It's kinda like every massive tech giant.. starts with engineers making stuff thats great to making profits... Hopefully LTT & Framework never go down that road. When engineers (or generaly people passionate about the product) are in charge, companies can make some truely amazing things.. When they sell to investors (privately or going public), that has a tendency to change things over time.

There's a world of difference between CEO of private companies and CEOs of publicly-traded companies... the publicly-traded company ones are basically just figureheads put in place to do the bidding of Goldman Sachs and to collect gigantic paychecks as a signal to investors that the company is doing well. One of the things I like about AMD is that because they spent so long getting almost bankrupted by those "professional" CEOs that eventually they were willing to actually hand the company over to an actual engineer (Dr. Su) in an act of desperation. Since she is a PhD-bearing engineer and business is one of the simplest topics in the universe in comparison, she just had to spend like a weekend learning about business stuff and then was able to immediately reorient the company to actually center around engineering excellence and boom, took off like a rocket. I imagine by now she's probably having to get into knife-fights with bankers to keep out the parasite MBAs who would want to get in and start slashing and burning for tiny short term gains at the expense of long-term corporate survival (those types of CEOs hop from company to company every 3-4 years, so they're fine with cutting a throat that won't bleed out for 10).

I mean they already technically made it and succeeded, the hard part is actually over for them, the main issue they have is exposure at this point, Linus and other tech tubbers have helped get the Tech community aware of their product, but they need 2 market segments, 1-Mainstream Users/Gamers(which the swappable GPU 16 inch will solve and maybe a bit of marketing) 2- Business/Enterprise, this is where the real money is at, and TBH if businesses aren't jumping on this they should be shot, the money they can save is retarded and they can get that green cert by reusing and then selling old modules off at used prices to recoup some of the bite. I would be happy and fine if they did abandon the first adopters. I know a project like this is super-difficult and complicated, and in the process many things have changed and improved. I am willing to let a company like this off-the-hook because they deserve it. But not the huge established corporations which promise something just to break it shortly after. If anything, I would be happy to see them get a lot of things right and start a "FrameWorks 2.0" platform. And when they are successful ($100 Million valuation) that they can always come back and reward their first adopters with a free laptop or something. Something like that used to be super-common in the 1980s startup scene. But the past 20 Years it's been companies trying to be super competitive in pleasing shareholders.

If you have a compatible bit from elsewhere or if you’re taking a full laptop and desktop-ifying it (not keeping the laptop working) that reduces e-waste. You may not even need it. A lot of people probably have some old USB sound card lying around that came with some headphones or phone or who knows what. I know I’ve accumulated several over the years, and even the ones from like 15 years ago still do the basic job of USB in, 3.5mm out.

Other than some spacing, you can also stack them up to mark a farm.

I love how knowledgeable he is about repairing his product. It's not required but appreciates.

😮 oh my god how did I not know this existed?! how long has a modular laptop (of that extent and not a gimmick) been a thing?!? I have no words. Just love.

I always loved the Framework concept, but adopted a "wait and see" approach. Seeing more of the little details, and actually seeing this upgrade happen for real, I'm honestly really impressed. And that case is sick to boot. Seeing the modules with labels is awesome.

I'm running Debian on a 12th gen Framework. Couldn't be happier. The forums took care of a few odd compatibility issues. Get one!

I bought a 12th gen framework to replace my 10 year old toshiba with a 3rd gen i7 earlier this year. It is actually everything I hoped it would be. No regrets.

Running pop!_OS on an 11th gen Framework, and it's been a wonderful experience! Can't wait to try out AMD and the 16".

Nirav. Your doing a good job with your product. The way your showing care for it as you don't want him to break it is a great example of the amount of work and care you have put into the laptop

Pretty sure if I ever buy a laptop for personal use (I tend to use my work laptop for everything these days), it'll be a framework. The idea of being able to upgrade it in a few years is amazing to me instead of being stuck with the same hardware until it eventually dies or you need to replace the whole thing to get a new CPU.

I will be needing a new laptop sometime in the next year or two, definitely going to go after one of these. Also love that they ant to mount that thing to the back of a monitor. When I go to upgrade my monitor I know what I'm doing w/ my old monitor 🤔 since I'll probably have a framework laptop at that time that'll need an upgrade lol.

The most impressive thing about the CEO, isn't that he knows the hardware and keeps cool, it's that he was able to realise in a tense situation that Linus wouldn't be able to login with his pin. To be able to focus on presenting, listening to Linus, and still give thought to it is super impressive.

This was so much fun - just as all the other Framework videos. You can really tell that everyone involved is absolutely excited and passionate about it.
