Written and produced by Annet Ndanema.
Annet Ndanema is from Moyamba, Sierra Leone. She is the mother of two year old twins, a girl called Rose and a boy, Ambrose. As well as being a mentor with Purposeful working with and for girls and leading a Girls’ Circle, she has felt supported to be independent, and how to manage finances.
Through the Circles of Us fellowship, she has loved being able to travel
and connect with other girls in Kenya who she never imagined interacting with. The impact for her has been about deepening her resistance and standing in solidarity with sisters across the Continent.
“My film is about a 14-year-old disabled girl in the Moyamba community, who lost her mother at 6 months old and who does not know her father. She is being raised by her grandmother and faces discrimination in school and in her community.
The bullying at school, combined with the struggle of her grandmother’s lack of finances, became so tough that she had stopped going to school regularly. The story tells of how Purposeful supported her, not just with the financial resources to go to school, but also giving her a social circle of girls she can rely on.”
