Interesting to see how they wire up things in other areas of the world. Here in Canada, we don’t have to throw a sleeve on the ground wire. Bare copper is already known to be the ground. Sometimes it has a green sleeve.

Gaz, I know they are £2 cheaprer than the Quickwire connectors but I think they are a bit DIIY for a professional spark, wouldn't you say? They look like an adapted version of the old chocbox.

Funny to see how other countries have different standards, here in Austria (🇦🇹) the ground wire has to be treated (and insulated) like a live wire

Interesting that the earth conductor doesn't have insulation on it and requires a sleeve. Here in Australia our TPS has it already done. Seems like a frustrating extra step to add

Here in Canada we don’t require such a thing. I’m not an electrician but I don’t understand why the sleeves are even necessary. Bare copper wire is always ground and we leave it bare in electrical boxes and junction boxes etc. The grounds in our wire is always uninsulated

Is there any particular reason the UK hasn't upgraded to having an insulated earth? I don't understand the advantage of having it bare, apart from saving like 3mm width in the cable.

For good reason, some people use them anyways, then when the connections become lose, GL finding that box to reconnect the wires. If the box is close to the fixture, that's not really hiding it...

Do you hardwire all your downlights? In Australia we usually have a flex and plug on them and have unswitched sockets in the roof so they just plug in. Some sockets are quick connects which use IDC termination so very quick to install.
