i upgraded from i9-9900k to 7800x3d and that was already huge in itself, my FPS in fortnite went from 200 to 500+ lol cant wait for 9800x3d now i only need to swap cpu ill be able to use same ram and mobo

I’m not looking for a 9000 CPU, but hopefully they are amazing to make the 7800x3d cheaper, to get it myself and a very nice motherboard. 7800x3d will last a long time for 4K gaming tbh.

@@glbernini0 I think the only thing that will make me upgrade this time around is if there is a 9950x3d that doesn't have the ccd issues this time around where sometimes the X3D was used and sometimes not so it never really ran optimally gaming. I do enjoy overclocking for fun and also have gotten into more workloads that would benefit from more than 8 cores but I'll just wait and see what comes. For now I couldn't be happier with what I have.

I would highly suggest to not use red gaming tech as a reliable source. These days all he does is parrot what others say, say things that are pretty obvious, or give leaks from his “sources” but they are never concrete he caveats everything that is a “leak” with “take that with a grain of salt because my other sources disagree with this source”. I have been subbed to him for years and I think what happened was he used to have sources a couple years ago but doesn’t anymore. Can someone Name me something he has leaked recently that turned out to be true that he was the first to have the info for. Others like moores law is dead occasionally get stuff wrong but they actually leak things like cpu dies, internal documents, or detailed specs before any of the info is known to the public.

I just go to MLID for any leaks at this point because he’s completely no bullshit and actually states the level of guarantee he has in his leaks and compares it to other leaks of the same product. Red Gaming Tech only regurgitates his own information over and over again and assumes it to be correct until near the product launch when he suddenly switches to “but take that with a grain of salt I could be wrong”.

If a plain entry level 9600x (assuming AMD keeps the naming nomenclature) has a 30% IPC gain over the 7600x and is offered at a reasonable price, I do believe it will be finally time to retire my 5600x AM4 system.

According to rumors, the reason the Zen 5 9950X and 9950X3D have a 46% IPC improvement over the 7950X and the 7950X3D is that the 9950X and the 9950X3D are rumored to have a 6.5 GHZ max clock speed, with Ryzen 7800X3D temperatures. I hope in every way its true.

I’ve been waiting and saving very slowly since 2020 to build a vey high end PC and the wait for this next gen is excruciating! I want to build one now but I feel like I should wait for these new cpus and gpus to release before landing on a build spec

The SPEC benchmark set is often considered a throughput based on having two threads per core, there's also single threaded SPEC and leak doesn't specify which one is used, but Zen5 has so much more resources that I wouldn't be surprised this kind of result when utilizing SMT to fullest. Also SPEC is compiled by each user for the target platform, thus you could see AVX-512 being used in some of the benchmarks. Thus 40% is the lets recompile with optimizations to our specific processor rather what you would see running on existing binaries.

This. IPC gains are not the same across all workloads. 40% performance gains in SPEC do not indicate a 40% IPC gain in everything, most likely we'll only see a modest ~10-15% gain in most tasks.

smells like extreme hopium overdose. +40% would be as big if not bigger jump than what we got from OG Zen from the abysmal Bulldozer days. I want it to be true, but realistic expectations are probably more in line with ~15% improvement.

I've been suspected a long time that in this generation AMD solved the Topology problem. 🤔 🤔 🤔 Well if that's what happened. 40% uplift in Cinebench R23 sound about right.

Most likely Zen 5 vanilla will be 15%+/- in gaming perf, and then 30%+/- for the X3D variant, just like Zen 4 was. I havent even finished my AM5 build and booted up my 7800X3D yet, lol, ill probably wait for Zen 6 to drop it into my board.

My guess would be 20%+ and another 10-15% for Vcache models(in games). If they match the uplift from zen3 to 4 it will be a huge success. 40% overall? No way. Probably not even in a single cherry picked benchmark. The hype machine always hypes though.

Looks like we might be getting to the point where buying a cheap prebuilt and throwing in new RAM and GPU (along with selling wtv is in it stock) might be the most affordable way to get a new PC as opposed to building from scratch (if you are on an older platform like AM4). I hate doing that, but with motherboard and GPU and higher RAM prices to the consumer as of late, total high-end builds from scratch can easily run over $4K with a high-end card, and I have a feeling my 5800X is going to have a tough time keeping up with a 5090 or even a 5080 at 1440P/High+RT.

It's "upto" not 40% across the board. if clocks stay on boost longer or higher and ipc is higher, especially for avx workloads (not that I like avx) up to 40 is possible.

Ladder cache should remove some of the advantage that X3D has over current spec CPU's. X3D will still have faster and more cache access, of course, but at a cost of clockspeed due to heat. But the N4 process should reduce some of that heat too, allowing clocks on the X3D chips to be closer to standard X spec chips, so overall I'd expect a similar percentage gap to be maintained to current 7950X3D to 7950X. What we need is probably a 9700X3D instead of a 9800X3D, or a suite of 9700X3D, 9800X3D, no 9900X3D, and a 9950X3D. The 7900X3D and 2x6 core layout, and it's scheduler issues really made it a bit of a bust. I guess now at least the 7900X3d is cheap. Cheap enough for it to be a viable alternative to the slightly cheaper 7800X3D for power users and streamers, but it's still an incredibly niche chip. I really can't see AMD choosing to make such a chip again only to see it fail to sell.

looking forward to this been starving for amd news find the nvidia stuff pretty boring, but this is looking promising especially for the 9800X3D now just need more info on the 8900XTX. edit: since new build is all new parts Ram, CPU, Motherboard, and GPU Generations and the new up coming Enermax D.F.12 Revolution PSU hopefully the next gen AMD cards use the new connector since i'm sure amd's gonna have it soon and have had way more time to work the kinks out vs nvidia slapping the crap on there and calling it a day. and looking forward to the new Micro ATX B750's coming soon.

I'm curious about the 9700g which might have a strix point igpu. And the 9600g has hawk point? @_@ they should release this asap. And strix halo :| yum yum. I'm not a laptop guy so no 8850hs(strix point) for me. :( I'm making a small form factor strix point prebuild. (I have itx case.... High speed ddr5 ram.... Storage..... A psu for small form factor.... But do not have the 9700g and the upcoming motherboard.) It's going to be better than my current pc which has 1050 non ti 10100f. 😅

I'm anxiously awaiting AMD's next desktop offering. I bought the 5950x for music production and I fell in love with it when fired up a previously ground-to-a-halt project and it was buttery smooth. I'm skipping the 7950 and will buy whatever the next thing is! I've had Intel chips since the 90s and my first foray into the AMD world was pure joy. I heard Apple Silicon is good for music production too, but as a mastering engineer and producer for two decades, my projects have become increasingly ridiculous.. especially in RAM usage. Some of the music sample instruments use gigabytes of RAM just to load up... and the cost of Apple memory is pure insult.. I'm needing 64GB and above just to open some music projects.

The 3d v-cache adds a level of complexity to the design. It makes sense to get the basic design right, then to add v-cache.

AMD is expected to release 3D V-cache versions of Zen 5 sooner after the initial launch than they did with Zen 3 and Zen 4. AMD wants to ensure that Arrow Lake won't be able to take back the gaming performance lead for Intel, and they have 2 generations of experience building X3D CPUs already, so they don't need as long to test and validate them as they did previously. Some leaks have even indicated that AMD is considering delaying the launch of Zen 5 slightly so they can launch the standard and X3D versions at the same time, though they've made clear that this is only something AMD is considering, not something they're definitely going to do.

I'm taking this track potentially on 7800X3d or 9700X3d, and probably on the 7900XT (or 8800XT) too. Recently there was a sale on 7900XT's and I held off and waited for GRE global release, and now the 7900XT chips went back up $300 and the GRE is only $50 less than the 7900XT was.

The standard version won't. The Zen 5 Strix APUs will though, with significant upgrades over the NPU in Phoenix/Hawk Point. I expect Zen 6 CPUs will have NPUs, but this is speculation.

Basically the same as current ones, but they use x4 lanes from cpu or chipset for USB4 and upgrade the m.2 wifi card to Wifi6

They have already said arrow lake MBs will have features like not sharing pci5 lanes with the gpu, will not support ddr4 and other things like that. iam still sitting on a 3900x with 6800xt...on 4k i have no bottlenecks and everything is running fine....but i want an upgrade...no TPM on motherboard or upgrade if i paired the 3900x with and 4090 even on 4k will be bottleneck time to change the system...i will keep the 6800xt thou great card...

Of they are using new interconnect that cut laintieces then certain work loads yes. AMD have been not only making the zen cores faster but have kept power under control something Intel is struggling with.

Funny, Back in Jan. of 2023, when I built my 7800x3d system, I purchased 6400 ram and others asked me why, it is not even supported by that cpu, And here is your answer as to why.

Actually that what I am waiting for. The first gen of a Ryzen platform have so far always been "public testbench" for AMD. so Ryzen 9000 is when AM5 matures and they iron up most of the baby problems like poor memory controller performance and they get the microcode more optimized and then likely we will see 1 or maybe 2 more generation after that before we go AM6

i am mostly cpu bottlenecked right now with a 12700k, zen 5 must be twice as fast to keep up with modern gpu's in 2025.

In what task, with what GPU? Zen 5 does not need to be twice as fast for most people. An i7-12700K doesn't bottleneck an RTX 4090 in most games at 1440p or 4K, no-one sane buys an RTX 4090 to game at 1080p, and next-gen games will be even more GPU-intensive than current ones. An RTX 5090 will not be bottlenecked by a Ryzen 7 9800X3D in next-gen AAA games.

You must be on 1080p? No way 12700k bottlenecks, I have one and game at 1440p 165hz monitor, Haven't seen a single bottleneck matched with ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 4080.

my most played games are battle royales on a 4090, max graphics settings, Fortnite is at 1080p and apex is at 4k. gpus is not maxed out in either, so logically if i want to double the fps if the 5090 is 2x performance i need double the cpu performance. and i had a 3080 on that 12700k, and my next cpu u want to reuse and just upgrade the gpu next time so it has to last minimum two generations of gpu's.

@@mitu123Copper this is a unique time but really prime time to buy probably won't be for a year until after the x3d chips are out - they will boost it up a bit but not like the 30% ipc gains we see with zen5 - if you wait you can get the new chips and have better efficiency, if you don't need newest gear the older chips will drop in price a bunch - either way you win by waiting essentially bu there are times when you shouldn't wait too since there is always something new around the corner - what makes it more relevant now is the major performance gains and amd has to capitalize and ramp or they lose big opp for expanding mkt share - they may face wafer constraints

Big little cores is actually less powerful than just big cores for the die space, it's the power efficiency that benefits. AMD already has an advantage in power efficiency and my sources tell me even Intel won't keep big.little too long. It was a marketing move more than anything as Intel needed to find an alternative to it's messed up node shrink at the time.

Intel's Core Ultra CPUs are a huge bust on laptops..they offer nothing over the 13th gen CPUs...they won't be any better on the desktop. Zen 5 is shaping up to be a huge jump in performance...but I think people should be talking about the bigger shift that has happened recently and that's games moving away from the CPU and using the GPU at almost 100% usage. These high performance CPUs may not really matter for gaming if this trend continues.

What are you talking about? Cpu is the bottleneck on a 4090 like 90% of the time. Next gen gpu will be even more powerful, requiring an even more powerful cpu to use efficiently.

@@authoritariangentleman7570 Maybe you misread what I said? I'm saying developers are not using the CPU as much anymore in newer games and patches. They're shifting all the workload to the GPU. If that trend continues, your CPU won't have an effect on the gaming experience like it once had. There was a video demonstrating this with 6-7 current games and performance was almost identical from 6 core CPUs to 16 core when using the same GPU. CPU usage was down in the 20-30% range.

Your GPU should always be at 100% usage if the game is running correctly, 100% in what it's supposed to be, if it's not that means you can turn up your visuals by a lot. CPU is the bottleneck.

@nathangamble125 cpu is the bottleneck with a 4090, period end of story. Even at 4k, only a few cpu can keep up with it. You need an i9 or R9, anything else is leaving performance on the table. Next-gen cards WILL require new, more powerful CPUs to utilize 100% gpu power.

too optimistic for my tastes but I am more interested in what they will give with the curve optimizer, the new "pbo" if there is one, memory optimization... Simply by the fact that I have a 7600 non x and after having optimized it, "whistle", these different techniques without causing overheating (on the contrary) literally put me on my ass... At this level, it is no longer OC but more optimization.

the RAM Speed aka Mhz never have been interesting..in fact an old DDR2 can have a 20 ns speed a timing no even a DDR5 6400 can ever reach... i you cant hold the low timings while "oc" the speed aka raising some speed than the you understand what i mean ... while everyone is loking the same way at thing - we know that what most people believer is 99% inacurate aka wrong -- im looking at this way.... the sweet spot are is 70% timing and 30% Mhz ..try to find it

Per Moore;s Law is Dead and the fact Zen 4 will be on 4nm node, way way too optimistic. Zen 5 will be good but 15-20% better and vanilla variants probably on par in gaming to 7800X3D like vanilla Ryzen 7000 were to 5800X3D. Then Zen 5 X3D comes out and will beat Arrow Lake in gaming while vanilla Zen 5 ties or slight behind just like Zen 4 vs Raptor Lake. but AMD will have more reliable CPUs that do not put out so much power to heat up the case unlike Intel with similar performance so a win there without having a space heater in your room yet again.

Then the 13th and 14th gen, etc. GPU performance between the 3060 Ti and 3090 Ti when compared to the 4060 Ti and the 4090 doubled in a single generation, meaning these midrange to high end GPUs are getting half the performance they should be under their new platform. Things like that, happens all the time. We saw it with the lead up of the 7900 XTX as well.

Also before 12th gen we had Zen 2 and Zen 3 which were pretty good. Then if we talk relative to the consumer hype, oh well i have a great list...

Even a regular 9700 or 9900 will beat 7800X3D as they have a little more cache and X3D's will surpass previous X3D's.

I think anything is possible depending on what you can get your customers to do for you, however it all comes down to price, yes we saw a lot of 3D chips be sold, of course to make up the unrealized difference AMD had to extend am4 platform a bit longer , it worked out for them as well as their customers, as I assume, I have no physical proof but think some of not all chips have come from recycling bins, better to use it and not waste it type of thing. Everyone is going to chiplet design, even the all mighty Nvidia has made a dummy chiplet design. Lol they copied AMD lol sorry folks that just makes me laugh, anyhow, the market is not what it was as pointed out by you and many others, price will decide first gains and software features are decided next.

It takes double the transistors to reach 40% IPC uplift. Also, don't forget that Moore's law also factors in the cost per transistors just FYI. With price increases we may very well be at that point. That said.. CPUs will continue to get faster and faster even if you can't get much of a node advancement. Stacked dies, better packaging and Vcache to name a couple. Performance will continue..but price will advance even quicker lol
