Not really. The clones will just talk to nobody. They carry out the same actions regardless of their surroundings. The real problem is when other people start actively interfering with them, which would happen, but I feel like they'd just attempt to carry out things regardless. If they were restrained they'd break their bones attempting to follow the same pattern.

This is actually, whether intended a not, one of the legitimate methods of conflict resolution. Addressing the points of a previous argument not only allows for closure, but it brings in understanding of the other person's original positions on the issue. Then a new conversation can be started, and while that may come to some additional conflict as well, it is also something to be addressed in the next conflict further down the line. By the end of this process, you are completely and unconditionally compelled to kill the other person.

Okay, so here's what you do. Joel and the original Otis get on a plane to go skydiving. But Joel packs the parachute and gives it to Otis, then they jump out of the plane and when they get to the ground they get in their car and move to their new home. Then 24 hours later, the primary clone will get on a plane, reach out for the backpack that doesn't exist and put on said imaginary back pack. Since there isn't a 24hr behind clone of Joel. So then the primary Otis clone will proceed to jump out of the plane and fall to his death. Hence not technically murder. And the primary clone of each 24 hr cycle will just repeat this process, until a pile of Otis clones reach as high as the plane and it crashes into Otis mountain. And then a new plane will just crash into the mountain, until that mountain of Otis and planes reaches space. And then we'll have an easy way to get to space and escape the hell that is Otis World.
@joesak1997
@joesak1997 Рік тому
That's a really clever solution actually, but if that's how it works, couldn't you catch any Otis's just by having Joel hold open a door for them, then any clones would just video game NPC walk into the closed door and do their entire routine inside whatever room. Then each day the room gets more packed. I wonder what happens first, the Otis's crushing each other from the pressure, or the walls breaking from the force of all the Otis's.
@ohno5507
@ohno5507 Рік тому
@@G3Kappa But that desync would kinda solve the problem in itself, because then they'd just scatter to the about the immediate area, trying to mimic the path of the original Otis, but never getting there. This says a lot about our society (it really does because I don’t think the clone friend really apologized for anything, and instead of killing his clones (getting rid of bad behavior) he tried to avoid the conflict, which led to more conflict. I especially liked how the part where he says “I don’t think it’s supposed to feel good” overlaps with him yelling around the 3:30 mark, because ultimately both lead to feelings getting hurt and nothing good happening.)

I got the impression of them being procrastination causing more issues instead of solving them, while Joel is the sensible part of the brain trying to get the work done and right. Joel can't kill the clones (or whatever deeply dysfunctional trait of the roommate is present) and when asked, the roommate is unwilling to take on the problem. There are no easy solutions, and few difficult ones. Joel can stay with friend to his own detriment or leave the friend to face the issue on their own. They're both tough choices. The right one, to me, is the one in which Joel, the assumed protagonist, is able to exert meaningful control over his mental well-being by exiting the clone loop. This does not solve friends issue but then again, his friend's issue was never actually Joel's to solve. It may sound heartless but in the end, as the ultimate steward of ones life, one has to make choices that increase mental, spiritual,and physical safety. Love the video! I laughed and felt sad at the same time. Could be because it hit close to home but then that means I've got some work to do as well.

I dunno, if the whole world just abandons people in need we end up with...well, poverty and famine. I think it's more complex than "someone should figure out their own problems," which, while admirably Liber tarian, doesn't solve many of the world's evils. Better perhaps, if you're unable to solve someone else's problem, to get them the help and resources to have it solved, than to just up and leave them. Keep your safe distance but then keep offering them those resources (therapist number, doctor, job training program, clone eraser, whatever). People need help and if you can't give it you can find someone who can, you know? Then just keep the window open for 'em, like in Peter Pan, for when they come back or finally are ready to make their own steps.

Joel makes such creative content. Every time Joel uploads its like... its crazy how -one man i think...- can come up with stuff this creative. i feel like one day a studio or movie producer will just one day reach out and be like. "This video you made. is a great concept, we would like to make this a movie." it might sound silly but i honestly believe that hiring Joel himself can make up for an entire ideas team. Especially for comedy's.

Man what a nightmare. Every day having the same argument over and over. Some would say that’s what Hell is like, others would just say it reminded of them of their marriage

I relate to Joel's friend so much. I'm hot headed, I apologize for it, sometimes it reignites the original moment, then I apologize again, and then I just tell myself to stfu, say sorry, and walk away.
