Unforgotten - Metal Detecting a 1700’s Farm with an American Revolutionary War Soldier Buried Nearby

Quarter Hoarder

2 роки тому

This week we get access to metal detect a colonial era farm, but what makes this farm extra special is that an old family burial plot sits smack dab in the middle of the field! We were told by the farmer that the grave markers go back to the 1700's and that a fallen Revolutionary War soldier is buried there. Centuries ago this soldier's family owned the land and had a house somewhere in the immediate area but were weren't sure of its exact location. So we venture out to visit his final resting place and also to try and locate the original homestead. Now we are of the mindset that detecting within the hallowed walls of a grave site is disrespectful, but we will search the surrounding fields in hopes to find some small personal effect from his life. Tall task indeed, but we're going in hopeful and ready for the adventure.

That King George II coin. Made over here in England right back in the 1750's went through many British hands, travelled 3000 miles across the Atlantic to British America, went through many American hands, fell into the earth where it slept and WAITED for these lads to find it in 2021.Amazing.

Glad to see people are still detecting. I retired from it back about 2009. I started in 1967. Coins and gold rings were all the rage in my day and we found them big-time. But today the "thing" is dug relics, toys, the nastier condition...the better. We now have the giant "restoration" movement. One can find many videos online. I could kick myself for all the baskets full of rusty goodies I threw away in years past. Back then, those bent-up and horribly rusty trucks were considered worthless. Not today!

The gravestone of the Revolutionary War soldier written in German was amazing! When I was about 11 or 12 I found a very old tombstone that was cracked in half and very weathered that was written in German and from the late 1700's. I believe it said that the German couple buried there were royalty of some kind, because I saw the word "Herzog" before their names which translates to duke and their surname was prefixed with "Von". I went back years later when I was a teenager and had a year of German under my belt, but I could not find the tombstone anywhere! I was so disappointed and it still bothers me to this very day that the German couple buried there are now lost to history. I've tried researching the little cemetery in the local small town library but could find absolutely ZERO information.

One of the things I really like the most about you Mr. Quarter Hoarder is your enthusiasm and the way you always give the guys that are with you nice compliments and you never make them feel less knowledgeable than yourself. And one more final thing and this one is very important to me…..You and your friends are very respectful of all properties whether you’re out in the middle of an abandoned field or digging in someone’s yard who has given you permission to see what treasures you might uncover. And it’s so nice not to be concerned if my grandkids come into the room when your show is on. You never curse or take our Lords name in vain. That means so much to me that they can watch decent fun loving kind men on UKposts and really enjoy themselves at 12-15 years old. I’ve had to stop watching many UKposts programs because of the disgusting language and the pathetic girlfriends and wives that hang around the cameras half dressed with their boobs and butts hanging out. They have no shame and no sense of right and wrong. So there now you’ve heard my biggest UKposts gripes. Again thank you for your goodness and may God bless you and yours. Merry Christmas.🎄✝️♥️

Whenever I dig at parks or on folks lawns (with permission of course), I always bring a 3' sq. piece of canvas to put the dirt on to keep things neat after the refill. I've found some interesting things over the years. The best was at Will Rogers state beach, in LA, Found a HUGE man's 18K "nugget" ring that's 1.35 oz! (No name or other info in or on it to try to track down the owner). A few weeks later I was there and saw these women in a panic near the waters edge. I inquired if everything was OK and one of them said her sister had come for a visit from Saudi Arabia and had lost her engagement ring in the sand. She asked if I could help and I found it in about 5 min. with my trusty old Compass X-100. They offered to give me a LARGE reward for finding it, but I just said have a nice day ladies and wished them well. (That solitaire had to be 4 or 5 carets, must have cost a fortune.)

Hello Guys, Just discovered your videos about 2 days ago, & have been nearly "binge-watching" 'em ever since!!! I am ENJOYING THE TAR out of them, & I can hardly get over the AWESOME finds that y'all have been blessed with!!! I can seriously say, that you guys have had greater finds, than any of the other "Metal Detector Hunters" that I've watched so far, here on UKposts!!! I've been VERY inspired to wanna buy myself a Metal Detector/Pinpointer Kit, and try to do some "hunting" myself, around my area here, in Abilene, TX. I know I would enjoy it, whether I got the greatest finds or not!! Just the anticipation of getting a few good finds, would satisfy me!!! 😊 However; I've not been able to work in quite awhile, due to problems with Arthritis, in my knees and neck, and have not yet been able to get disability, do my GF's disability income is all we have to live on, though we do make it every month, with just a little bit to spare. Anyway, if we get another Stimulus, and I get the full amount, I just may buy some gear, as long as I feel that I can afford to do so! Keep up the great hunts, & I will continue to watch out for ALL forthcoming videos!! Best Wishes, & God Bless Y'all! Ron H. Abilene, TX.

Some awesome history! So far in the Kanawha area of w.v. we havent found anything into the 1700s yet, but weve found some mid 1800s items! That largie is cool! Very rare! Good finds buddy! Keep on digging!
