It will be if 5090 becomes 512 bit bus, 5080 will become 384 bit bus like 90 tier card. Meaning the 5080 could become 20-24GB, while 5090 will have twice the memory 40-48GB. Because if you look at the Blackwell datacenter GPU, which Jensen has shown us and it has two GPU dies. Like any other 102 (90 tier/titan card) has biggest die, and they're basically always same for consumer as well. So if datacenter GB102 has two dies GB202 will have also, this could mean you get twice the memory but also 2x price. Since 90 tier card are always out of stock they're going to increase the prices so much that not everyone can but it. This leads the 5080 to become a 90 tier card (only if it's 384 bit) and it will have 20-24GB n not more due to faster memory GDRR7. If Blackwell architecture has increase bit bus: 5090 would be then $2599-2799 5080 would be then $1799-1999 5070 would be then $ 999-1099 5060 would be then $ 699- But if 5090 remains 384 bit bus 5090 would be $1799 5080 would be $ 999 5070 would be $ 699 5060 would be $ 499

32gb it needs. Even if I had money to blow I would not be buying these memory gimped overpriced cards. They aren't gonna give proper ram sizes until PS6 launch forces them to in 2028 with 7000 series. I expect them to do same 12gb/16gb/24gb bs for 5000 and 6000 series.

@@Toshinben Meh, used market might be more of a gamble than some of these ""off-brand"" Chinese manufacturers. it's hard to know whether something on an eBay listing was used by a crypto miner for 4 years, and *many* people still price their old junky hardware as if it just came out last week. On the other hand, I got an "MLLSE" RTX 3060 (12GB) from Aliexpress for $220 incl. tax (on sale) and it worked perfectly out of the box with drivers straight from Nvidia's website. Granted, I don't have a fucking clue what their warranty support is like (I think its only 1 or 2 years too) and hopefully I won't have to find out, but I'm pretty sure I would get no help from Asus/Gigabyte/MSI or even NVIDIA if I bought one of their cards used on eBay and it broke 6 months from now.

@@rhadiem logically I know that but I also know 2 people who got burned buying used mining cards which had a ton of issues after. One sent it in for a repair and ended up replacing a faulty memory chip, the other just cut his losses. I guess not everybody maintains them well or keeps a close enough eye on thermals for their entire lifespan- some of which may have a couple years of near constant uptime- and so there’s definitely some miners out there hocking garbage to unsuspecting people. Edit- but yeah I get your point, if you’re on a budget and not looking at much higher end cards that would still fetch a lot, ofc used is still the way to go.

5080 will be 900 to 1000. The 4000 seriez was overpriced becauze nvidia had an entire generations left of old stock of the 3000 series. Thats not the case this time around.

Why not? They did lower some of the cards in the 40 series. 3080ti $1200 to 4080S $1000 They know they've hit the limit how far they can push. The 5080 can't go for much more than $1000, making the 5090 not being able to get past $2000. Above there it would just be terrible value, even including the 'best of the best tax'. Even if it's 60% better. Especially since the 5080 is predicted to be enough for 4k, where in the 4000-series only the 4090 true 4K card. So why pay more for the 5090 if you can do the same on the 5080? Nvidia has to come with something good again, and they've done it like this before. 1000's and 3000's were great, 2000's and 4000's sucked. The 2000's and 4000's are just 'filler' products, just to put something out and pretend they are 'innovating'. 1000's, 3000's & 5000's are the cards that are really meant to sell well and come with improvement. It's just how business works. Make one suck so the other looks better.

Fir $1,500-2,000 I don't want to worry about it. Especially when more power over a smaller connector doesn't pass the smell test. And a large graphics card having a plug with a wire that likely needs to be bent sharper than manufacturer specs to fit in a common case doesn't pass the common sense test.

Honestly it could be a really good marketing move for nvidia if they reverted prices pretty similar to like 30 series sorta because I feel like they really didn’t put a ton into the 40 series like with them only releasing a slightly better super version and stuff but if they then make the 50 series a crazy performance leap AND a good price drop people will see it and they would guaranteed fly off the hook but might not even be necessary if they already have enough “team green for life” type fans that will sell everything out either way, but I can guarantee they will steal over probably a fair few amd fans if they did it like that

Agreed, that's what would make the more sense. Not only are mid-end GPUs getting seriously vram-starved by newer games, but as local AI inference for consumers is becoming a thing (see e.g. LLaMa 3, stable-diffusion 3.0, etc.), the need for more VRAM becomes increasingly strong in that regard too.

Graphics for me no longer excite me. They have reached a point where they are good enough to impress to a high level, wouldn't really miss the extra detail and FPS...60fps/120fps on my 4080 High Settings is more than fine for me.

Nvidia doesn't care about consumer GPUs, most of their revenue is from AI now to enterprise. That's what makes the entire situation so tricky. Sure the poor volume and lower revenue for GPUs would be a problem if that was their main or even substantial revenue stream, but it's literally just a small fraction, it's almost like a rounding error to them. They actually could probably drive higher revenue by dropping consumer GPUs entirely, and either letting those employees go or reassigning them and manufacturing resources into database AI.

50xx has a new function like DLSS where they change the texture usage so for new games you only need like 4gb VRAM with the new stuff so 12/16 is more than enough

Nvidia has the market locked up and is not hurting one bit. There is no way they will keep the 5080 low in retail if it’s beating the 4090. Maybe not the 1200 but 1100. People will still be mad as they just compare numbers on cards. They all seem to be large jumps again.

I like and use NVidia cards extensively. I just wish they'd put more VRAM in all their cards. It makes a big difference to the kind of AI models that can be expected to run locally on the average computer. In other words, if you'd like future games to take advantage of AI in any significant way, you better start thinking about lots more VRAM in lower end cards.

Also nvidia is already the best card for the job bc they have tensor cores and Cuda cores that destroy amd in these workloads. And they're giving you the fastest vram available unlike amd with gives you garbage vram that's got half the bandwidth. So why do you want more vram? You could have said you want faster workstation performance but you specifically said vram. You understand that vram use scales with lots of things like memory bandwidth, memory speed and overall GPU speed? So 8 gigs of vram on a pascal card is going to behave wildly different than 8gb on a blackwell card. It's silly and incorrect to say you want more vram for future proofing. Bc if your gpu I garbage at AI workloads all the vram in the world wont help you.

GB202 384-bit GB203 320-bit GB205 256-bit GB206 192-bit GB207 160-bit That would be nice to see and should address the bandwidth bottlenecks that RTX 40 suffered, especially for the entry level and midrange GPUs. Performance also scales much better when there is an ample amount of bandwidth to leverage the cores effectively. While cache can help alleviate bandwidth bottlenecks, it can only do that to an extent. Wider memory buses and faster memory should definitely be top priorities for next gen GPUs.

Running a 3080ti and I need more VRAM to run VR games through the UEVR mod. Discount 4090 or jump on a 5080/90 and ride that for the next few years? I feel like the 50 series is more anticipated than all the previous gens, or maybe I'm just buying into the hype.

I think you are way too generous with the 5060 expectations. Here in Europe they are still selling new gaming laptops with 3060 cards. Why would Nvidia give so much performance, when people are still buying the lowest specced cards two generations back?!? I believe the 5000 series will be around 30-50% up in most specs, which would produce a real life performance improvement of about 15-30%.

I've been dreaming of more CUDA cores for years. Since I got my 1080ti. For some reason, I felt the prices vs perf of 20, 30 and 40 series wasn't worth it. I have high hopes for the 50 series in term of cores and prices so I can update my gaming rig, which also serves me as scientific calculation platform that is using CUDA cores only.

Since they will already be using 3Gb modules on the 5060, I'm guessing the 5070 ti, and maybe 5060 ti as well, will be 192bit 18Gb cards. Although, if they want to clamshell the 5060 ti with 128bit and 24Gb, I'd be really interested in that one for production and Ai workloads.

@@AwankO Sure, it's not ideal. But with ddr7, the bandwidth is significantly improved of the previous generation 128bit cards. That aside, it would still be a lot faster than offloading those workloads into system memory (if that's even an option). It would also be 1/3 to 1/4 the price of other 24Gb Nvidia cards. If you need the vram capacity but only have ~$400-500, It would actually be a good option.

my next upgrade is set to be a 4070 Ti super, or possibly the 5070 but not with 12gb, maybe 5080 depending on price, Im currently running a 3060 12gb, and I want at least 16gb on my next card, and no I'm sorry I just don't want a AMD card, plus they tend to use more vram for the same task so to me 16gb on AMD is like 12gb on Nvidia.

There will be 50 series refresh with the 3 gb modules. FYI that'll mean 12gb GPU will rerelease as 18gb GPU. It may be a year later but they are most certainly producing those chips currently so what else would they be for? This also tells us that it will be quite a while before the lower end 5060 releases because those 3gb modules are not ready yet. Everyone is going to hate on Nvidia for not waiting for 3gb modules across the lineup but hey . It's Nvidia. What do you expect but getting shorted VRAM for the 4th gen in a row. 1070 was fine with 8 GB but every newer 70 class GPU has been crippled with that VRAM config

The vram capacities on these cards look terrible, ouch... In a world where we need more than ever, the amount of vram used in games is accelerating dramatically, and now AI drawing Vram as well until some kind of powerful dedicated system or card is released.... painful. I would hope for 20 gigs on the 5080, 16 gigs on the 5070 and 12 on the 5060. And that, is minimum, not preferred. We should be seeing 24 on the 5080 and 20 on the 5070... Especially since vram isn't that terribly expensive. And of course, they better be at a half decent deal... If they're the same price as the current generation with barely any more video memory, that is going to be deeply unfortunate.

My 4070 is likely dying after tanking two heavy assed surges, and YES I'm using a surge protector. Too bad I accidentally removed the warranty sticker. Hopefully it will last until 5070 comes out, or else I'd be forced to switch to amd's 7800xt because of lack of budget.

Ugh! AI is coming fast. 16gig vram is fine for most games but we'll be doing more than just games. And 16gig when doing AI on our PCs (not to mention AI actually in games) will take more. At $1000, I expect to keep a card for a decade and 16gig isn't going to let me do that. If one upgrades often, it's fine. But who can afford to do that?

256 alu per sm without dropping clockspeeds no chance dual issue is not possibel due to the fact that nvidia has a native fp32 architecture it is possibel like amd did but this means double datapath in the shader each alu has then 128bit (actual 64bit) this will increase shader/alu size to 3 times no way this will happend. The alu has enough to do, the problem with ada architecture is to fill rt core with work solution more alu per sm no change in alu itself needed therefor linear increase in alu per sm and linear size increase with small density change (20%) clockspeed reduced because of more alu per mm² expect 1,8ghz on samsung sf4x and 2,3ghz on tsmc n4x node N3 could be 2,6ghz. but if 256alu per sm is true fact double ada arch will be a bald move include more sm per gpc (24) gb207 could be rtx5070 (+- 30tf/42tf) 5060 should be a rebrand ada chip and drop late 2024 amd never reach near as rtx5070 and the prices goes up rtx5070 750€ /670$ amd rx8700xt (64cu 3,1ghz 16gb) 449$ vs rtx5060ti (ad104 56sm) 459$ nvidia will be alone at this point high prices incomming with gb207 chip vs amd n31 sad times.

I most likely will have to upgrade my PSU(750W) to a 1000W or even 1200W for this upgrade no matter what 5000 series card I end up getting, assuming I can obtain one as well it not being overly priced knowing NVIDIA being greedy as usual, maybe even settle for a 4070TI SUPER or 4080/90 if their prices drop due to the 5000 series being released if they turn out to be disappointing in terms of price to performance like the 4000 series was

*Sheesh back in 2021 i argued we had a lack of Vram and lookey here 12 to 18gigs max for all cards outside of the $1509-$2200 90 series wtf here is what the configs should look like 50 series=10gigs 60=12/16gigs 70=16/18gigs 80=18/22gigs and lastly 90=32gigs to 36gigs more Vram with a lower clock speed sorts out the Connector issues and gives more value for the clients as in all of them*

You're right. In my case I love Witcher and cyberpunk, CDPR, which are NVIDIA showcases for RT. I'm not really obsessed with the features too much, but love CDPR studios which are in the pocket of nvidia. I was torn, I purchased a new gpu around black friday 2023 and the 4080 was $300 more than saphhire 7900 xtx for 16gb versus 24gb vram on the 7900 xtx. I wasn't spending $1250 plus for 16gb vram or minimally $300 more for RT.... it's really not worth it at that point. I like games that utilize it, but it's under utilized and too much a hit on FPS. If the 5080 had 20gb vram I would consider selling my card to get it. NVIDIA seem to only give enough VRAM to encourage upgrading each gen these past few generations/ ever since 1080ti. So many burnt 3080 and 3070 owners who paid thousands during covid(which I was not one) and their company is grossly over valued as are their products.

My prediction for the 5080, $999 because they know damn well 80 series card is a flop above $1000. This is why we're getting a heavily cut down card as it seems. It will probably be more on par with the 4090. Essentially it's what a 70 series would normally be. This way they please people wanting the 80 series to be under $1000 but they're actually not giving us as much as a jump in performance that we would normally get. So yeah 256 bit with 16gb once again and around 4090 for $999. Not much of for jump for an 80 series owner but the price doesn't get a jump either so I think it would sell well at that price. Even though it's basically a 70 series card with a higher price. That makes the most sense to me imo. They appear like the good guys while giving us less. That's the nvidia way lol. If its $1200 and still around the same performance as the 4090 it will flop once again, I don't think nvidia will make the same mistake again
