact an as soon as you lose a few clips all the trunking load shifts to the next one and at only 9kg stable holding there is little to stop a domino effect. I am interested, do you have any links or vested interest in the product or company selling these? I suggest you check the weight limits of more robust systems when hanging and realise how weak these clips are, the lips that sit under the lid will just unfurl, noting here lighting trunking is lid to the bottom as well.
@Ironic1950
@Ironic1950 25 днів тому
@@genome616 As I remarked, the weight of containment and cable is supported from below by Unistrut, held up by expanding bolts in the concrete ceiling, so the weight-carrying capacity of the clips is irrelevant in most situations, and tray and trunk would not move even with no securing mechanisms. Any impact that pulls expanding bolts out of the ceiling is more than containment is designed for anyway!

No way are all those clips fitted correctly. Some of them have not been fully hooked over the trunking. I'm not saying they are going to spring off, but they are not consistent. Perhaps some of them have been bent?

Dumb drilling 8mm for a 6mm.bolt. and wise up at the length of that bolt. Hard to say whether this really fixes or improves anything though, but not a bad idea.
