I grew up with "worst case scenario" parents and I gotta tell yah; it was lame. I used to make fun of them all the time by exclaiming: "The sky is falling!" Looking back, their methodology created negative thinking which in my experience almost always created negative outcomes.

Managing a farm Vs managing a tech business is slightly different. Farming tends to lead to more resorsfulness as margins are lower and you don't necessarily have vc funding. So the whole tech "I solve for that" is a bit in the clouds in this situation I think.

Military planning incorporates "enemy actions" based on all available intelligence of the enemy's capability, doctrine. etc... Enemy's probable course of action and enemy's most dangerous course of action are planned for. the military also uses PACE for their actions down to the individual level. Primary Course Of Action (COA), Alternate, Contingency, Emergency. when planning for something, considering and having a plan for X contingency eliminates the need to figure out what to do on the fly saving time, mental effort, money, etc. ranking how damaging vs how likely a contingency is allows one to prioritize when contingencies get planned for in what order based on time/expense/etc constraints. find a balance point of how likely is this to occur, and don't get so far down into the weeds you get stuck in analysis paralysis and fail to execute in a timely manner. an 80% solution on time is better than a 100% solution too late. "hope for the best, plan for the worst, and hope is not a course of action"
