I'd rather they end it with Zen 5 if it means bigger leaps in performance. There's no point in holding tech back so you can keep using your motherboard and ram longer. Just replace your system when you feel the time is right.

I'm totally down for a 1.4-1.6x ipc boost, but where are the 16 core parts? they seem to be completely missing from what was talked about here today and there's no way in heck that i'm going back to 8 core parts in 2024-5.

@@lovie74 You forget the benefit of 16 core parts is double the cache memory which helps a lot in games. This should make the Ryzen 9 9950X faster than the 7800X3D with everything accounted for. However the main issue with X3D on 16 cores is there is only one die with X3D Cache I hope that changes this generation.

@@EliezYT I mean for pure gaming performance out of all the benchmarks I've ever seen 8 core is the most stable and that's why the 7800x3d is the best. Like for tarkov, you don't want more than 8 cores, same with a bunch of other games from benchmarks I've seen is all. In terms of having more cache, I doubt having double the cache will have a huge difference for the 9950x, since after some point cache stops giving performance. Same with the amount of ram you have etc. I think the 9800x3d in jan will probably just be the best yet again in terms of gaming performance purely, and the 9950x for gaming/whatever other loads you need.

@@EliezYT The problem is the ccd to ccd latency on the other die's cache dramatically curtails the advantages. This is why the x3d parts are made the way they are. They likely could have made an 8 core part with the dummy die/ccd replaced with an all cache die that would be even bigger, but stacking the way they do it minimizes the latency enough to make it actually faster, If a bit more expensive and constrains the max clock a bit. For the purpose of cache, a 16 core part with 2 ccd dies will usually get beat by an 8 core x3d part of the same generation, and the next will need significant improvements in ipc/clock speed/ per die cache to catch up on 16core part.at 5+ghz the difference between .03 and 3 mm is huge at the speed electricity moves at.

@@RogueRyzen That's cool - you can do that. I save up to get more updated parts or to build a whole new system. When I made the switch from AM4 to AM5 ; I built what I would call _ a transition build. I used what I could from my system. That let me use more on getting a better MB. The MB I was able to get as the heart of my AM5 ssytem was the Asus ProArt X670-E Creator Wifi. : For the ram I went with one of the cheaper 4 x 16gb kits to start off with 64gb's. CPU was the Ryzen 7 7700X. For the GPU - that was one of the carry-over parts between the build. It was a : PowerColor Red Devil AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. The PSU was the - Seasonic PRIME 1300 Gold SSR-1300GD 1300W 80+ Gold FM. CPU Cooler is the : Be Quiet 240 AIO. My display for my pc's is a : Samsung 52" 4K TV ; it's been a wonderful option. I have been using TV's as my computer display's for 10+ years now. The case I use for my system's now is a : Cooler Master HAF XB Evo. I do have dual LG Super-Multi BRW drives. Call me weird if you want : but i still use the drives for wayching my Blu-Ray movies , I still do some CD ripping , i just made a custom music cd. It's alway nice seeing others who use TV's as their main display.

Don't believe these numbers for a second. Doesn't matter if it's CPUs or GPUs, the rumored numbers, and even the ones presented by AMD, Nvidia never holds up in practice. For example Nvidia says that it's up to 80% faster which is true for 1 or 2 games while 99% of games are around 50%.

you smoking penis? most benchmarks clearly show a 7600x is 25% faster than a 5600x yes it runs at higher clocks but still it is nowhere near 13% it's probably about 20% increase. lets not mention 7800x3d is faster than any other cpu for gaming and uses way less power than anything intel has to offer. by way less in some gaming benchmarks it was using 100 watts less meaning the 14700k was running at about 160 watts while gaming while the 7800x3d was using about 60, which is crazy because the 7800x3d tdp is limited to 105.

early rumors/leaks are always too high. one of the worst examples was rdna3 being 3x faster at first to slowly come down to 2.5x, 2x and then about 1.5x

whats really gonna be interesting is the L3 cache. Ring vs ladder. I wonder if the 32 mb ladder is gonna be close to the older 96mb ring, We may see the 9700x get somewhat close to the 7800x3d in gaming. If it does that means the 9800x3d is gonna be amazing. @@metalroachtwo My first actual build was in 2019, before then I only used laptops from 2006 (because it was all I could afford), had a 3200G, no GPU, barely able to run windows stable with the OC I had xDDD. Now, because my cousin was gracious enough to give some of the parts he had because he upgraded, have a 3700X and a 2080 Super. Only thing I'm planning on upgrading is the CPU, maybe AM5 in a year or two once I've saved up lol

I think even 20% uplift would be reasonably interesting, depending on what you're upgrading from. I got zen 4 though. And I'm kinda thinking that zen 6 will remain on the AM5 socket. So I probably won't touch my cpu until zen 6. If zen 6 comes out and is on a new socket though, I'll buy a "retiring" zen 5 chip.

remember that x3d cores clock much slower than non x3d cores. the solution is not to make both x3d chiplets, but add logic to contain activity to only one chiplet during gaming, and then prefer the non x3d chiplet for productivity apps

On older games, this is easily a 4K card. On newer games, it is a 1440p high/ultra card. On UE5 games, it's a 1440p medium card, potentially with upscaling required. I'm currently running a 6900xt, and run UE5 games at 1440p med/high with fsr2(xess is far superior if available) I tend to figure out my FPS a bit different though. I let new games run unlimited to see where performance sits, and see where the bottleneck is in something like afterburner. I then limit the frames by 5-10% and tweak in-game graphics/cpu settings so my baby runs cool and silent. You should get AT LEAST a couple of years out of your setup, much, much longer if you are willing to turn some settings down/use upscaling.

A pity that AMD can't really compete on the GPU side as well as they do with CPUs, their upscaling and raytracing lags behind Nvidia. Hopefully they can improve FSR and RT and come with more affordable GPUs.

They obliterated Nvidia in the server side GPUs with their last release. They definitely have the capability to win the GPU race in the consumer space as well, but their focus there seems to be providing better raw performance at a lower price and higher power draw. I think if they decided to try and release the best gaming GPU they could, it would come with a price tag to match.

@@Suandihendrik My only justification for the 7950x3D was AVX512 which specifically works well with Topaz AI. However I have since discovered it pre-compiles shaders very very quickly. (When Forza Motorsport 2023 launched it had a bug that would re-compile shaders every time, some people would have to wait half an hour for an old processor to finish, took barely two minutes with the 7950x3D.)

If you use a software like process lasso to manually ensure that only your game is running on the x3D CCD, the 7950X3D is 1-2% faster than the 7800X3D in gaming. I have a 7800X3D, and my roommate has a 7950X3D since he also does graphic design and video editing for marketing.

You should look at it from the other side...why does Intel keep losing, even with faster memory and higher clocks? I will be very happy if the 9000 series beats 15th gen AND it only needs cheap DDR5. Same as 5000 series with 3600 C16 DDR4 was faster than 11th gen with 4000+ DDR4

@@cosmic_gate476 yeah I’m currently on a 165hz 1080p I’m thinking of 240 1080p or maybe 240 1440p. It’s a good rig that’ll last long enough. I’ll probably upgrade when the ps7 or ps8 comes out just to make sure my specs beats the console

No. There isn't a single scenario where you'd be able to tell any meaningful difference. If you hadn't bought it yet and a new PC could've waited until Black Friday or even Christmas (that's what I'm doing), then yeah, but you get to have a top-shelf CPU now and for less money than what it costed on launch, while the moment when you'd be like "damn, if only I waited and got that 9800X3D instead" very unlikely to ever happen.

Intel claims they will have 1 trillion transistors on a chip by 2030, *cough* *cough* sooo, that means at least 125 billion on their next-gen Arrow Lake CPU, *cough* which means AMD will have some bone crushing competition if Intel is to be believed. Zen 5 - 15-30% IPC gains, 3-500 MHz clock increases & same core counts.

So glad I made the choice to wait till 2025 for the Zen 5 9800X3D or a 9900X3D to pair hopefully with whatever AMD's next highest flagship is but in the PowerColer Red Devil version for my next PC Build for pure gaming, and glad I bought a Powercolor Fighters RX 7600 8gb for Av1 going forward back in December Edit: Great Vid as always GC.

Yeah but Paul from Tom's hardware got confirmation from a AMD rep on twitter it's H2 not H1 24 like a couple days ago. So I am saying prob September. I am never gonna upgrade listening to the rumour mill, but I can't help myself. Guess something will have to blow up on my 6 year old rig before I really do upgrade... like last time I upgraded.

It also has way lower power consumption too, yet it still beats intel, even with slower DDR5! System instability is also nonsense, cry harder intel fanboy.
