We're considering Direct TV Stream my whole life I have had Cable TV because of TIVO DVR'S which I love we currently have a 6 tuner 2 TB DVR but always have issues with cable cards in the beginning when we upgrade to the latest Tivo and now you have to have this Tuning Adapter and we get error messages and black screens all the time and channels don't come in and it's a pain and we've had Spectrum out so many times and was going to get Direct TV Stream a while back but Spectrum offered us a good deal for a year with movies channels and we took it but it will be over soon I need to look when. I am going to watch this video but I do know we need unlimited cloud storage not no 20 hours like she told me on the phone today. She said unlimited was $10 extra in this video it says it's included now. She was so pushy too and said you get a $250 visa gift card. So dies stuff delete after 90 days or is it 9 months now? Our Tivo now we have 2 x Tivo minis they are called in 2 other bedrooms. So I would want two boxes with remotes extra besides the one in the family room. So if you have the unlimited cloud storage and these boxes do you access everything from the remote? I do have roku on 2 out of 3 TV's she mentioned having that on the phone but if we have the boxes connected we don't need the app correct? And lastly she recommended the choice package but I don't see any Hallmark channels and right now I have regular, movies and mysteries and drama I think she told me it included Hallmark but I see it on the package that's cheaper than choice and on the next higher up one so I am confused. But we don't want Satellite outside and we also would have to switch our internet over too. Anyone by chance go from Tivo to this? We tried You Tube TV a while back but didn't use it long enough to decide if we liked it or not. Spectrum has a cloud DVR but the app only works on Samsung TV's we were told. Just trying to decide what to do. Thanks!

@@MichaelSaves So if we decide to try this we should do it online? Over the phone today she said we would get a $250 Visa gift card but she said it was $10 more for unlimited DVR. She said we get one box free and for 2 other boxes and remotes $5 each which I am ok with. Our Tivo minis are $6.99 for each and our Tivo Bolt has a lifetime subscription it.

Also, they recently added you can view what your "fast forwarding" through on the dvr. Before you'd have to guess when to resume.

I switched to Directv Stream from YTTV to get the Regional Sports. Well worth it! I also like the way Directv stream does the 20 total streams. I use this service at my business, at home and my son uses it also.

Great video! I currently have Xfinity and it's terrible, constantly pixelating or no sound or both! BUT everything is fine according to Xfinity, so I have been looking for an alternative cable like TV experience. DIRECTV Stream is the only one who offers me my local sports channel (NESN) for Boston Red Sox baseball. The choice plan sounds like a good deal when compared to Xfinity (I only have a "4K"DVR and one HD box), so I will be able to get TV anywhere in the house now. Thank you for this very helpful video! Thank for taking your time to enlighten us about our options. I've had Direct TV for 2 year's. Love that they have the Nba sports package. I'm paying $200 a month 🤯. Any other shows I watch are on either Netflix or Hulu. I do have the unlimited dvr, which cost $30 monthly plus how much ever for insurance. I do like Direct TV, besides the price and wish I could pick what channels I want to watch!! In order to watch Every single Warrior's game I have to get the NBA league pass! I got the bay area channel and Bally sports channel, still didn't have Every game. Never had UKposts TV before. I'll do some research.

Directv Stream is a particularly good choice for those moving from Directv satellite because the channel numbers are all the same. The Directv Stream box is also a good device, again, because of channel numbering. Something a lot of non-tech savvy people may not know is that most streaming services don’t use channel numbers _at all!_ It’s always just alphabetical, which can be annoying having used channel numbers your whole life! Also, the Directv Stream box’s remote is good not only because it has a keypad, but because it’s _normal size!_ It’s not a ridiculously tiny ‘toy’ remote like all the other streaming boxes come with..

My parents cut the cable string recently. I helped get them set up with Direct Stream. A few things they don’t care for. With xfinity you the ability to save shows and view items based on your remote control. Kind of like having your own individual page without reviewing what others are watching and saving. They also didn’t receive unlimited DVR recording but had to pay $10 extra per month! They were also charged full price their first month, even though they signed up mid month. Other than that they’re pleased and the cost is less than with Xfinity!

I switched from YTTV to Direct because of the RSN, regionals sports network. So far so good...5 day demo includes free unltd. DVR. The only thing I didnt like is that my new LG NANO was not supported so I used the firestick I had before I purchased the LG.

Direct stream TV is hands down better than everything. It's pricey but it's all inclusive. You don't need a cable box to run it but I'd reccomended buying their box on EBAY. I paid $40 a box. Great if you have less than perfect internet service. I get 9 mos of DVR unlimited. It was just updated recently. If you travel you can use 3 streams outside of your IP address. 2 streams/boxes and 1 mobile device. I get all my sports and apps in 1 box.

As someone who just did this switched. If you want streaming and want your local hockey or NBA then you have to get Directtv stream choice package. But at least you get unlimited DVR, 3 months of premiums and unlimited streams at home and 3 streams away of home.

Same problem with live tv streaming services is the problem traditional cable had. Every year some of all the channels contracts come up for negotiation. Those channels want to increase their prices to carry them which in turn makes the live tv provider have to decide to either continue carrying those channels and charge users more monthly or drop the channels altogether. Which is why HULU TV, Fubo, UKposts TV and the others all seem to have one or two price increases a year. Heck even Netflix seems to do a yearly price increase now it seems. I do agree the big benefit for DirecTV Stream is the 89.99 package for those who like regional sports such as baseball and basketball since that is the only streaming service that still has regional sports channels the only other option is traditional cable packages.

My experience with DirecTV and the newer streaming product goes back decades. I was an early adopter when they were the first viable sat system, in the late 80's/early 90's. My long term impression of their level of concern for their customers boils down to two words: "fu*k them". They've been expensive, required complicated hardware, and didn't care how you felt about their treatment. So it's been good to see people bailing on them in huge numbers in recent years. They deserve it. That said, their tenure means that they have a channel lineup that more complete than most, which is why I stuck with them for streaming when I cut the cord a few years ago. But I've had it now with their frequent outages and delays. Watching the Bengals/Titans game the other day, they lost the signal for the last 5 minutes - and it wasn't my internet (I checked - it was strong as ever). What!!! Further, they don't have a Google TV app, which means I need an extra box on my new 77" Sony. So I'm testing UKposts TV right now against it, and liking what I see. There may be some guide-related features which are better on DirecTV stream, and UKposts TV doesn't have History (which I miss), but saying goodbye to DirecTV may be worth those little issues.

@@MichaelSaves I guess I'm not most people, I find the YTTV guide to be basically be useless. And don't get me started on the DVR, SMH. So much so, that I may just pay the higher price for the cable TV. Perhaps DirectTV is not the answer, but UKposts TV is definitely a step backwards IMHO.

Sorry about your issues. Everyone I know is making the mass exodus from Cable or Satellite to streaming services, with the majority passing on DTV Stream because it's the most expensive of the lot (not by that much in my opinion). I'm gonna save a bunch of money they say. And they will. But no service (YTTV, Hulu, Fubo) has a magic wand. Beware before you jump with the key channels each of the aforementioned services are missing, as slick as their platform may be. You Tube TV for example is a no go here in New England with sports alone. No RSN New England Sports Network, no Red Sox or watching the Bruins in their historic season. And no A&E, History, Lifetime/LMN, Science Channel or NHL Network, and there are more missing? Those are "cable" staples, I can't take the service seriously. And Fubo missing the Turners channels? You do get what you pay for.

I use to have DirecTV from the year 1995 til 2015, back when the music channels had paw prints and rain drops, and I loved it, but when prices increased I dropped them. Just wish there was a service that would let u pick and choose your channels for a set price, even if it costs more.

The problem with what you want is that the channel providers such as Discovery and Disney do not all the providers to do that. Your cable bill is like 10-15 a month for just ESPN doesn't matter if you watch it or not for example. And then they force the providers to purchase some lesser watched channels in order to get the 2 or 3 channels people want.

My Direct TV bill has gone up almost 20% from a year ago. Then went down by 5% and now up another 5% in the last 30 days. Their prices are all over the place but most important they have priced themselves out of our budget. Trying to talk to someone that understands what we are going through and fix the price fluctuations is almost impossible and time consuming. Being a customer of Direct TV for over 8 years you think you would get a break on price especially being a loyal customer who pays their bills on time. There was a time you could call in and ask for loyalty discounts but not any more. Dang, they are now higher than my local cable company. You would think with all the competition they would be willing to work with their established customers. Time to cut the satellite cable with DTV and try something else. FINALLY they fixed the guide and made it more like DIRECTV satellite's guide. Which is to say NORMAL. I tried it in July last year (when it was still AT&T TV) and that was my main gripe with the service. I'm gonna have to try the service again and see if it has gotten better in other areas too.

I cut the cable cord in October of 2021 and was paying for the unlimited DVR service. After the 1st of the year, when they started offering the DVR service free to new customers, I called to find out if they would just remove that from my bill but they refused. The customer support representative even suggested that I cancel and sign up for a new account. The only issues were 1) I had to use a different email address for the user id, and 2) Obviously I lost all of my DVR recordings, but those issues were no big deal to get rid of that $10 per mont fee.

Thanks for making the video Michael. I do like DirecTV Stream and what they're doing now but price is one of the major factor if not the only one. Do they even offer 4K? I know their satellite version do but I don't see any mention of this so far. They either need to lower their price some more or offer free 4K. At this point though YTTV is just way too good still for the price but only if they have the RSN for you though. I would take DTVS over HLTV anyday though just due to the unlimited DVR and picture quality.

@@MichaelSaves yeah I read about the SB not being in 4K. Shame on NBC for that really. I do know that the NBA is starting to broadcast their games on 4K that's why. I can't wait for my local NBC Sports RSNs to do the same for my team. This would be the only way for me to sub to the 4K add on for YTTV.

I tried it when it was still AT&T TV NOW, and I thought the picture and sound quality was excellent. I also liked the UI. I just feel that for $10.00 more the DVR should keep your recordings for at least 9 months, like UKposts tv does. Even Philo's unlimited DVR keeps your recordings for a full year.

Wow. That’s a lot to pay for TV. I say that because I cut the cable about a year ago and went with Sling for $35 mo., upgraded to $50 just for college football and basketball on ESPN. I’ll drop back down as soon as March Madness is over. No way I’d go back to paying those prices. When I dropped DTV satellite I was only paying $65 but the box rentals alone were $28 mo. Right now my heat bill is $120 a mo., electric about $50, water about $150 quarterly, all more important than TV. At some point people are really going to just snap and cut it all except for the free stuff. It’s interesting that this past weekend’s NFL games had some of the highest ratings while the NCAA bowl games - only on ESPN - had dropped ratings. Maybe people are just getting fed up with this stuff.

I think you're onto something. I personally like Sling TV a lot, but many people "want it all in one app" and DTV Stream or UKposts TV make more sense. I am glad you're saving money.

I tried Sling, and aside from missing a couple channel that were unavailable in any add-on or package, I liked it, but in order to get the rest of the channels that I want it would cost me $10.00 more than UKposts tv.

We started with ATT TV and had to make the switch to the DirectTV stream. We hate it! HATE IT! The app is ALWAYS timing out or buffering. I can run any other app on our TV and they work perfectly fine. Prime video - no issue, netflix - no issue etc. The only issue we have is DirectTV Stream. We have called several times and get told they are aware there is an issue but they have no estimate on when it will be fixed. I only have one other option for TV service and it is Spectrum. They have poor reviews for our area though.

One thing you should of pointed out. Directv Stream is the only service right now to offer Dolby Digital on almost ever channel. UKposts TV should have this too but they have been saying DD is coming for over two years.

Hi, Thanks for the video. I stream with AppleTV. Do you have to stream content through the DTV Stream app? Or can I just log in on various apps, with my DTV stream credentials to watch?

The apps with TV Everywhere will work with DIRECTV STREAM! So you could use your DTV STREAM login for those separate apps if you'd like.

I signed up last March with the Choice package that included HBO Max free for a year. It was 70 dollars for the first year. My promotions are ending on March 21st now my bill will be 140 dollars crazy! At the time I wasn't told it was a 2 year agreement. So if I want to cancel it will be 180 bucks smh. I called them yesterday to see if they could lower my bill, they said I'll have to wait until my promotions end on the 21st. I'm not paying 140 dollars I'll bit the bullet and pay the 180 to get out the contract before I pay 140 for the rest of the year.

the regional sports is literally the only reason I changed from Hulu Tv. THe only down I would say is that you cannot set up differnt profiles for each user in the house household

I been a customer for years and have a package that no longer exist. It was originally $35 now up to $80 a month. I called about switching to the Entertainment Package & was told I could under a new account but after a year the price will go up to $95. Haven't decided what to do yet if I'm just going to leave it or change service all together.

Yeah I have been a customers for years now too. They will only let me switch to a new account(aka email, password, username) to have a new plan. Otherwise my current plan and all existing plans are stuck on my account. Makes no sense to me to why they would do this. Why not just allow it to happen by turning off our account then reactivating it. Seems odd.

I think the issue for some DIRECTV stream customers like myself is, that in their infinite wisdom they decided they wanted to be more like the old Directv and initial customers got to sign a two-year service agreement. I am one of those. Otherwise, I would do exactly as you recommend and will have the opportunity to do so apparently six months before my contract ends. We’ll see but it is a good point.

I paid the early termination fee on my 2 year contract last April, which ended up costing me $120, but I was able to create a brand new account with no contract & got rid of that awful price hike in year 2 of the contract. AT&T even gave me a $100 gift card for being a longtime customer. Look into it.

I don't believe they're offering any 4k right now, but when I tried it before they recently changed the name, I thought the picture and sound quality were excellent.

hi there. we have directv now and considering the streaming. how is the QUALITY of the picture? that is the only thing we cant seem to find reviews on. with a lot of streaming services (apple tv, amazon prime, sometimes the quality is choppy and not as bright) thanks!!

Usually very good, but depends on your internet connection. Most channels are clear for me in 1080p. I would suggest a free trial of a service to see if it's up to your standards.

I love that it erases recordings after 90 days, because some of my family members leave recordings on there for 1 million years and it’s annoying.

I just subscribed to direct tv stream about 2 hours ago. I love it so far. It definitley feels like this is the best streaming app. I Chose the Ultimate package w/ 3 free months of movie channels and a streaming device. Im using the roku app while I wait for the streaming box but its still awesome on the roku app.

We also just dropped DirecTV, and switched to UKposts TV. Before we made the switch I looked at all the channels that we actually watch, and I could only find one (NHL channel) that we'd lose by switching. It's a no-brainer...and I still get to see all of Sharks games on our regional sports channel. Our monthly DTV was costing us $108, and was about to go up another $10. UKposts is $65, with no contract. Duh!

Good lord. Just got off the phone with DirecTV. I'm an 18 year subscriber, and the guy would not give me unlimited DVR at no extra cost. I mused that I don't understand a business model where the company is willing to not give me the same deal they would give to some schmoe off the street as a new customer, and that they evidently prefer zero revenue from me, when I cancel and go to one of the other streaming services.

Yeah it's truly unbelievable that's something so simple that cost them nothing to give you, because you're still getting the same monthly rate that you've been giving them each month. Again a new customer is not going to care whether the existing customer has the same unlimited DVR as they're getting. It's totally understandable that they want to plug it towards new customers because they want to gain business from competitors, however the existing customers are going to notice this and are going to want the same thing. Just give it up and give the unlimited DVR to existing customers now because you're probably going to have to do it at some point anyway. It's just horrible old thinking marketing. Did you mention that you may cancel the service to see what they would say?

I would like to see you review using the streaming box and remote. This service makes the most sense for users used to cable and unwilling to struggle with the Awkard multi step clicks to navigate most other streaming services. I think I can get my wife to sign on to this using the streaming box and remote. I cannot find any UKposts videos showing this topic.

The problem I have with directv stream is with their entertainment package you cant get the BTN network you still have to go to the $90 a month plan , "choice" package. The same package on their regular tv plan combo was going to cost me $145 a month . I tried to drop to the entertainment pack and add the sports pack to get the BTN , but they couldnt do it. BTW I can get by with a limited dvr storage. I will be going to youtube as you get the locals so I wont have to get an antenna. Can get the NFL, BTN, AND TCM channels too which I want.

I was going to switch from UKposts tv to Direct because of the regional sports so I could get Bally Midwest to watch the Cardinals. But when I checked to see the regional sports offerings for my zip, it was not listed. How much more Midwest can you get than Iowa? They lost a potential sure fire customer. There are zero legal options for watching live Cardinal games for my zip code on either cable, satellite, or streaming.

It seems high but if you do the math on normal cable after there 1 year discount on prices when they go up, directv stream is way cheaper, and you can take your channels everywhere where with cable your locked to your house, cable providers have apps but your limited to the channels your allowed access to out of the house, major difference that people don’t talk about, which can be a benefit

I have a streaming question. I have UKposts TV. I access it through a roku express. I get a lot of buffering. I regularly unplug the roku and my wifi to clear the cache. I even did a factory reboot on the roku. It doesn't help. This happens when I fast forward through commercials. Can you help?

What is your internet speed? Do you have issues with any other apps? Roku Express is the cheapest and least powerful Roku. If your internet speed from Speedtest.net checks out and you aren’t experiencing this with other apps, I wonder if you may benefit from a Roku Express 4K+ or higher. If someone you know has another device (Roku or otherwise), maybe they could loan it to you to test. I can’t say for sure unfortunately.

How is video quality on Direct Tv Stream compared to others? I have Hulu live now and have experienced buffering issues, especially on sporting events. Never had issues on UKposts tv with that. Also, have great internet speeds.

I think DIRECTV STREAM video quality is good. I just flipped between DTV STREAM and UKposts TV -- same to me. I don't have issues with Hulu Live regularly though.

Quality is generally pretty good and there are differences with certain channels though. I've noticed inconsistencies between different channels which is something they should iron out especially at the price point they're at.

Hi Michael - I appreciate all of your videos and information. I have been thinking about cord-cutting for many years but then convenience would win out and I wouldn't follow through. Right not I'm paying $208 monthly at Xfinity (for a triple-play plan including phone service which I don't use) and my contract ends in June. I'm seriously considering Directv Streaming as I'm a regional Boston Sports fan. I have an old 2007 Panasonic TV - my question is can I pair my old remote to use with Directv Streaming? Would it be worth to get a Roku Express 4K+ remote? Lastly could you do a video about mobile hotspots. I have been looking into the Netgear Nighthawk M1 mobile hotspot (costs range from 300-500 depending on if its new or refurbished). With a hotspot I could buy monthly data plan at AT&T for 100GB @ $55. I would appreciate your advice and feedback. Thank you so much

I think you will want a separate streaming device, whether it's a Roku Express 4K+ or another brand. The Roku model you mentioned lets you power on your TV and also control the volume. I'll get to work on your other suggestions!

Buy the fire stick instead because you get way more app choices than Roku and it cost cheaper to buy a fire stick and yes the DirecTV streams app is on the fire stick and the fire stick remote will pair with your tv too to to turn your tv off and on and the sound

I have had this service since 2015. I have stuck it out through all the name changes. I can honestly say it used to be better. Recently I found out there is an issue with older accounts being hacked. My account was one of those customers. I changed the username & password 6 times. I was on the phone for hours before they told me they are not able to secure my account and the best they could do is switch me over to a plan at higher rate or I could cancel. I canceled and went to hulu.

Maybe I did not hear you say it, but it includes "FREE HBO max". (10 dollar savings). I was using UKpostsTV but it only had a few streams available, this one has many more streams available at the same time. I am purchasing apple tv box or Roku for my living room but all other tv's are Samsungs in my house and will use the built in app.

With Direct TV Stream, old customers are not getting unlimited DVR. This offer is only for new customers. I don't know why they decided to leave old customers with 20 hours DVR. They know that old customers will register with new id as new customers. One point which is not mentioned that you can make two accounts with same credit card.

It really depends on your overall usage. Do you have a low data cap or one that's higher like 1TB? Should be fine with a higher cap

I still think unless you need regionals. UKposts TV is the best overall $5 cheaper price vs Direc Stream, and 20 more channels minimum. I'm not using it right now because I don't need it at the moment. But. When I have it. It's a bit over 100 channels for the base plan for my area. Sling is the best if you can get all the locals on antenna that you use, and don't need regionals. Speaking of antennas. Thanks for recommending mohu Leaf. My set up was good, but then I suddenly lost the stations I was picking up from Pittsburgh. I still don't know why, but. I got mohu, and picked back up everything I had, with a much more stable signal.

the issue is not with signing up the issue is with cancelling it. No contract but they charged me 131.06 early termination fee. called 3 different numbers, none can find any reason for it but still refuse to cancel the charge. still fighting with them now. same ols tricks from direct tv
