An employer already decides when you wake, when you sleep, how much money you deserve which directly correlates to how much material possession, food and housing quality you “deserve” . You’re already beholden 100% to something outside of your control

I think there is a difference between liking the work I do and not liking the fact I have to work to survive. I'd rather not have to work, but I'd still probably be doing what I do at work in my spare time (I'm a software dev).

Polls are mostly just your own little echo chamber. Your audience is mostly people who agree with you, have their opinions formed by you and people have a strong tendency to socially align themselves based on context.

One of our great politicians recently said "we need AI to detect hate in the internet that is not punishable yet". I don't have to think much when I have to decide whether I want these people in charge or a well aligned AI.

At my taxi company we're in a pilot where all the appointments are planned by a computer. It will eventually lead to layoff of most of the planning personnel.

Fed up with my electrician grind… waking up long before dawn and for 50 hours a week and getting bullied and harassed for being artsy and or autistic, and now my shoulder was injured in January and I’ve been waiting for the insurance bastards to agree to send me for the treatment my doctors recommended… feeling used up and burnt out… not sure how to continue my career path. Would rather be in business for myself installing EV chargers in peoples garages working directly for customers on my own terms. Seems like it’s going to be some more years before they develop robots that are agile enough to do electrical work but if i own my own company and work directly for residential customers maybe the bots don’t pose a threat to my livelihood? Prayers… im grateful for today and this channel to be contemplating the deeper questions…

I don't have the option to like my job or not. Sometimes I love it, and sometimes I hate it, but it all depends on factors beyond my control, set by management or the company's direction. It would be beneficial to use AI for the tasks I dislike, regardless of whether it performs better than me or not, as it would free me up to do what I actually enjoy.

when I had a job, I sat on my desk and I browsed reddit for 8 hours a day, I still got paid for attendance, but I did maybe 1 hour worth of actual work a week, it felt horrible. I hope we don't create more bullshit jobs to avoid paying people with UBI

Quick take on that second poll about Ai taking over government, Upon asking Ai's like GPT about their underlying biases towards capitalism, it is not hesitant to explain how because we largely live in a global capitalist world today, and its training data contains most of the theoretical and ideological underpinnings for capitalism, it will likely spread propaganda in all of its generated content because that is what it knows about fundamentally. There are VERY serious ethical and moralistic concerns with this where kids (and less economically and politically aware adults) will be using this and getting a sort of reinforcement bias towards capitalist modes of production without giving any reference to other more than viable solutions. Often I've had to correct GPT because it will instantly give me a capitalist perspective on something first. Imagine how an Ai with this ideological agenda will shape the world, not good to be honest. The only way this could work would be if (like the socialist mantra) "the means of production" and tech was democratised, open source and understandable by all so we can all have our voices heard via direct democracy and it is an entirely transparent process.

i missed your poll but on the lifespan question I'm not sure how I'd answer. I'd favour extended lifespan but that's not quite the same thing. Indefinite lifespan effectively turns people into gods and that has some very obvious downsides. Extended lifespan preserves the sanctity and meaning of life but would give people greater opportunity to explore and realise their potential. Where that level of extension should end I don't know and it's something I'd be interested to explore further.

When you run polls do you consider how people may be impacted by their answers given some hypothetical future AI empowered authoritarian with access to the data?

We have about 3.5 months left at my place (pallet rack manufacturing in socal) until the building is completely stripped and gutted. Two stamping pieces are going to Utah and the rest of the equipment is going to Mexico. The old plant had about 50~ people on the floor the new plant in Utah will have about 8 people, be mostly automated and make them at about 3x faster.
