I'm convinced Tarrare had Prader-Willi syndrome (inability to control insatiable hunger /thin lips and large down turned mouth /light colored hair), hyperthyroidism (constant sweating and inability to gain weight), and trimethylaminuria (liver unable to process certain chemicals so they're excreted in POTENT smelling sweat and urine. SEVERAL of said chemicals are found in meat, especially liver and eggs. Tarrare's favorite.) The unluckiest genetic dice roll ever.

I recently heard of this really rare condition (can’t remember the. name) but u constantly feel hungry no matter how full u are, you’ll literally eat till u throw up then repeat the process. I think he had that along with hyperthyroidism and possibly other conditions to add to it. What’s unusual to me is how big his mouth & throat were.. Swallowing a WHOLE apple?!!? Wtf?!?! That is crazy af!!!

I honestly feel bad for Tarrare. Of course the horrible things he did to the creatures he ate are inexcusable, I hope the baby going missing wasn’t actually his fault. But I can’t even imagine the kind of hell his body was putting him through, making him feel like he’s constantly starving and feeling like he needed to eat that much. Which then caused him to be chased away by others for something he couldn’t fully control

These men most likely had a combination of a nutrient deficiency, hypothalamic dysfunction and Prader-Willi syndrome. Extremely rare, but possible.

Did no one think to see how “processed” the food was, you know.... after it came out the other end? Like was this stuff actually getting digested or was he just shitting it right out?

Also, I highly doubt Tarrare ate the child. When he ate other animals, there was evidence left behind. If he couldn’t consume the fur or bones of a cat, how would he have been able to consume a toddler without leaving evidence behind, or doing it fast enough that the child wouldn’t cry out/someone wouldn’t catch him?

There is a kid in the US with a condition that might have been the same Tarare had. His body is not able to store fat, so his body looks like that of a kid that hasn't eaten in months, but he eats around 10 000 calories a day and still suffers from constant hunger because our bodys judge hunger based on fat storage and how full your stomach is. And if one of those is very low our bodies would usually go under a constant state of extreme hunger.

given the constant sweat and hot skin it seems he just had an incredibly high metabolic rate. Burning calories almost instantly and producing a lot of heat. Hence the hunger for fuel to keep this up.

About the golden fork: Thinking from Tararre's perspective, he probably specifically remembered the golden fork because, as an object made of gold, he likely tried to retrieve it after having eaten it because of its value. Having never found the golden fork, he only assumed it was still inside him. Him remembering it so specifically was probably from a sense of regret.
