Watching this is such an amazing treat for me. I paddled the North Shore of Lake Superior many times when I was a young man back in the 1960's and 1970's. The opportunity you have to do this trip is a gift for you and a rare gift for us to ride with along. The trip harkens back to a simpler time that seems lost in this phony and complicated world we find ourselves in. That area will always be a wilderness, long after humans have burned out and are gone from the earth. So timeless.

You have created an incredible paean to Lake Superior. This video could have been broadcast on NOVA or Nature or National. In fact, it should be. I do not know how but, somehow, you managed to accumulate the boatload of good karma required to get an opportunity like this. When I was young, I did not have the freedom. Great Dry Suite! It for sure can save your life if you flip. Because you can't roll a canoe, I'm sure you know that a Dry suite only gives you about another 30 to 40 minutes extra in that 48 degree F water. If you have a kayak, and you can roll, the risk of hypothermia is greatly reduced.

Great watch!! Grew up on Lake Superior but have been living in Tasmania for 16 years. Didn't realize how much I missed Giche Gumee, definitely scheduling a trip to the north shore on my next visit home! Thanks heaps for taking the time to put this together.

Thanks a lot John! That's quite a contrast. It's my favourite lake and after living here in Marathon for a few years, I find it hard to imagine leaving it

Sometimes your videos make me nostalgic for home, but then I hear that droning, that high pitched buzz, and I remember the mosquitoes.

Just discovered you man...so positive and relaxing. Here I am sitting here typing my butt off...a cog in the wheel and this video was able to transport me somewhere I'd rather be. New subscriber for sure and hey, if you ever need someone to take a trip with you, let me know!

The timing for this nice long video was perfect for me today. I am spending my day indoors with my poor little chihuahua that has a bot-fly in her chest, so your video made for a perfect afternoon of enjoying nature and the absolute beauty and magnificence of Lake Superior and her islands from the comfort of my couch. Very happy to see you taking all the safety precautions. I lost a good friend just last month (RIP Tony J.-ba) to the icy waters of Lake Huron as he was canoeing with his wife. Even the most experienced swimmers and canoeists need to be prepared for the Great Lakes' cold waters (especially Huron and more so on Superior). Thanks for sharing, Jon. Cheers and stay safe.

I watched the entire show in one sitting. Enjoyed it very much. What a beautiful trip. I think this trip would be 100X better if it were with a love one. Thanks for taking the time to do the video, can't imagine how long it took to edit.

@Fishing Addict there are pros and cons with going with your partner. I am pretty slow in or out of the water (even when i was young, this was an issue).... so you have to be a very well matched pair, physically, mentally etc for it to work well. Extended walking trips with my guy worked well, but not so much the kayaking... (the wind resistance was a bit misery making for me) but the bits we did on calm days, for short trips were fun though.
