I've helped thousands of people cut the cable cord and switch to live TV streaming, but that doesn't mean it's right for everyone. In today's video, I'll break down 5 reasons why now may not be the right time to cut the cord. This video was inspired by a comment I received on UKposts. That's the beauty of it, actually. We have 2 choices here, a fibre optic thru our phone company and a cable TV option. We have a roof antenna and streaming devices. If they want to talk, i'll listen. Last offer was internet and cable TV for 90. We might. I really think you have to move around with phone, TV/internet, and insurance. Maybe even employers now. We were taught customer loyalty is a positive attribute. Not anymore. Some of you folks sound like spurned lovers! Don't take the cable company personally. Their research shows they can make a ton on complacent customers if they can retain you after a year or 2. Their business model is to lure new subscribers. Play the game. We've probably changed service providers 10 times over the past 25 years.

Cutting the cord for me was the best thing I’ve done with TV in years. I was on fence about the process but watching your videos helped me a lot. It was a no brainer for me when I realized I only need a streaming service to watch literally 3 channels that my wife watches. All those channels are available in UKposts TV for less than half the price we were paying. Thanks Michael.

Thanks for the videos Michael! We cut the cord last August and really haven’t looked back. We were paying $125 plus $70 for high speed Internet! That was insane! As of now, we have Fire TV, Netflix, and Disney+ for streaming. We also purchased a $10 Dynex antenna and we pick up all our local stations for free! Cannot complain one bit yet!

I invested in 3 Rokus for my house (had an old one that still works) at 300 dollars(4 rooms), Unlimited internet(106-teenage gamer in house) and Hulu basic , Roku and Disney plus (for kids). I own my own modem and have an antenna. I pay 100 dollars less than any possible Comcast Cable deal. My investment in the Rokus was paid off in 3 months. No retransmission fees or local sports charges and no "local taxes".

One reason you may wish to reconsider subscribing to Dish or DirecTV if you live in the Northeast is inclement weather. You will frequently lose all reception and you have to climb up to the dish to wipe off the sleet and snow.

I agree try streaming before you get rid of cable/satellite, this is what I found out when I did that. I was watching my Roku more than Dish. 16 months since cutting the cord and no regrets. I’m finally paying for a service. I subscribed this month to Peacock. They had a 12 month offer for $19.99. As far as internet speed., definitely try it before you cut the cord. I have DSL and pay for 6mbps but only get 5.5mbps. I have had zero issues streaming on demand and live TV in HD with my Roku’s. We have streamed 2 different TVs at the same time without issues plus 3 people internet surfing. I thought I would have to upgrade my DSL to 12mbps or 24mbps but have not. I have had no issues with the minimum package. As far as Dish/Directv buyouts both are $20 per month for the each months remaining on your contract. So if you sign up then the next day get rid of it your 23 month early termination fee would be $460.

For me money wasn't the main reason why I cut the cord but it was in the top two. I got sick and tired of the hassle of trying to call Xfinity or Verizon every time my bill went up just to get $10 taken off. I would then have to play this game of not signing a contract to that every year I would switch back and forward between Verizon Fios and Xfinity just to keep my cost down. Also, maybe it's just me but it sticks in my craw to be forced into renting equipment. In a typical home where people have between 2 to 4 TVs equipment rental charges alone can add $50 plus to your bill. I honestly will be glad when T-Mobile, Verizon 5G, Space X or Amazon are available to me so that I can ditch cable companies all together.
@ShirlBussman

@Kenyatta Clay It's a game and I too hate it. Amazon is great but it doesn't give you many sports. I want to watch the NHL and I need to find another provider because I don't want to rent my modam so I have to find someone else and I'm limited. Xfinity, Dish are out for me. 😊

I finally jumped on the CC bandwagon. I haven't watched much cable tv over the years. After being on hold for an hour, I am now free at last, free at last! I was a Spectrum "legacy customer" and my internet was 24mbps down. After the change, I did a speed test, I am now 300 mbps down. I didn't notice any difference otherwise. My operating system updates will be faster, I'm sure. I have had an antenna up for at least 5 years, so I get the locals that way. Life is good. I don't expect to ever subscribe to any streaming services. I do get lots of ad supported free channels via my Roku.

I've been considering moving to a streaming service. Initially, it was for the purpose of possibly cutting cost. It became needlessly complicated trying to get the math to work. Then, I discovered that several channels I spend a lit of time watching were not available through the streaming service. Examples included A&E, History, PBS, and Discovery. Finally, the inability to record a specific episode and/or delete one or more individual episodes within any of the major streaming services. Having to install third-party software, at additional cost, to have these functions didn't sit well. All in all, I don't see a compelling need to switch--even though I'll end up having to spend more money.

I don’t use live tv nor am I into sports, so cutting the cord last year made sense to me and I’m saving a lot of money, other than Netflix I rotate services each month (Hulu, Disney, HBO, so on so forth). I only have two other active services besides Netflix at one time, switch one of the two out the next month, repeat the month after that, and that is my viewing habits.

One thing that I am NOW concerned about is this AT&T/ DISCOVERY deal that was just announced. It may be too early to look for analysis on what this is going to mean to us consumers, because this concerns the merger of the Warner properties AND the Discovery properties, so that kind of information probably isn't available yet. I'm wondering if they will start pulling all of those channels from services like UKposts tv and basically ruin those services for us, forcing us to HAVE TO subscribe to their service to get those channels. We all know that these companies don't give a rip about the consumer, so it looks like MUCH higher prices might be on the horizon. This may be another reason to not cut the cord until we see what the aftermath of this merger is. Please let us know what you hear about this. Thanks Michael

@spaceghost4474
@spaceghost4474 3 роки тому
@BlackWorm Yeah, but Warner is as bad as Disney with that nonsense, and I really haven't seen anything about who will be in control. One thing that we will probably be seeing soon is AT&T shutting down their streaming service, so anyone who has them and likes them will probably be out in the cold pretty soon, the way PS View customers were. They have a lot of customers that have the two year contract service, and I'm betting that they get screwed, blued and tattooed. This is probably why they stopped taking new customers on the contract service.

What people fail to realize is that cable wasn’t that expensive when it was first around much like streaming. As time goes by though, cable rates increased and now streaming is too. Hulu, Disney+, and Netflix have all gone up every year as well as UKposts tv. Eventually streaming will be as expensive or more than cable and then we’re right back where we started.
@MichaelSaves
@MichaelSaves 2 роки тому
It's possible, but streaming offers choice. Some people are fine with free streaming services. Yes, UKposts TV and the ones with cable networks will likely continue to rise in price. But many people have no need for cable networks anymore. So I think the competition is a good thing, but it does feel at times "they'll get our money one way or another."

Michael, your advice is great. I am trying to move forward to save money. Before I move forward on cutting cable, I want to return one small cable box in my hobby room. I know I am spending a bundle, because additionally I have NETFLIX and Amazon Prime (not the best streaming service).My bill includes internet and a home phone (??) :) don't ask about the phone. I am beyond the contract period. So, I just bought a Roku Ultra from Costco to add to the hobby TV. I will leave cable on my other TV's for now. Will I be able to do this successfully? My household watches a lot of local news channels and live TV. Will I be able to see he benefits with one TV hooked up to Roku. Additionally, I have to return the modem and router i have, because of course that is an additional fee. However, I don't know which router and modem to buy. I have an Xfinity package and its ridiculous. Your comments and ideas are appreciated.

For those who think that you can't cut the cord because you're under contract with your cable or satellite provider, you might want to look into this a little further, particularly if you have multiple services through them. I cut the cord with Comcast toward the end of June this year. I'd had cable, internet and landline with them. I dropped cable and kept the landline and internet, and I didn't have to pay a termination fee to do so. By the way, it was pretty easy to do, with no hassles. Your mileage may vary, so check with your provider to see if this is a possibility for you.

Sling is cheaper because it offers limited locals. Plenty of options with all locals. See this video: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/o3uaYWiAmYx4y6s.htmlsi=B550GIXQD1NdvT4p

I find this all very overwhelming. I'm a simple person. I only watch a few certain channels on tv using Optimum. But it's gotten too expensive. Can anyone simplify this for me? What would you choose to switch?

Check out my Streaming TV 101 playlist. You can go to Sling TV’s website and enter your channels into its Service Optimizer tool. If it’s only a few, one of Sling TV’s $35 plans will work. Also go to MichaelSaves.com. Under cut the cord, I have lots of resources for beginners.

i am SO with you on that one! I'm fed up with paying Dish $95/mo when I watch about 1/3 of the channels on the "pick and choose" basic pkg, ugh! I'm already thinking I can kick Dish to the curb with Michael's videos...we can do this! LOL :)

Check out Philo also. It’s a great value & doesn’t get enough attention. A fireTV stick is a good choice for Amazon customers, especially if you have Prime. If you like Apple, an AppleTV box is a good choice.

As someone with an intimate understanding of the cable industry, it is unlikely to pay $60 a month bottom line. This would be an EXCELLENT promotion. After broadcast charges, equipment rentals, and any upgrade charges, you may be paying more. I imagine that price may be your basic starter package with little to no equipment meaning you are purchasing your own devices such as roku, fire stick, or Apple TV. At the same time, traditional cable providers offer an experience which differs from the new cheaper streaming platforms. As you mentioned one of these main benefits is local channels and sports channels. If we are going to pay athletes $100 million dollars to throw a ball, and you enjoy watching them, well that is going to affect your cable bill. Don’t get angry with the provider, the only way they can provide you the channels is by paying the contracts to the networks who carry your favorite teams. Traditional cable providers can offer you a wider array of channels and also often bundle in many premium services at a lower cost than if you purchase them ala cart. Once again if we are going to pay actors $100 million dollars to make a movie, and you want to watch their movies, it’s gonna cost a lot.

You make some good points here, particularly about sports. Nobody is making $100 million movies for cable though. The cable bundle is really about sports, opinion news and locals. The best entertainment programming has moved to streaming.

The only thing I’m concerned about is throttle back of my internet speed and getting buffering.

Another reason not to cut the cord, poor signal provided by ota stations in your area. I live in a valley area of Colorado, NBC,ABC, fox, cw are all week, CBS pixlates alot , and forget pbs, or sub stations. Strongest are telemundo and court TV saddly.

I’m going somewhere where can’t get cable…. Also paying $163 ….. yuck. Also I heard Dish will double the second year and you have to have great credit plus the contract crap

Also, streaming has content you can’t get on cable. That’s going to increase as people leave cable more over time. Disney channels are disappearing in the UK. Eventually cable will just carry the Internet. Sports will be live streamed and everything else will be on-demand streaming.

One thing I will like to ask do I have to pay rental fees. How much am I spending after taxes. But UKposts tv 📺 can fit in your pocket. Because you can take your Roku or Amazon fire stick on vacation with you. And if you you can put a TV in your bathroom 🚽. No stupid cable cords.

Cable isn't worth it unless you are retired and have time to browse 150 channels daily. You're basically helping the celebrity industry get paid for something you barely use. How are we benefiting from it if we are at work 8hrs a day?
