I get what you are saying, but I suspect the SEALs were allegedly not happy with this decision because he did not use team tactics. Kamikaze tactics are generally not considered honorable in the Western tradition. I think there is another side to this.

What bugs me is that his team leader was also awarded a MoH in this engagement. But, as proven by the video footage, Chapman was abandoned, and then fought on ALONE until killed!! Why was his leader awarded a MoH - when he was nowhere in sight after acknowledging a SEALs wounds (and leaving the dead PO too) in "abandoning their position" at 5.02??

I'm an ex British serviceman and I just wanted to add my sincerely admiration and total respect to this extremely brave, selfless, American USAF Special Forces Airman, Combat Controller, going far beyond the call of duty in his sense of duty to his comrades from the Seal Team. I'm not here to comment on anything else about it or, talk about why the action progressed as it did. I wasn't there and neither was anyone else there, that's commenting here. I think you are making this too emotional. He had severe blood-loss and probably wasn't thinking that much. The narrator says he Chapman heard the 2nd chinook coming. As a former Airman, I have nothing but the highest respect for my fellow Airman, MSgt. Chapman. I've seen this video about 6 times now and it never gets any easier to watch knowing that he was alone. I know the SEALs were under fire, but to know they left Chapman is in a way maddening to me. I know it was hell for everyone but still. Took the Army to complete the mission and rescue the SEALs and recover Chapman and PO Neil Roberts. We should all be grateful to Chapman for his heroism and undying loyalty to his teammates.
@brainoverbrawn3404
@brainoverbrawn3404 Рік тому
The most disgusting part of the whole ordeal is not even the mistakes the SEAL team-6 guys made, it's the desperate efforts to cover it up afterwards. It's quite plausible that the SEALs had mistaken the dead body of the original SEAL they came to rescue for Chapman as they retreated under duress. Clearly, the team leader was not aware that a drone had captured the events of that night, because some of his claims were just false. Instead of the Navy to acknowledge the mistakes and move on, they disputed the notion that Chapman was left behind alive, and they did everything possible to frustrate the Airforce's attempt to get Chapman's awards upgraded to the Medal of Honor. At a point, the SEALs even went as low as disparaging Chapman by saying he went against orders and jeopardized the mission when he charged out of the helicopter and took off to engage the enemy on his own. The SEALs were on that ridge for all of 3-minutes before retreating, Chapman fought there all night. The Army lost 3-Rangers in their fight to retrieve Roberts and Chapman, all because the SEALs botched the original mission in which Roberts was lost. Yet, all these guys were worried about was protecting their reputation.

Fight, Flight, or Freeze. Your sympathetic nervous system doesn't care what you think you should be doing. I don't fault the guys who curled up into a ball. Not saying you do, just saying I don't. Their brains just weren't wired for soldiering. There's strategies for overcoming the sympathetic nervous system response when it's not productive, but I'm not sure the military teaches them. The guys who curled up could have probably used some of that training.

A good friend of mine was in 1st SFG and swore that these CCTs were the scariest one man armies out there. They could shoot and move, HALO, HAHO, dive, and the scariest part was that they were air traffic control towers with just a couple radios. Much respect to MSgt. Chapman and additionally the other 21 CCTs that have paid the ultimate price for freedom.

This hurts to watch, I have nothing but the highest thoughts and respect for this man, these types of men are by far the face for the word hero and the word unselfish. Such bravery deserves nothing but the best and the heroism should be recognized by anyone and honored. MSG Chapman, I salute you! Edit: Every situation is different and every person is different, from my experience those that can do things like this is the ones that are at peace with themselves and that knows that when there are none or close to no way out they give it all and have the mindset of causing as much damage as possible and just give every breath they still have in them. It is easy for "us" in the couch to talk the talk but for those of us with years in the military and several deployments and combat situations probably understand my point or what I try to say. The bottom thing imo is that only if you're at peace with yourself and can accept the "shittery" you're in can go that extra mile, sometimes you win but most often you lose so if you can save a friends life in the process that will be the reason to bring out that strength. R.I.P warrior.

There’s a lot of controversy over this due to the fact that Naval Special Warfare command wanted to block his Medal of Honor bc it would mean admitting to leaving him behind. The team leader also received the MOH for his actions on Roberts Ridge but ultimately no fault to his own he did leave him behind and he has mentioned it has haunted him and continues to haunt him probably for the rest of his life. Another Air Force man who was a pararescueman which is the military’s best combat medics was given the Air Force Cross just under the MOH for his actions of treating wounded while at the same time fighting off enemy combatants, he was shot in I believe the liver or some vital organ and refused treatment to himself to treat his rangers. Jason Cunningham died 30 minutes before he was extracted. His MOH upgrade has been reviewed many times over.
