We need to teach children how to negotiate emotional contingency plan. That is definitely sustainable , practical and mature way to deal with negative emotions while going through tough times in life.

All the "there is no substitute for mat time" comments are weird. Obviously, you have to train a lot to get good, but there are a ton of ways to try to get the most out of your mat time. No one should be opposed to people exploring ways to try to optimize learning and train efficiently.

Thorp is an absolute legend for several reasons. He talks about racewalking. When I worked at the Olympic Training Center in the late 80's, we had a racewalker come in who was turning miles in about 4:10. It looks funny, but it's probably a great choice for older athletes. Rock on, Ed Thorp!
