I wish he'd continued talking about that Ark Museum, especially about how it eventually went to blame the town itself, amongst others, for the failures it had, and even attempted to avoid paying that taxes afterwards by selling itself... to a nonprofit branch also owned by Ken Ham... for a few dollars. It backfired, of course, but it was the thought that they could get away with it that counts.

I live in the county that built that ark and it has only hurt. There's been some jobs and some tourist but there's no hotels and the businesses around see almost no extra traffic because it was built a mile away from the town so you get off of the interstate and go in the completely wrong direction so nobody patrons anything other than the Ark and a small Mexican restaurant just off the highway

A big problem is companies want part time employees with full time availability and they only want to pay them 8$ an hour. There are literally places around me who have been hiring for months with no success because of this.

I have been to the Ark Encounter, and I learned some things. 1. There are a large number of old people working as janitors, all of which will tell you to go to the Ark's website. 2. The Ark's website is full of shit. 3. There were dinosaurs on the Ark, but only the little ones. No word on the elephants.

What's crazy is that with all these intelligent financial decisions, I don't know how we are in crippling debt. The mystery continues I guess.

He's phenomenally right - I live in Missouri let me tell you how these incredibly stupid programs work and ultimately bankrupt your rural town. We had Triumph food processing move into town as an incentive we gave them basically tax free building for a decade AND we helped them with the cost of building. In return we were supposed to get jobs but instead they began flying people in from all over the world. No kidding they have subsidized housing for dozens of people from Guatemala and Laos while providing very few jobs to the people who actually live here. These incentive programs look great on paper but when you actually crunch the numbers they are costing our city thousands maybe millions in jobs and taxes. Don't get me started on the incredible incentives we offer retailers to move here and offer crap wages and no benefits. WTF DO WE GIVE INCENTIVES TO FUGGIN RETAILERS?!?!?! This is exactly why rural America looks and feels like it's dying because of these idiotic programs. Instead of begging global companies to move in we need to start offering incentives, loans and tax breaks to homegrown businesses. Seriously - if Wal mart was forced to pay taxes we'd be raking in the money and if they took their ball and went home do you honestly believe my town would just stop buying toilet paper? Heck no! Ma and Pa toilet paper companies would spring up left and right and Capitalism would be brought back to the glory Adam Smith first invisioned instead of this mutated kill rural America version of global capitalism we have today. Don't forget Ken Ham sold the Ark Encounter land to himself (his second non profit organization who's only purpose is funding his for profit businesses) for 10 dollars to avoid paying the safety tax, which was only even necessary because of the ark encounter. He also agreed not to have discriminatory hiring practices in exchange for getting taxpayer funding. He went ahead with the discrimination and chastity oaths anyway. When Kentucky tried to take their money back, he sued and won. He claims his for profit businesses as for profit or non profit, whichever one benefits him the most at the time. If this were not a religious organization, the IRS would have eaten him alive by now. But even though the same rules apply to religious non profits that apply to ALL non profits, the IRS isn't allowed to go after a church or religious organization unless it's initiated by someone with "sufficient rank" and there's undisputable evidence. And people think they need to defend church from government oversight.... please.
