I paid for the Vision Pro and I've been using it for a month across four countries. There are some clear flaws, but it's still bleeding edge tech that offers a glimpse at the future of spatial computing, and for me, it's worth every penny.

Great review man!!! Touched on all the aspects I was looking to know more about. It is definitely expensive but I fully agree with you that talking about it being overpriced when there's nothing similar to compare it with at the moment is going a bit too far; given the "apple tax" on their products I have no doubt we'll believe this was overpriced a few years from now 😂, but it's just too early to say that for sure. Again, was a really insightful review and I enjoyed it.

@jTiKey Місяць тому
Maybe try the quest 3 that is 7 times cheaper. It's the "same" software and hardware. The difference is that the q3 has more features, better lenses. The AVP only has better resolution and a better processor, that's it. What other headsets did you use?

Dude you evidently have not used the VP for any length of time. I own a lot of VR headsets, including the Quest 3. You’re either being wilfully ignorant or obtuse to come out with such an asinine comment. Metas software/UI is dated and janky. The pass through is awful, the screens terrible, the hand tracking subpar. Comparing it to the VP is like suggesting a Mitsubishi is the ‘same’ as a Tesla as they both go from point A to B. It’s just silly.

@MrOrtmeier

Ben I have to disagree with you on the point about income, saying this isn't expensive. The average annual income worldwide is roughly $7000 if we are being generous. That's $583 per month. Again, that's a generous estimate. In some countries the annual income is $380 - ANNUAL.... So in a world where the majority of earth's population are earning $7000 a year, $3500 represents 6 months income. That is CRAZY EXPENSIVE. You have to take into account the global average because if you are selling a product the assumption is that you ideally want everyone to buy it. Hence when determining pricing you need to look at the worldwide situation. Otherwise you should specifically label your product as "luxury item" to let everyone know this is only aimed at the rich. Hence it is legitimate for people to criticise it as expensive,even if some people you know can afford it. But take it closer to home - in the US homelessness is rampant, the average family is struggling to feed their families, many are on the poverty line despite both parents working. Even in the US this is considered expensive for most people. I live in the EU and this is very expensive. It's about 3-4 months wages (!) in my country. That's expensive no matter which way you slice it.
@webinatic216
@webinatic216 Місяць тому
8 billion people in this world and apple vision pro is for the 10% of the 10%. That's like 8 million people that can afford this but just a few % is even going to consider this.
@bensgadgetreviews
@bensgadgetreviews Місяць тому
So by that logic, why don't people call buying a camera expensive? Or buying a car expensive? Why is it just mobile tech that gets people all frugal? You don't have to tell me US homelessness is rampant I am fully aware America is a declining society lol. I've always looked at things from a global perspective and I know damn well this gonna sell like hot cakes in china and Singapore and Korea when officially sold there
@MrOrtmeier
@MrOrtmeier Місяць тому
@@bensgadgetreviews It depends where you live. Where I live cars are damn expensive. So are cameras. Most people get something like a Galaxy A34 and keep it for 4 years ... And this is Europe. Even in Germany, Europe's wealthiest country, the A54 was the top selling phone. $3500 is a rich man's toy ..
@James-lw3gi
@James-lw3gi Місяць тому
Annual income worldwide? What are you bringing that into it? That includes countries that aren't too developed. The average annual income in the US is what, around $80,000? Yes, the VP is expensive, but the way you framed it seems crazy to me. Unless I'm missing something.
@MrOrtmeier
@MrOrtmeier Місяць тому
@@James-lw3gi Whenever you are talking about selling a product you always must take into account the global average income because in theory you want to sell to as many people as possible. If Apple was selling this in the US only, then you'd only look at US average income, but the idea is to take this global, in which case you must think global income. There's a reason why the top selling Android phone worldwide is the Samsung Galaxy A14 - Samsung understand the average global income and priced their phone to be affordable to everyone, as much as possible. Never look down on the poor. This is a very bad sin in God's eyes. Always take into account the lowest common denominator. Which is why I love Linux and Android. It's free and accessible to everyone.

Nice review! It's pretty cool for 3D movies and a good alternative to home theater in general. But for my expected usage time, and especially the few times I watch movies alone, it's far too expensive and too heavy. If I were to use the device for 5 hours a day, things would look different. But I don't see that at the moment.

i tried it at the apple store...and I do use meta quest 3 at home a lot. I do think vision pro is overpriced. what it can do is limited and not essential so it doesn't worth the price at all for me. I can use this $3500 for other things... but of course, if people have tons of money, nothing wrong to purchase this for fun.

I wish at least Quest 2/3 the ui isn't limited and you can open more windows than limited to 3 screen stuck together with limited space and you have to scan every time you go to other room. Apple Visuon Pro will end up having a lot more apps and be the first vr device that passed the alpha stage which Meta Quest is still stuck in. I have a Quest 2 and I wish there is more apps that is not another downgrade to the flatscreen games port

You are talking sense about the weight and cost reduce by design! About the overpriced thing, I don't know why people are so sensitive about it. First, with Apple, price is a feature, I thought people already knew that and second, yes as of now there is no comparison for it. There are other similar items but with this display quality (Sony) and see thru option, OS, etc, no comparison. Disclosure,I am absolutely not an Apple fan, quite the opposite. BTW, there are some TVs cost much more than this and no matter how amazing the resolution or whatever is on them, they are just TVs. For some people, it is worth to buy a 5k TV instead of a 500 USD TV. Are those overpriced?

Obviously incomes range from $0 to a gazillion dollars but $3,500 is a lot of money in virtually every country for the average person. So we're already talking about a luxury product that's not a practical enterprise solution. I mean maybe the word absurd is a little judgmental, but I don't think it's unfair to say that the price is shockingly high. There's no one to one comparison, but there's certainly products that can be compared to it.

@@michaelcorcoran8768 I live in the US and Apple users defend Apple, but Android users love to hate any and everything Apple does; when Android copied the core design language of iOS. Every time Apple makes a major move Android copies it, even the bad stuff. I use both platforms. My point is everyone criticizes Apple but they go buy Android products that copy iOS. The Galaxy s24 copied the flat screen, titanium build, apple’s version of the always on display, Memoji, I mean I could go on forever. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not upset at them for copying, but primary Android users shouldn’t be hypocritical.

I been playing Quest 2 for 2 straight years almost every day with still lack of millions of apps. It is way better the more you play with it since you will learn more about its potential. The word "the novelty wear out quickly" are from people who had never tried vr in their life and stuck from the past of using other gimmick devices that got nothing to do with vr headsets. Unlike another gimmick devices out there, VR can function better and it works and already make them all obsolete.

It's a stand alone display that rivals top oleds panels with good audio, a high end processing unit and it can run without being plugged in. It's expensive maybe, but to get a good oled screen, an M2 mac and a sound system, you wouldn't be far from that price. And you would only be able to experience it in your living room, not take it around with you. I'm not Apple fan (i only own the airpods pro) but you have to admit that the AVP is impressive. The real question is how useful it could be to you. If it's not, it could be 300$ you wouldn't buy it anyway.
