This is so fucking good!!! I LOVE Jason’s songs and will put him up against anybody … literally one of my favorite artists. However, when I saw him and the 400 Unit on the banks of the Blackfoot River in Bonner-Missoula, MT, this one brought the house down for me. Chills head-to-toe and time travel back to the late 80’s. Honeysuckle Blue to me is a top 5 Southern Rock song of all time … seriously. Nobody does this better than Jason & the 400 Unit. Sadler taking lead vocals is perfect and you can just feel how much Jason is all in. One of the best recordings on UKposts.

I think this song follows the golden rule, write what you know. He knows and externally conflicts with the reality. There a reason the more your educated the less bigoted, more introspective, and higher level of critical thought. He said that this song won't change the world. It was something he had to get off his mind. I'm white. I Don't have white guilt. My significant other is black and we have a mixed kid. I do not feel guilt about white people. I feel shame In the way people behave and the status quo and maybe that's what he's feeling too.

Sometime between covid and nearly dying in an accident that took 3 years to recover...i fell out of touch with a lot of Isbell music. Im just hearing this and it's like a warm blanket on a cold lonely night.

This was at the beginning of the pandemic. I remember being stoked about the new Isbell record but at the same time starting to wonder if we were living “in the new normal.” Very weird period of history.

What an amazing song! Add it to the pantheon of outstanding lyrics and songs crafted by Mr. Isbell. It's clear this was written about the dissolution of his marriage in part due to his wife not trusting his sobriety

Wow...nail meet hammer. Just heard this for the first time. We just had our first kid 3 months ago. He was born abroad and our friends/family cant understand why we dont bring him "home" to raise him. This song here is exactly why. It is no longer safe in the USA and we don't want to live with fear.

Longtime Jason Isbell fan and public school teacher here. Thank you, Mr. Isbell, for capturing so well one of the most pressing issues of our day. "Swear you’ll save the world when I lose my grip/Tell me you're in control..." Such power and empathy in these words. The entire song provides a cathartic experience for me. "Something's changing inside my head."-- I feel this so much, as a teacher, a mother, a citizen in a dying community, and a volunteer at my local jail. I weep for our world.
