Turbo Diesel Go-Kart W/CVT Top Speed

I give the Turbo Diesel Go-Kart another shot at a high-speed run but this time I mounted a torque converter setup to the 10 horsepower Kohler diesel engine.
the torque was out of this world it was so much fun to drive, the top speed was decent but I know for sure if I tweak it I can do better, not sure if I'm going to do another episode on this one or not, if I do I'm going to keep it very simple or I just make a larger drive gear to see what the maximum is with this engine.

Make a 20T drive gear! The Diesel with the CVT would easily be able to pull that tall gearing and there would be a lot more room for the CVT to do its thing and get you to a higher top speed.

Yeah, the cvt is "topping out" too quickly. I bet a good gear setup will get 45+ out of it. I definately want to see updates with a few gear changes!

I’ve got a clutch setup that hits 65+ before I hit the spray, that thing geared right should easily pass 50 plus

When we were kids our go cart has a 78 tooth sprocket on the bottom and 14 tooth on duel clutch system and a 6 hp snow blower engine & were able to hit 45 to 50 mph. We used the mail truck as our guide as the driver wanted to see how fast we could make it go side by side with his truck 50 was the fastest. Lol. We also had big tires on it as well.

@@janilindroos3688 Diesel doesn't care how big or small the intake is for higher than atmospheric pressures in small cylinder configurations. It runs on compression ignition. Much more of the exhaust energy is converted into rotational energy in a turbocharger turbine than any gasoline engine will ever care to do. You only have to size the turbine housing and wheel properly for the amount of fuel heat you're going to be pumping into the cylinder.

In my place. Single cylinder N.A 700-1100cc generator. Mods with turbo ex diesel truck and reduce fuel consumption arround 30%. And feel lots of power arround 1500-2200rpm.

It seems like the governor in the variable pulleys, isn't really matched to peak engine torque. The engine seems to be operating too low to allow the turbo to reach full boost. Still cool though. Here's an idea; tune this setup to max efficiency, then add a manual clutch, or a one-way bearing on the axle drive chain, then add the jet engine. This way, you can have the best of both!😉

Diesels are super reliable, especially old style mechanically pumped ones like this one, very unlike the regular gas powered garden equipment you have to fight EVERY season. A couple of years ago i got an old diesel generator that had been sitting for 6 years, without being started, and even though the diesel in the tank smelled really bad, nothing like diesel, it started right up at the second pull. That is just something you only see with diesels. This engine was a Yanmar L40AE - a tiny diesel.

Agreed with fueling, I feel like with that added air, he can get some decent boost with some extra fuel, I don’t think he’s pumping enough fuel in to keep up with the pressure that turbo could produce

You can adjust the spring tension on the TC so it goes onto a higher gear faster or slower. There’s 3 different holes in it from the factory and you can add more holes for testing. Less tension on the drum let’s it go into a higher gear faster and more tension makes it stay in the lower gear longer.

Love the video and the channel. My inner internet nerd won't let me leave without saying that the CVT isn't really a torque converter, as it won't allow the engine to produce static force (as a real one would).

Haha.. thanks, maybe so but it is listed as a torque converter or a CVT torque converter everywhere... So to eliminate confusion I just left it as it's listed. I'm more focused on having fun than being proper to be honest
