This talk explores the transformative impact of future technologies on society, whilst emphasising the enduring value of human ingenuity - the superpowers we all have within us from childhood to help us not just survive, but thrive in the age of AI.
Emma and Charlotte Robertson are the award-winning sisters and founders of online safety and wellbeing organisation Digital Awareness UK. Having spent the last decade conducting research and developing educational programmes that have empowered millions to use technology positively, they will be sharing their insights and experiences to encourage people to reflect on how they will navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by the rapid pace of technological change we are experiencing. Emma and Charlotte Robertson are the award-winning Co-Founders of Digital Awareness UK. As digital rights activists, the sisters can regularly be seen campaigning in the media, in parliament and in schools and organisations around the world to empower young people to survive and thrive online.
Their love for technology coupled with their passion for tackling issues such as hate speech, misinformation and addiction led them to build a team of experts who work with schools and corporations around the world to support families and young people with their online journeys. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

The resources used to generate the energy required for AI may well become an issue. How AI is used is not the only futures concern. How it is powered could be added.

Given new photonic processors about to come out, less of an issue than is presently apparent. But yes, it's an issue. Solar+wind+battery plants for each individual datacentre sounds good to me.

yes put the responsibility on children about this social experiment, what could go wrong, some will suicide, some will shoot other people cause they dont learn empathy, nothing on depression children r having. just embrace tech and dont look at consequences, like all other politics we see... in my opinion we r falling down quickly... 😅

What is the point in rapid technological advances if humans are not evolving
@stephaneboisjoli1320
@stephaneboisjoli1320 9 днів тому
Humans are evolving according to scientists. But I think what you actually mean is adapting. We have EVs now and yet how many have trouble conceiving using one? We have virtual worlds now but how many would put on a headset and use it daily? Some tech changes are easier and some are definitely harder. Try getting someone to use a bidet (there are many varieties) and see how well that goes... And yet it's more advanced tech.

We will merge with the technology and advance. Just wait and see.

There will definitely be some kind of programming, someone has to educate the machine, even AI, and someone has to verify it's working properly (testers). But exactly what those will look like in 20 years is anyone's guess.

We can't blame our kids what they are doing with this tech. It was our generation - the Baby boomers who did give the Smartphone and the Computer and the tablet to our kids and Grandchildren, without any user's manual. This was a risky operation to make huge profit on the expense of the next generation. Every item, every device can be used or abused and misused - like a Bread knife. It is not the item or device it self we can blame, but how we learn the next generation to handle it properly, without cutting them selv or others. When our kids are now in the same position like the kids of immigrants, who speak the language and their parents do not, the kids get a parenting role over their Parents and are a bullying and angry generation, because of lack of respect to the older generation. A documented psychological effect. So there are some very exiting opportunities in AI and we need to catch up, otherwise our kids may pushing us all over the edge, because of little life experience and not seeing consequences, before it is too late. Curiosity is the key here for kids and for adults....!

Kids using genAI to generate fake videos of their school administrators cancelling classes. Awesome! With AI, things are going great, and they're only getting better. The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.

children can type on an ipad before they can write with a pencil. Tbh I think we need to shield children from all this technology. More bad than good from embracing technology. I did not like this ted talk
@jenniferelyse5134
@jenniferelyse5134 12 днів тому
That might not be the deterrent you think it is. Typing is easier because it requires less fine motor control than using a pencil. So can we use this to help children communicate more effectively with each other and those raising them? There are many valuable tools, but yes they should be shielded from the negative side (ie no internet access, no social media, no obsession with taking photos and video).
@stephaneboisjoli1320
@stephaneboisjoli1320 9 днів тому
You want to shield kids from technology they will be using all their lives? You think this will help them? I'm not saying letting them use it without some controls, but shielding them will just make them unready and uneducated.
@stephaneboisjoli1320

We're already short programmers. This kind of behavior will make it worse and reduce the chances of success of those children.

Hijack a Ai robot or whatever to sit at a computer all day and play the stock market . Let it start with your bank account that has only $10 in it. Program it to make a billion dollars in only like 3 days. See what happens. Try not to get busted 😎 either that or get a job
