Most shop sound systems lack something important: a subwoofer for proper bass! I've been wanting to increase the bass performance of my shop sound system, but how can I build a box? What can I power it with that can plug into the wall? Will everything rattle or can I prevent it?
NOTE: I misspoke in this video, the subwoofer is a JL Audio 10W3. Not a 10TW3 (which is the shallow mount version). Both are great subs!

Great video Mark. It's a must have in the shop for me. Music isn't music without the bass, and you can't get in a groove the same way. It looks great in that spot. If you do a cover, I personally would wanna see the woofer. What about using steel mesh and painting it white or chrome so it looks like a vent? Just my opinion. Flawless work sir, bass on! Can't wait to see the Jetta build.

You do such beautiful work. I literally just made a much sadder version of a shop subwoofer for my garage and wedged it in a cabinet. I have a Dayton audio 200w plate amp pushing a very old MTX 10 Thunder 6000. It's not much but it really wakes up my music in the garage. Also instead of a dedicated stereo I just have a couple Google Chromecast audio pucks, one plugged into some powered bookshelf speakers and another plugged directly into the sub amp. I then just made the two Chromecast Audio devices into a group. It actually works really well though.

I see since the sub is low in the cabinetry there may a chance of accidentally hitting that sub location with feet, or long pieces of wood, rolling tools, etc... I nice white MDF panel with a white painted steel mesh would be my vote. Please try mounting the mesh in so that the edges of the mesh are turned 90deg. and fit into the face of the MDF panel. corner pieces may strengthen the box, but the real reason acoustically is to help the sound move around a corner and through the port, as apposed to bouncing directly back at the speaker. sound waves flow like water, which is why the best boxes take fluid dynamics into account.

For the power supply, you could look into computer or even server stuff. I'm currently running an HSTNS-PL18 750W power supply paired with an Audiobank F43 amp and it works wonders. Those power supplies can be get on ebay for as little as 10USD so they are a safe bet. As i usually do this kind of crap, i bought a joblot of 10 of them for even cheaper, 4USD a pop, but either way they are very cheap and very silent for this kind of applications.

White grille cloth would be great. I would suggest you go the PA amp route. Plugs right into the wall with 120v, no need to mess with ac/dc power supply nonsense. Some reputable brands are Crown and QSC.

Speaking of old equipment, do you have a video on using old speakers? Anything you should look for? Can you still run the RMS wattage? I have two Rockford fosgate RFZ2410. I want to use them but wonder if there’s any precautions to take. I also have a hole in one of the surrounds. Do you have different recommendations for repair? I saw that people just use a foam sheet and just glue a patch to the surround. Can I get away with that at such a low wattage speaker or would completely replacing the surround by the only option? Thanks!

You can modify a server rack PSU to convert 110v ac or 240v ac to 12 v DC 100+ amps to power a car amp for that woofer. Second hand server PSU units are super cheap as there are lots around

Love the Videos. I’m building a custom golf cart with a huge system. Learning from you has definitely improved my skills. Check out the 100 watt power max inverter on Amazon. That’s what I use in my test bench. Hope you hit that 500k mark soon.

I don't have that many tools to make the box at home πŸ˜• if you can answer my questions would be greatly appreciated thanks
