Updated my old Core, works amazing with Zwift Play. Zwift Play goes from strength to strength. So good for hills and more graduated sprinting. The play controllers give a definite advantage cutting the racing line, giving you a bike length back when you are struggling to keep the wheel 👍

Shane, I have a kick v6. just purchased the swift cog with remote. I have a road bike with Sram 11-28 Cassette and a gravel bike with Sram XPLR 10-44T. At what position do I need to leave the rear derailleur to line up properly with the zwift cog? 13? 15?

@@gplamaI noticed Zwift seems to auto calibrate in the first few minutes of riding? This seemed to happen even when I was soft pedalling in a low gear in the pre ride menus so I actually had to use significantly lower virtual gearing or alternatively run the cassette in a bigger cog when riding proper (if that makes sense 🤔).

@@kiverrussell8369 I believe the virtual gear ratios are 'calibrated' within the first few seconds of riding at 60rpm or higher. It'll assume a 14T on the rear and with the flywheel speed it'll calculate what front chainring you have and adjust the 1-24 gears based on that.

I believe that after shifting to the small or center ring up front you then need to shift to the cog in back that gives a chainline that's most parallel to the frame, for minimal strain on the chain and drivetrain noise. Zwift then auto-calibrates virtual shifting after a few seconds of pedaling. It's supposed to work in any gear combo but this would be the quietest, most efficient and easiest on your drivetrain (you might have to trim a little bit). It doesn't have to be the 14 from what I understand. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

@@gplama Great to know this, it now makes sense. Definitely it didn't auto adjust depending on my real gears. I started on the small ring, but when I changed to the big ring after some minutes, I was stuck on using gear 10-11 -12 to cruise along at 250W or so in yesterday TTT. Looked quite short, but it now makes sense.

Sure can. Within Zwift settings just switch it off and everything remains the same as before. You'll still have the option to use Race Mode over BLE if it's enabled on the trainer.

It wasn't immediately obvious to me but the Plays use low profile, black buttons just outside of those used to turn/brake. I had to rewatch one of Shane's old videos where he briefly shows it.

Have they updated the Core's firmware to enable 10hz race mode? The watts on mine fluctuates wildly despite my maintaining a relatively steady power output level when using Zwift. Also, why do some of the numbers on the Zwift PC app differ from those on the companion app, like the distance? There always seems to be a 10 second or so lag on the PC app.

Unlikely to see 10hz race mode on the Core. Try enable 3s power smoothing within the Zwift settings. A 10 second power lag isn’t normal.

@@kovie9162 I don't know at a technical level. The Core is 6-7 years old..... maybe it's a tech limit. It could also be to differentiate the higher spec model Kickrs too.

Seems like they could add a 5hz version and call it race light. Half the transmission of race mode so should be relatively easy change and easier to do if the chip set can't support the full 10hz.

I have a KICKR v5, but I don't have Zwift. Can the Zwift Play and/or the Swift Click accessories enable virtual shifting during an offline workout (without running Zwift), during which the user shifts between virtual gears manually? The answer seems self-evident, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask, on the unlikely chance that it's possible.

With this update can i use the ZWIFT cog on my kickr V6 instead of my 12 speed MTB cassette ? Ive just checked online and you can only buy the Zwift cog+ Click has a bundle . So might as well install both if possible ? thanks :)

Shane. It seems that you need Zwift play controllers and not click to control for KickR6 with virtual shifting. Just bought click and hub upgrade and swapped the freehub as per an earlier video you did. The click pairs with Zwift no problem but I don’t get any gear indication on screen. Just checked Wahoo support and it states Zwift play controllers only. Hope this will be fixed at some stage.

Yes KickR trainer, HRM and now Click are all paired with Bluetooth. KickR is on latest firmware and Zwift on latest version.

Hmm. Just connected to iPhone not windows pc as usual. Now on the phone virtual shifting is working. Went back to Zwift on pc and not working. So do I need to not use WiFi connect on KickR?

Either. Virtual is fine as long as the controllers or click are in the right place on the bars. It makes swapping bikes a LOT easier here as I have both a 11spd QR and 12spd TA bike I use a lot for testing.

That's what appeals to me too. Today I have a Core and a v5 side-by-side as my wife's TCR runs 11spd Shimano and I have 12spd Sram. Getting us back onto a single trainer would be a win... but the big issue then would be "will I give up my InsideRide for her?" Maybe side-by-side isn't that bad after all. ;-)

It's interesting how the swift hub is 14 teeth. I find the road feel of my wahoo v4 gets better the higher the gear. less choppy for the same power and rpm.

*The Cog has a 14T sprocket, yep. Flywheel speed does affect the ride feel, so some people may prefer the 13 or 12. That'll shift the virtual gear ratios a little (they're based on using a 14T on the back)

I have the Kickr 6 and never done the factory spin down. Power readings are always within 1% accuracy with my Assioma Duo’s. I updated the Kickr 6 firmware update and power accuracy was 3% off using the virtual shifting. You mentioned you did a manual calibration prior your test. Is it okay to do manual spin down on the Kicker 6? I thought is automatically calibrates when riding for a few minutes.

Hi did You contact with wahoo support about power accuracy after firmware update? I have the same problem and after using virtual shifting my power specialy in sprint is 5-7% up on wahoo then on the assioma duo power.

Yes I did. I sent them a 9min ERG test and said everything is normal. I’m still getting 3-4% power differences with my Assioma Duo’s. Always measured within 1% consistently before this firmware update. I also tested without virtual shifting and power accuracy is still off. Waiting from Wahoo support what to do next. In the meantime I using a Kickr Core.

Another question occurred just now. After reading some Wahoo FAQs, apparently if you enable virtual shifting, once you start riding and the trainer takes a few seconds to calibrate virtual shifting based on your choice of ring and cog, if you shift to a different ring/cog combo, the trainer won't recalibrate automatically, and you have to unplug and reconnect the trainer for that to happen. If so, then what happens if for some reason you intentionally decide to physically change gears? Will the numbers be off and whichever virtual gear you're in be offset by a certain percentage based on the new gear ratio that you're using, and would this cause any other problems? I don't see why you'd want to do this unless you're not happy with some of the virtual gears and want one in-between some of them.

Just takes time to patch it in into the existing firmware. You don't want to mess that up and careful software development takes time. So they did the Core first, because Zwift. Then they moved on to their flagship model, because you don't want it trailing behind your budget model. Now they will just work their way down the older models I assume.

Found an issue (maybe?): paired all sensors, did a test ride on volcano circuit warming up for a Zwift games race. Finished the warm up, saved the ride and then Zwift kicks you out to the Welcome screen (where your name is), then you go to the pairing screen. All seemed good at this point. However, when I went into the race got a message that braking was disabled for the race (makes sense), the directional pads were working, the buttons were working BUT NOT the virtual shifting. Anyone else had this issue? it is very similar to what happens with the apple watch. If you do an activity but then go back to the welcome screen it stops working. Thanks in advance!

Would like them to also uprate the Hz mode on the Kickr 4/5 if at all possible. Something like 4Hz would still be a semi-racemode and better that what's there atm. Does the Zwift Play connect via the Wahoo Kickr and so still use the same Bluetooth channel? Just asking for ATV users.

Wahoo needs to make their own shifter! Any after market/3rd party options, or even an app to control shifting? I can’t see Zwift ever shipping to Australia or the other countries that have been ignored. Frustrating!

Aren't there US-based companies that you can have orders shipped to that would then forward them to you? Have you tried the UPS store or Mail Boxes, Etc.? Any branch would probably be able to do this for you, so long as it's legal and you cover the forwarding and customs fees.

So they won't support the work I do on this channel but they'll run ads via Google over my content. That's pretty shitty. More on this... Garmin are fast losing traction in the cycling industry. No longer are they the only company with a radar device. Wahoo and Hammerhead have made good progress with their bike computer offerings. The acquisition of Tacx for indoor trainers/bikes really hasn't moved the needle for them in any positive way.... and now Favero just knocked the XC200 down with the PRO MX SPD power pedal. Garmin are fast becoming a 'premium only' brand in cycling, and in a lot of cases the products don't meet 'premium' expectations.

They should have configured it to run on the 11T cog.... never use the damn thing IRL unless I put the 30/46 chainset on lol.... that way you could run your own cassette without destroying one gear you need outside

I like the simplicity of this- I could "save" the drivetrain on my dedicated bike- Sensah Team Pro shifters, Tiagra cranks, 105 rear mech etc by buying a DMR single speed kit and tensioner, plus the 14T cog (kit comes with 16T, would it matter if I used that?) that's £30...I have an old set of 165mm square taper cranks from a MTB and a new 36T 104BCD chainring I could put on with whatever 68mm BB I have- chain line won't matter too much at the front but try and get close to the q factor of the existing bike setup- I can adjust the rear to match for smooth running...put on some old 7 speed Tourney brifters to attach the play controllers to and £130 all in, job done, super quiet and smooth.... The BIG question I need to ask myself is, do I want to be tethered to Zwift and Zwift alone? What about a Half Monty test on SYSTM? I occasionally use IndieVelo to give myself a reality check from the very "flattering" Zwift, and I haven't used MyWhoosh despite my PC having the hardware to run it.... It feels a bit like they are ensnaring you with this lol

I just ordered the Play controllers to allow me to use virtual shifting but I also want the option to be able to use other platforms, so I'll probably use my existing drivetrain components instead of swapping out for trainer-specific rings and cogs. It'll wear them down faster but that's going to happen on any platform and on outdoor rides, and with a straight driveline it'll probably decrease wear on the front ring and chain and only wear out one cog that's replaceable. In fact I might replace that cog with one from an old cassette that still has some good cogs, for indoor rides.

I don’t understand why you did a power meter comparison for the virtual shifting. The virtual shifting affects the front end, the applied resistance, it doesn’t have anything to do with the power reading on the back end. Those two things are completely detached from each other.

Virtual shifting means the cadence/flywheel speed are in locked ratio. Flywheel speed does impact trainer performance…. and power accuracy. So I put that to the test. It’s what I do. It’s also something nobody else has done, anywhere, with this update. I hope people appreciate that.

Let's hope they offer Virtual Shifting for the Snap. Although it's Wahoo's budget trainer, when I bought it the price wasn't that much different to what you can now pick up a Core for.... 😭

Quite disappointed this is not universally available for all trainers. Let's not pretend it couldn't be done software (Zwfit) side using existing protocols, without any new trainer firmware required ;)

I agree, it would be the trainer manufacturers job to come up with a standard. Instead, wahoo now prefers building a closed platform with Zwift 😕

@@michwozcan it be done completely in Software? i think zwifts Implementation reads the flywheel speed and cadence during the first few seconds of the ride to calculate the current gearing. flywheel Speed is not exposed to the Software. If "accurate Resistance" doesnt matter or the user manually enters it i dont see an issue
