Same here! Lovecraftian movies are always so underrated. I keep waiting and hoping for a big budget Lovecraftian movie to be released or announced. What a treat it was in the film Underwater when the Great Old One itself, The Great Dreamer, The Sleeper of R'lyeh Cthulhu revealed itself!

Yeah, the idea was these "things" existed on their own plane of reality and had various levels of influence. Humans literally cannot comprehend these "things" true from, often observing something from another reality breaks the person's mind from there pschy not being able to reconcile the impossibility before them. The horror is less from the gods themselves but humanity's tendency to give themselves over to a power far beyond humanity irrespective of how unknowable it is.

You can't actually even begin to describe an inconceivable concept. So therefor everything Lovecraft wrote would have to be conceivable inherently. Its almost like a trick to those that think they are more intelligent than they really are. Inconceivable is different than inexplicable. For example. Complex memories about a specific sensation of an experience can be inexplicable. But definitely conceivable. Fool.

The whole waking up thing is just an old fan theory, it isn't canon or anything and neither is Yog Sothoth being more powerful than Azathoth. Plus the argument could be made that Yog represents a mere aspect of Azathoth and therefore shares his grandfathers true unleashed power. The flute players keeping him asleep alone are universe bending beings themselves nearly on the level of Yog Sothoth so it's probably not as simple as that. The accursed flutes are more metaphorical than anything, they are probably more like every instrument ever conceived rolled into one and it takes godlike power just to use one. So godlike instruments welded by godlike beings is what it takes just to keep him asleep. That isn't a feat of power persay, but it most definitely is indicative of just how powerful he is. All the beings of the outer void are pretty much omnipotent compared to a human.

Lovecraft himself used elder god, elder ones, elder things interchangeably. Its only people like Derleth and Petersen that strove to codify the mythos and put everything in little boxes. You're dealing with vast epochs of time that boggle the imagination and so of course names wil be apocryphal. That's what makes it fun and interesting. Once you slap a name on the unnamable it becomes mundane.
