I spent most of my Military Service repairing Electron Equipment down to the component level, that being said the first thing I noticed was the fact that the soldering iron tip was dirty, easy fix, heat the iron and then wipe it against some steel wool and then a wet sponge. Second and almost as important as a clean iron tip is the use of flux on the part, in this case, a piece of wire, me;t the solder on the iron tip and then applied to the wire or component. If the tip was really clean the solder would have flowed and covered the entire tip. This video is a waste of time and energy.

Notice in 1st example solder is being applied at the bottom of the copper wire where there is insulation and anyone that knows how to solder knows you don't melt solder on the iron then apply it to the part. in the 2nd example solder is applied at the top (end) of the wire so it flows down through the strands and the iron is used correctly. This isnt patented because its useless and now your lawn mower won't start. flux and a clean tip will out perform this waste of time every day that ends in Y.

It's not patented because it is an inferior soldering iron tip. Use tips that are designed for your iron, they cost a lot less than a spark plug plus man hours to cut a piece of iron conductor from it. I would never risk damaging my expensive iron, or my customers repair by playing silly buggers with the tips, I have around 20 tips of different shapes and sizes, and change them according to the job. Just shoving a piece of metal into your iron won't work, you will never know the heat range, i.e a tip too thick or hot can damage components next to the one you are soldering. Videos like this are dangerous, they teach younger of more inexperienced persons to tamper with equipment, sometimes making them electrically dangerous,

Bad idea, first off the only problem with the original tip is oxidation. Simply clean and tin it with solder and it would work just fine. Next, this hack will shorten the life of the element. This is a ceramic element and is fairly fragile. So wedging somthing on one side of it like that, puts a lot of physical stress on it. (At about 2:51 it sounds like you snapped it.) Even if the tip needs replaced, the ones this uses aren't that expensive anyway.

If you want to avoid this remember: ALWAYS clean the tip of the soldering iron on a wet sponge after powering it off. Soldering tin contains flux, which helps the soldering process, but erodes the treatment on the soldering tip, if its left on the tip for some time. If your tip is damaged just replace it (it will cost around 5-10$), then remember to clean it every time...your tip will last for many many years, promised.

Have you used any sort of flux? Get some ruby paste or ruby fluid, Or you can get what's called StayClean, these are all mild acids, some solder has the acid or flux as it's called inside of the solder, but get some ruby paste and get your iron hot as you can get it, then dip it in the ruby paste , or whichever acid (flux) that you have, any of the ones I mentioned will work. You can also get what's called Sal-Ammoniac , again get your iron red hot, and hold it to the Sal-Ammoniac block. Do that around the entire tip of the soldering iron and the solder will stick to it, which is what you want so you can use the tip of the iron to put the beads of solder right where you want them, the heat of the iron will draw the solder towards it, and the flux will and Sal-Ammoniac will help the solder stick to the iron I'm a metal working, I use huge 1 pound bars of Dutch boy 50/50 solder. I have a huge soldering iron that runs off propane and cost me close to $800 , I do this stuff professionally.. Mostly relining old box gutters with a thin form of steel, well it's galvanized steel that comes in a 50 foot roll. But I also solder sheets of copper at times if I'm flashing a chimney using copper. Sometimes use what's called ResiBond galvanized sheet metal, again that comes in a 50 foot roll, whatever you do tho, don't get that acid on your skin and if you do, wash it off asap, that stuff will burn your skin so wear safety glasses for sure and gloves..!!..

I used to clean the iron when the tin was over heated and very runny actually with a shake to put new one (like samurai warriors did with their katanas. Lol). After finishing the job and before unpluging it I scratched the tip with a cutter.

Eso es como quitar el mango a un destornillador phillips, ponérselo a un clavo y decir que es mejor. Romper un destornillador bueno para hacer uno malo. Menuda memez!!
