Works sooo much better than the ClimbPro feature on Garmin (in hilly areas). ClimbPro often stringed a lot of small hills together suddenly showing a 15km climb. Wahoo detects them all perfectly. Love it!

I‘m quite excited about this feature since it was kinda the only feature lagging behind Garmin in my opinion. Took it for a test ride right away on Tuesday in gorgeous Berchtesgaden (Bavaria/Germany, 100km 2000m climb) and loving it! I agree that customizing would be great and guess it‘s not too far around the corner, same goes for Shane‘s comment about the „upcoming“ and „finished“ climbs. Overall very pleased with the automatic page switch and once again I find myself being a Wahoo-Fanboy haha.. With that said, thanks for everything Shane, love the channel!

Like the option to automatically change to climb page. Similarly, wish Wahoo would add an option to automatically switch to the map page during an upcoming turn.

Good news: The latest firmware update lets you customize the fields you see during a climb. Sadly, the largest field at the top is required to be "climb time" (i.e. how much time has elapsed on the climb). I'd rather change that large field at the top to something more useful like power or heart rate, but this is still a huge leap in terms of usefulness.

Great Video Shane. Agree about having those features during free rides and not only on pre-selected route. I often modify my routes when i'm already started my session but i usually have the same 4/5 climbs that i use for training in different combinations. Maybe they could allow users to selected some 'favorite climbs' that could be always avaiable, even in free ride.

Agreed on the changes there that need to be made. In addition, it would be great to be able to select the segments in the list for a preview of what it's decided to call a climb.

That's pretty sweet, even to have to the map and climb into in one screen would be a winner for me without the other bells and whistles

Great, clear video and I like the feature. I do think Wahoo need to make the definiton of a climb customisable though. To me, whilst 500m is a reasonable lower limit for length of climb to qualify, 3% is way too low. I rode a route a couple of days ago which was only about 75km and the Roam identified 14 climbs. It wasn't wrong, but I'd consider that route to have four climbs, five at most; the rest are just undulations to me. Obviously,what constitutes a climb is subjective, which is why it needs to be customisable.

Good update, I'm actualy waiting a new roam from the SAV, a strange bubble was appeared in the middle of the screen of mine :/ With this, they are not far from the live strava segments. A good addition for next updates could be a possibility to compare our times in the segments (best times vs time of the day when we are climbing).

Oh, so that's what happened the other day. 😀 I was wondering why my Bolt suddenly screamed CLIMB! at me. Very nice feature. Especially since strava segments stop working immediately once you pass under a tree.

I’m a big fan of the auto page switch on the climb, it’s one less thing to do as you settle in. 3s avg watts and HR is good enough for now, but obviously customising the remaining fields would be ideal - I’m sure that’s not too far off. Any idea on how “time to summit” is calculated (assuming it’s distance left vs. current speed)? Overall it’s simple, easy, usable! Wahoooo 🤙

Seeing this I start to realise that I miss my old Element. I had some valid reasons to change into the Garmin Ecosystem, but compared to the Wahoo the Garmin is just overly complex, and the color screen of my Edge 830 is just a lot more cluttered than the clean map display of the Wahoo, which was excellent to read. These new features are all the more reason to choose the Wahoo over the Garmin.

Would love to have Climbpro working on a free ride, do you think Garmin will have it for existing Edge units?

I'm doing long distance Bikepacking events and want to maximise battery life on my head unit (elemnt Bolt V2). This looks great and exactly what I feel has been missing on my Elemnt Bolt 2. I've been prompted with an update for the last week or so, which I assume is for this. However whenever I click 'update' nothing happens. Will definitely try to figure out how to sort this update before heading out this morning.

What happens when you have a climb that is also a live segment, which one will it show as a default?

Tested it yesterday on a quite flat round. It called every bump a climb and started half a km before the gradient started. There should be a sensitivity slider or something.

Love my OG Wahoo Bolt, probably won’t upgrade until it dies or if they come out with solar…

Can we display the recorded climb data ? When the ride is finished, all disappear and no climb data is downloaded on Element Roam app.

Does anyone know how the "Estimated Time" field works? If I have a power meter, is it smart about somehow interpolating my average power throughout the rest of the climb? IIRC, for the Strava Live Segments feature, it does a kind of dumb interpolation of using average speed, which is not at all accurate on a segment which has widely varying gradients throughout.

which is the best website to download local routes? can't existing strava segments be used as routes ?

very cool feature. do you know what the minimum requirements are for a climb to be detected. So min length, elevation gain, gradient ect?

Any idea how does on longer climbs with saddles or flat sections in the middle? Does it break them into multiple climbs?

I’d love a feature that would auto start and end a lap when starting and finishing a climb. The ability to edit the data fields must surely be coming at some point?!

Is there a way to change End time to Time left? End time is kinda fiddly, because there's no clock on the climb page, plus you have to mentally calculate how long you have to go. It would be much better if it simply said 5 minutes left.

What happens if there is a strava segment on this climb? will it show up on this climb page or do you have to switch between pages? And maybe a stupid question on strava segments in general: do you have to be a paying strava member for strava segments to work on whatever headunit? Im looking for good reasons not to buy the expensive Garmin Edge 1040, even tho it would fit to my Fenix Watch, so guys help me out here ^^

Great video.. So I was looking at climb pro for my Garmin, only to find that my very good Edge 1000 is not suitable (😕). So spent some time yesterday looking for a solution.. and was looking at Wahoo. So this video was a great help. Interesting that this does not happen on a free ride … this may put me off… now will be checking if climb pro works on free ride on the Garmin.. ( unless you know ?).. keep up the great work..👏

So can I use the summit thing without a route too???

I was not prompted to update but the features popped up on this morning's planned ride. I do wish Wahoo would fully test before issuing; I have no interest in being an unpaid beta tester. The CLIMB banner appeared as I approached each of the nine selected segments. When I reached the change of grade... the Roam screen went blank. The Varia was operating normally down the left hand side but zilch on the rest. When the grade levelled off the Summit notice appeared for a few seconds and then switched back to the previous route view. I could switch to the standard elevation page that during the outages using the left hand button. Also, the threshold of what defines a 'climb' seems to be excessively low. On the final Kms there were two separate short rises 2-300m of 3-6% that Wahoo thinks is one climb. Actually there is a 2-3m drop over say 20m after the first hill and then 200m+ of what the realtime Wahoo said ranged 0 - 1.5% before reaching the second. Not exactly the Alpe d'Huez! I guess it was using dodgy average GPS levels that missed the detail but it is a symptom of setting the bar so low.

I’m having issues with my Roam. When I sync it to the app, the summary under history shows the stats correctly but when I select the workout to see more info it shows as a 1 second workout. It also syncs as a 1 second workout to strava and TrainingPeaks. I’ve tried everything. Updated firmware, repairing, etc and nothing has helped. I’m on iPhone IOS 16. Any chance you know what’s going on?

This Summit feature is not showing on my Bolt V2 (in France). Do you need a subscription? All firmware up to date. I really want this, just what I need!

I don’t seem to have the ability to zoom out and view the 3s power and hr on my original roam. Checked software after my ride today and it’s up to date. Wonder is it common on the original units? Defeats the purpose of the feature for me if can’t see power and hr to help pace a climb you are not familiar with.

I went out for a ride yesterday with my new Roam and as soon as it starts a climb the screen goes blank. I either have to change the page or wait till the end of the climb. Hopefully they fix soon.

Ahh it could still be adapted to the old element. They can use gray and black for the scales.

It's all OK but I would prefer if I could change the field with power to cadence. Personally, I don't have a meter, and I like to ride with a long cadence.

I just had my first real experience of Summit Segments and it was less than ideal. First, the "climb" on your route may not correspond with a Strava segment (e.g. maybe there's a gradient up to the real start of the segment; Summit Segments will count the entire climby part). Second, I hate how it takes over your hand-edited Climbing page; I want some fields not on the default page, and there's no way to see them when a Summit Segment is active. Third, I disabled it mid-ride, and it left me with a totally broken Climbing page (stuck on the climb I happened to be on when I turned it off via the phone). Then I re-enabled it, but the feature was still broken; it failed to list the remaining climbs on the route, and didn't start any. Seems like they have some serious bugs when the feature is giggled mid-ride.

It looks like it doesn’t give you your current speed on that page. Am I right? That seems like something I’d like to know at any given moment on the climb.

I have the original Bolt and it doesn't get this upgrade. Bummer.

Bike computers still look like calculators from the 90s. Power of a pocketPC, phone frames from 10 years ago, and screens that leave a lot to be desired (at current mobile prices). We are totally stuck in this segment. I wish Apple, Xiaomi, or one of these would come out with a "modern" bike computer

Summit "a feature that's been requested and a long time coming." ??? I seriously hate it and never even thought of anything about summit. It was auto installed without me even knowing what was in the auto update. It just auto comes on and tells me a load of stuff I don't want to know or care about. I went through all the options and it was only today after an auto update (again without telling me what was in it and no way of saying what I do or don't want) I actually got an option to turn that rubbish off. Used the gps loads of times, the summit automatically comes on which I have never used and never will. I was sick of wasting time in changing the screen to get the info I did want and not being able to that info 'cos the summit screen was on.
