Looks great guys! One caution: The 16ga extension cord you used is rated up to 13 amps or 1430 watts. Most space heaters can run up to 1800 watts so if you try to plug it in, you will overload and overheat the wires. What you can do is buy a 12ga cord and plug that in separately in your campground outlet.
@josephmarino30458 місяців тому
14 gauge extension cord would have been a much better choice. You can use a separate 14-gauge just for the heater or like somebody else said a 12 gauge. I know $$$

@@STho205it is insulated though! I wonder if an rv extension cord would work better. ?
@STho2057 місяців тому
@@michelleparks4582 it's not insulated. It is wrapped in Tyvek waterproof plastic, but NO INSULATION. Drywall right and pallet clabbords over 2x2 balloon framing and a steel roof over open beams. It is more insulated than a tent just due to bulk. If they hung foam board instead of drywall...or they stuck foam board in the voids...or they sprayed expanding foam in ...then some insulation. The bus windows are single pane, but safety glass, frames are aluminum...so it is pretty R zero. It is fine for what it is. Most of their builds use drywall qith mud joints and marble tile flooring...yet we never see it a year later after they've bumped over gravel campground roads or boondocked. I'd like to see how those two things really hold up. I wouldn't put either in the rigs...but if they work long term I'd keep an open mind.

Awesome! An improvement to your build would be an extension to fill out the space above the cab. That way you end up with way more space and make it more aerodynamic as well.

Fantastic build! Impressive to bring it in at that price point. I do have one suggestion. Rather than use drywall, use 4x8 plastic panels from the big box store. It's about the same price, it'll save a LOT of weight, and there's no chance of cracking. I'd still use liquid nails, though.

Your countertop has me concerned, because if it is pressure-treated, fencing, it could have arsenic in it. Or you might check to see what other chemicals could have been used. I like to watch videos similar to this occasionally to see creative thinking, and problem-solving. Best wishes.

@lili83678 місяців тому
I would have made the "camper" part base as you did, but then I would add the couch width on to the outside of the base 100% (instead of narrowing the interior room.) A vehicle can be up to 8 feet wide without a special permit. This would increase the size of the overall space, as well as add more room to maneuver the pickup when backing up to load the camper.
@ChibiChula8 місяців тому
They probably wanted to keep it within the frame of the truck to not block off the side view mirrors since, inevitably, your rear view mirror will be blocked by it. Technically, you could install cameras in the truck to negate the issue but that's a rather large expense for a temporary camper. If you were planning to stay in it longer than a few days though, or even live in it as some have suggested as a solution to homelessness, I'd definitely go with your suggestion and take on the extra expense for the cameras to be safe. Bluetooth cameras mounted on each side of the camper itself could also work as security cameras with the help of an extra screen or tablet so extra bonus points if you invest a bit more. 😀👍 They also didn't mention a source of water drainage from the sink. Or how they plan to have water or power if not on a campground. I mean, you'd need some kind of powerful source of electricity to run that air conditioner off grid (especially with that dark roof) and both a clean and grey water tank, plus some kind of toilet solution for if the weather is bad and you can't just go outside. 😒 Plus, where are you going to put your stuff? 🤔 Yes, you can keep some things in the truck but you're going to want a designated spot for at least a bag of clothes each indoors. Technically, you could have the bags on the floor at night and in the top bunk during the day but that might get irritating moving that every day for long periods of time. 😌 The main problem I, personally, have with the build is lack of privacy. Curtains or blinds on the windows and door, please. Unless you're an exhibitionist, you don't want people staring at you while you change, lol. 😅
@user-lo6gq6dk4s4 місяці тому

Love how your ceiling turned out too with the stain
@InfernosReaper6 місяців тому
Honestly, depending on the gauge and the distance, it's probably fine. Most AC units aren't pulling more than 800w, while 500w and 750w heaters are a thing. Almost all cords can handle at least 1000w. As long as the use a gas camp stove instead of electric, I don't see that thing going beyond that 1000w limit.

You guys were raised VERY well. You learned a skill I wish I had. I sure hate that kids don't get this kind of training in school or at home anymore. I'm hoping to get a truck but I really don't like gas hogs or want to end up with a dud. That engine has to last. My goal would be to add a camper on the back😂😂. I'd love one like yours (for only a $1,000.00).

Amazing build! My only concern I haven't seen anyone else point out tho is the black supports. Especially at night, those 2x4s sticking out could prove hazardous. People in camp running into them or accidentally hitting one into something while driving just because you forget they're there.

some of those items arent available in some places (for those prices) but, all things aside, the ONLY things Id have adjusted would have been (and this effects price) (1) shelf above sink area. (and some sort of plank to help make sure the person sleeping doent roll off too easily. (2) the area above the AC unit is above the top of the truck, so id have made a bit more space there for storage. There doesnt seem to be any real way to make indoor shower spot, w/o making it too much larger, which is unfortunate for colder areas of the US, but its something id try to come up with a solution over time if given the opportunity. but amazing job!
