So today reviews went live of the RTX 4070 Ti Super; yes, a silly name, but overall a decent improvement on the original RTX 4070 Ti, which was the same roughly; honestly too high $800, but a little slower and sporting 4GB less VRAM, at just 12, but believe it or not this GPU is a far cry from the graphics card we could have gotten if things had played out just a little bit differently
Yes, in an alternate hellscape reality Nvidia had plans for an entirely different graphics card based on the RTX 4070 Ti that many watching this have probably completely forgotten about, but pepperidge farms remembers, and that GPU was the RTX 4080 12GB.
Now Nvidia seems to have done everything possible to push this thing under the rug, so in case you have forgotten, according to tech powerup this GPU was identical to the RTX 4070 Ti in every way except for price.
Now personally I thought the RTX 4070 Ti price was already awful, but believe it or not, the 4080 12GB was even worse, coming in at an astoundingly absurd roughly $900.
Now if that doesn’t sound insulting, your probably the type of guy who’s been seeing the same mechanic that keeps changing your car’s ball bearings each month and leaving a tip, but for me I think the naming was the worst part, sure the price was definitely bad, but to call it a 4080 is absolutely absurd, because remember the RTX 3080 was cut down from the RTX 3090 GPU die and was sporting a 320 bit bus, whereas theis “RTX 4080 12GB” was cut down from a GPU Nvidia would normally use for a 70 class card except it gets even worse, because they used just a 192bit bus, which is something you might expect to see on maybe a 60 class card.
In fact the last GPU that used a 192bit bus was the RTX 3060, which need I remind you was about $330 upon release. So to call the RTX 4080 12GB more of a 60 class card, honestly wouldn't be too far of a reach, and thus we saw a 60 class configuration increase in price by nearly 3X in just one generation.
Now to be fair the 4080 12GB and 4070 Ti do have far more performance, and other features which make them worth much more, and despite the 192bit bus personally I would classify them more as a 70 class card, but even if we are to throw away past GPU comparisons and simply look at how bad the 4080 12GB would have been in today’s market, I think this’ll help highlight not only how insane Nvidia was for thinking they could get away with that graphics card, but also that the 4070 Ti also sucked.
For example take a look at this RTX 4070 Ti Super review from Techspot. As you can see despite the upgrade to 16GB, in terms of actual performance and cost per frame it’s really not that much better, at least for now where most games run fine on 12GB.
However if we are to insert the RTX 4080 12GB you can see that this GPU would have been the second worst current gen GPU to be released in terms of cost per frame making the already bad 4070 Ti even worse. Not an easy feat.
Now I think there’s two different ways to look at this graph. You can either compare what Nvidia wanted the 4070 Ti to be to vs what we have now with the 4070 Ti Super, and come to the conclusion that they were out of their minds, but the value still isn’t that good, or what I believe is the more accurate comparison would be to compare it to the regular non Ti, RTX 4070 Super.
Sure the 4070 Super is a bit slower, but other than a few less shaders this GPU is essentially identical to what the 4080 12GB would have been including the same amount of memory, but the biggest difference is the price. The 4070 Super comes in at $600 which is a massive $300 lower than what the 4070 Ti would have originally launched at, named as the 4080 12GB, and is giving near identical performance.

@@SaradominOSRS You don't have a clue what you're talking about. Yes it was. The GTX 580 was £400 on release which adjusted for inflation would be £591.34 (€691.48) today. The above person is correct. I got my GTX 1080 a few years back new for €570, which calculating for inflation is still only €683 today. The cheapest RTX 4080 right now on Caseking is 1270 Euro, almost twice the price even with inflation calculated for. And the 4070ti isn't "super high end". The 4090 is super high end, the 4080 is high end and the 4070ti is upper mid range. Shows how warped you new gamers are when you think a 70 series card, even a ti model is "super high end". You don't know what it is to have a normal priced graphics card.

They cut the cache to 48MB from 64GB. It’s the same as the 4070S. It should I have never been assumed it was closer to a 4080. Using the 103 die fooled everyone.

Money grabs are not good but people don't use common sense anymore. I would pass on the Super series and just wait til the 50 series forcing Nvidia to price next gen accordingly right out of the gate

@@theandroids I just hope that at least the 5060 will be on GB106 instead of continuing to use 107-class dies with 60-class cards like they did with the 4060. I probably won't buy it myself (looking most forward to entry-level RDNA 4 or RDNA 5, depending on how long I can tolerate this RX 6600), but at least it wouldn't be a complete rip-off for those who do get it.

I would say it’s basically a vanilla RTX 4070 TI but with 16GB VRAM instead of 12GB. This should have been the RTX 4070 super.

Point of clarification: Customers' ability to lower GPU prices is limited because of all the AI research going on. I know many of you have seen pictures on Twitter from presidents of AI startups who show themselves purchasing hundreds of high-end GPUs for use in their AI research. Obviously, I would never buy an Nvidia GPU with prices as high as they are right now, but that doesn't mean the AI companies won't.

Consumers seem to get the dies that didn't make it to AI cards because of minor flaws. Realistically, gamers and prosumers ought to be able to budge the price. My contentions is: why is Nvidia so insistent on high prices and poor ram allotment when retail now represents so much less profit? Just like mining, AI demand will fall, and Nvidia will need gamer loyalty to keep turning a profit.

2:15 Normally 300mm 192 bit is 60 class The only time 300mm was used for anything more than a 60 class was the GTX 1070/1080 and GTX 670/680 The 60 brand is a bit less stable than the 70/80 brand. While 80 is almost always 500mm, and 70 is either cut down 500mm, or a die of its own around 400mm, the 60 brand is sometimes a cut down 400mm, like the 2060 and 3060TI, and sometimes a 50 class die like the GTX 960 at around 200mm(half the size of the 970 at 400mm) yea, everyone hated the GTX 960, surprized thy didnt have the same feeling about the 4060TI, its almost a shot for shot repeat, same die size, same memory bus, only 2-4x more memory. However, with the 960, you could often pick it up for under $180, even the 4GB model, where as the 16GB 4060TI is still often over $450. Yea inflation, but why is it that GPUs are the only parts that seem affected by inflation. CPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSDs, they're all around the same price for around the same reletive performance and features. But not GPUs. I bought a high end PC back in 2010, CPU costed slightly more, motherboard oddly costed less, RAM about the same, SSD waaay less(low end no name 128GB at the time was like $200, now a name brand high end 2TB is $100) So why is the ~300mm 192 bit GPU that has many of these parts in comon with the parts above, $800, and not $229 For 10 years the ~300mm 192 bit card hovered around 200-$400, but in a single generation it jumped from $329, to $900? while in that same generation the 600mm 384 bit card went from $1500, to a whopping(checks notes) only $1600? Why is the 4070TI $800 and the 4090 not $3600? This math does not add up.

2:40 I completely ignore comparrisons when i am classifying a card. I look at the maximum die size, and the minimum die size With 600mm being the "maximum" die size of the 40 series, that puts the 12GB 4080 at quite literally at the exact middle. Used to be that 30 was the smallest, so the middle spec would mean the 12GB 4080, should have been given the middle class name of the 4060/TI Now that 4060 is replacing the 30 branding, i guess it makes sense as a 4070TI but i dont like it, names used to mean things, now they're just giberish

Nvidia could have gotten away with calling the 4070ti Super a 4080 and selling it for $799 back in 2022'. They could have then called the 4080 a 4080ti. It would have made it feel better for being $1199. After all, the 4080 is quite a bit faster than a 3090.

Even the 4080 is 500 dollars over the 3080 3 years ago. And even with the Super price cut it's still 300 dollars over. Even with the price cut it is 43% more expensive! And without the price cut it was 72% more expensive than the 3080. This is a freakin' joke. They deserve ZERO praise. None! Meanwhile the gap between the 3060 Ti and the 3090 Ti when compared to the 4060 Ti and the 4090 has DOUBLED! FREAKIN' DOUBLED! We aren't getting the same performance spread. The performance is there in this node, they just aren't giving it to us.

The new super cards are definitely a step in the right direction with lower prices. The 4070 TI Super should age better than the 4070 TI with the larger memory bus. Kind of curious about the 4080 super personally but saving up for next gen.

5:49 While i do not like the 40 series as a whole other than the 4090(the only card in the generation that wasnt down at least a full die tier yet also escaped the massive price increase) the 4070 Super is sitting at the exact price i said would be fair for this ~300mm 192 bit 4nm based GPU after accounting for increased cost of the node, and inflation, over the price of the 12GB 3060, and i mean EXACTLY the price i said it should be to maintain the same margins as the 12GB 3060(well i gave it a range and its directly in the middle of the $100 range)

@@ObakuZenCenter To be fair, the 4070 through 4070TI cost roughly the same to manufacture on this large of a scale, so selling the 4070 Super at $599 confirms that the 4070TI could have sold for the same price and IIRC these parts costed less at launch so maybe could have been on my low end estimate of $549 for the 4070TI

Can you imagine if they went through with the 4080 12GB and then "refreshed" it to the 4080 Super (now with 16GB) and it performs FAR WORSE than a regular 4080 16GB. They wanted to screw over consumers by releasing a 4080 Super that performs worse than a 4080 16GB at launch. It would have been even more horrific than what we're seeing.

Truth is the 4080 super is only a frame or 2 better than the original so you really aren't getting a deal plus it will be as high as the original MSRP doesn't exit anymore

Im not happy with either companies cards, they got greedy, I will wait for RDNA 4, hopefully AMD will do the right thing this time and give value for money...we need enough ram. The 8600 with 12gb of GDDR 7 would be nice for the entry level card at 280USD or something.

It’s the THE RTX 4070TI 16GB as it performs exactly the same, other than it has 4GB more VRAM. Yeah Nvidia Give me $200 off that stupidity named GPU for me to even to consider it. For now I’m aiming for the AMD 7900XT which I am hoping will get a price drop to $650. Along with the AMD 7900XTX getting a price drop to $800.

The reason i simply cannot switch to AMD yet, is how horrible the raytracing performance is. That and their high-end raster is never the highest. Recent analysis has shown that if you throw out NVIDIA and AMD sponsored game titles, the 7900xtx has the raytracing performance a bit worse than a 4070 Super. I spend a lot of my entertainment center, my rig and immersive setup. Im sorry, but i just cannot justify that level of performance

The "Super" cards are still overpriced. Simple as that. Nvidia is so focused on performance (and in desperate need to find some way to use those old 4080 12GB cards they scrapped after rightfully harsh criticism), they forgot that games still require a lot of VRAM, and it'll only get worse with time.

Still too expensive. I only have one kidney to sell... and it was sold for a 20 series card so no kidneys left to sell... It is time to drop the prices. The entire Nvidia lineup is still between 100 and 600$ too expensive. The entire AMD lineup is still between 100 and 300$ too expensive. Both Nvidia and AMD should try to get back down to earth and come in contact again with the gaming community. I hope nobody buys either companies gpus so they are stuck with them... send a message that way. Let's hope Battlemage lives up to its promises and drag down the prices when launched.

Not true, if we don't buy, NVIDIA will just repurpose all the GPUs for AI use. NVIDIA doesn't care about the gamer at this point.

Or, just get a 7900 XT, which performs about the same and is over $100 cheaper.

Nah. For $800 we should get an 80-class card from Nvidia and for $700 we should get its competitor from AMD and not the 7900xt which competes with xx70ti. All these cards are stupidly overpriced and because one is cheaper than another changes nothing.

To me the price of the 4070TI/12GB 4080 wasnt bad, it was the name. I'm totally fine with this 60 class card being priced at $900, as long as people know its a traditional 60 class card, not a 70/80 class. I agree with corporate shill-fans that 4nm is more expensive(while everything else is cheaper) but they cannot make the argument that the die costs more, when the die is a small part of the cost, and thy are comparing two completely different classes of dies. I cant understand how people can ignore the fact that these cards are some of the lowest MFG spec cards Nvidia have released in a long time Yes the die is significantly more expensive, price it accordingly, but dont lie to me and everyone else Everyone dogged on ford for making the Mustang Mach E. Now imagine if Chevrolet had taken the 2017 Chevy Spark EV and called it a corvette because it was faster than a 1982 Corvette. People would loose their phucking minds. I was upset when the GTX 1080 was announced to be sub 400mm when most of its predecessors were over 500mm, but at least it and the 1070 had a 256 bit memory bus. Not with the 40 series. Now where i think Nvidia screwed up on their master plan to give you less chocolate in your candy bar, was to relase the 600mm 384 bit 4090 with a 6% price increase over the 3090 Same class of card(manufacture wise), 6% price increase People saw that, and contrasted it to the 242% difference from the ~300mm 192 bit class 12GB 3060($329), to the 12GB 4080($900) Now this is the exact opposite of all historical pricing. Normally the high end cards are the ones that are terrible value with the biggest price jumps, but with the 40 series the mid range was the worst with the 12GB 4080. People saw this and realized "hey, these prices and names are entirely made up, i'm going to leave this abusive relationship and start retro-gaming, or get out of gaming all together'

@@ObakuZenCenter To clarify, i am fine with it because i know no one will pay for it and the price will come down. Every company can price their products however they want, but i think it should be punishable to try to decieve the customer the way AMD, Nvidia, and all of these companies do.

40 series all together except the 4060s is a 1440p cards 4K at hardly 30 fps is L from Nvidia

Really not. 4080 and 4090 are true 4k cards, 60fps at max settings. 4070ti can definitely run 4k with DLSS at high settings, sometimes max if the game isn’t broken like Alan wake 2
