My worse experience camping when my then boyfriend decided to see how I was like camping. We took his 6 person tent he did not pay a lot of money for and went out to the Canadian Rockies for a week. One night about 1am we heard a thunder storm come up through the valley and then over our campground. The tent leaked and leaked as he had forgotten to reapply the seal along the seams. We took shelter in his truck until the storm passed. Then he went into the tent and wiped everything down and by 230 am we were back into the tent and slept until morning. Never deterred us.. camped with that tent for another 6 years until we needed a new one. Still getting out to the mountains now as a married couple. Thank for such a great channel.

Me and my family lost everything when our home caught fire. I don't wish it on anyone. It deeply traumatized us all. We're incredibly blessed that our daughter wasn't injured or worse in that fire and we're glad it's behind us. I'm now paranoid about everything electrical plugged in. I unplug everything when not in use now.

Hey Luke, might be unrelated but I struggle with depression and mental health issues, and your channel has brought me calmness and happiness. Also, I haven't camped outside in the wilderness but I've done outside security event site and equipment watches overnight in parking lots, open fields and so on--and it was a lot like urban camping, and most times I was alone with little to no access to fundamentals (heat, shelter, washroom etc.,) And since discovering your channel I've learned a lot about gear for outside survival and how to last the night comfortably until dawn. Just wanted to say thank you for being you and your channel! Also, Alps Mountaineering yes they SHOULD know better

I went to visit my birthplace and see my family.. my brothers and sisters.. both my parents already passed away a long time ago! I did stay with my sister who lives at the edge of the mountain.. and my very first morning there, I woke up at 4am hearing birds singing and someone singing! I ask my sis and what’s was that singing?? My sister told me go look! I saw my brother singing and facing the mountain, it was still dark but I can see the morning light is creeping in.. and I found out, my bro love to wake up every morning and he sings to the birds!! LOL.. And the birds seems to be singing to him! Lolol! I told him, I saw a Movie that Angels await for the morning light and once the Sunrise is creeping in, those ANGELS sings to welcome the day! I told him, maybe u are an Angel and you just don’t know it. He just smiled!! I went back to America and left the island, but three days after I came home, I got news my bro died of COVID. And within that week, My sister died of COVID too! I lost two siblings within a week!! I hate COVID SOO much!! Both waited for their vaccines.. I asked myself, did I go home after 5 yrs. of not seeing my families just bec. It is meant to be?? So I can see my brother and sister for the last time?? My sis live at the edge of the mountain, so when my bro sings.. it echoes! Do neighbors get mad? NOO coz believe me or not.. he can really sing! I love your show because you are always in the mountain. I love the rain, thunder and lightings. And most of all, I LOVE YOUR STORIES!! I got hook on UKposts because of shows like urs. I usually turn the Rain/Thunder shows to make me fall asleep!

I also love how you talk to us as if we were sitting underneath that tarp with you. I am so glad that you set up under those trees, as they made the condensation less bad (but not by much). In an open meadow, you would have drowned for sure in the condensation. I think that tent would be quite dangerous if the temps dropped a lot; wet and cold could be deadly. My worst outdoor experience was about 10 years ago. I rode out a severe thunderstorm. It was so bad that I could feel and smell the lightening. I was just hoping that the "end" would be quick. Worst 20 minutes in my outdoor life.
@tag1462
@tag1462 Рік тому
I had a similar experience strung up between two trees in a hammock. I had a tarp pitched as well in your typical A-frame with one side staked down, the other just rolled up and tied off with quick release knots. Anyways this summer T-storm rolls in. High winds, monsoon rain, hail, and of course the lightning and thunder. I was acutely aware of the position I was in. The wind gusts weren't that bad. I was in a copse of maples, so I had good coverage but it did cause the hammock to sway. Like a rocking chair. The canopy did a good job of keeping most of the rain off. The tarp held its own on what did fall through. The hail did worry me. It started out small. pea sized. Then it to golf ball size. That tore through the canopy. I'm thinking I'm screwed. I am going to die by lightning or I get beat to death by ice. Anybody who's been through it knows it.

Speaking of worst movies ever.... My nomination for that award was a movie called District 9. I actually walked out of the theatre it was so bad. lol I have to tell you thank you Luke for making these videos and the other one's on your other channel "A Quiet Place Adventures." I'm retired army and 70yo. I have severe hearing loss and I can't hear the birds when I am sitting out back on my deck enjoying my coffee in the mornings. But bless your heart, I can hear the birds in your videos chirpping away in the morning and it is a sound I dearly miss. You just have to love nature and the way it surprises us when we are out in it. A deer 20 feet away. How great is that! Thanks again Luke for another great video. STRENGTH and HONOR my friend.

Luke, the theme of your commentary, be aware, stay alert, when you go into the woods, is absolutely right. Taught my children exactly that, every time. We used to stand quietly, just inside the woods and listen. Our task was to be quiet, listen and identify every sound. Thanks for explaining why the tarp isn’t placed over the tent. The arse pad is an excellent idea too, a little padding and pretty good dry spot. You carry some heavy packs, my friend. A 6 pound ruck, just the empty ruck? Whew! Thing is, you carry a lot of stuff that justifies a heavy duty pack. No denying it, you’re a beast. My basic load is 7 - 12 pounds. Water and food may add on 6-10 more pounds, depending on time out. Too bad about your tent and the wetness. You like and test tents more than I do. Kentucky

Once I set up my tent and made the bed then chilled in camp. By dinner I noticed the entire inside of the tent was a wet swamp just from the ground moisture! Good thing I wasn't far from home... had to drive home and get dry sleeping gear and a fan to dry the tent out... I never expected that much moisture from the ground with no rain in the area at all. Learned my lesson and now always have a backup plan for such conditions. Jan 2021 near Corpus Christy, TX... so glad I had a plan B because the humidity was horrendous.

Really enjoyed this video! I remember the night camping at Spirit Lake at Mt. St. Helens (probably the mid sixties :) My cousin and I helped our aunt set up her new waterproof tent. Dinner (hot dogs and pork and beans), and then to bed. It started to rain...pour...and we kids touched the underside of the tent roof. Drip, drip...Auntie was not happy!! The next day we took down the tent and drove to Meier and Frank...and threw the wet, crumpled, failed tent onto the loading dock and drove away. She was Very unhappy! The same rainy night, we jumped into our sleeping bags and heard what sounded like a long-winded scream like a woman, then man (weird voice range) like someone was being killed, echoing through the camp ground. We asked our aunt, "what was that", and she dismissed it by saying be quiet and go to sleep! I have a suspicion that our Aunt knew what it was. Looking back, I can't imagine what else it could be than a sasquatch.

We were deer hunting one morning in the mountains of NY. Temperature was below freezing. My father was crossing a narrow 6 foot high beaver dam and he fell in off the back side up to his knees or perhaps a little higher. We were watching from a large rock outcrop where we agreed to meet. We were about a mile from our heated tent camp. He got his clothes off and wrung the water out of his wool hunting pants and his cotton lined wool underwear. There was almost no wood for us to build a fire at that spot so we decided the best course of action was to head back to camp, about a half hour hike as we had to cross a river on a cable chair to reach the camp on the other side. It's important to get dried off as soon as possible and dry out your clothes as best you can. Wool is better than cotton as it will still retain heat even when wet. Polypropylene will wick moisture away from your body. Years ago when I was a driver on a deer drive, I would roll my cotton tee shirt and hunting shirt up into my suspenders to expose my midriff and let moisture escape. Now you can get poly tee shirts and underwear. Poly underpants are harder to find. Gildan makes good poly tees but the last I found were 50-50 with cotton. Another time I got caught out hunting in a cold rain. I had left my wool hunting hat back at camp and just had on a cotton baseball cap. It got soaked and I was done for and had to head back to camp. Goretex was just starting to become popular and by the next season, I had a Goretex Jones hat which also kept the rain off my neck. Your hunting or hiking gear is so important and many improvements have been made over the years if you can afford them. Price was always an issue when I first started hunting.

Never,ever have had a bad experience camping..I don't get to go camping anymore but when my boys were little,until they were grown, camping was the absolute vacation!! Every summer, several times throughout the summer. Then I started taking my grandsons and my nieced and nephews. I haven't been able to go since 1999. So I really enjoy watching these videos. I agree with you, up early, just to listen to the birds and watch the sun come up.... I live in the woods so I can get up early and get my cup of coffee and go out on my back porch with nothing but Woods. And I've got Birds by the gazillions and squirrels and foxes. I used to have bears come around but someone bought up behind me so I think all the Bears have been scared away. They used to come to the porch. And I have lots of raccoons of course. I have two acres so if I get out on the porch early morning it sort of like camping. I'm 75 years old and not in really good health, so I really truly enjoy these videos. I just watched your video of your trip to New Mexico and Utah I watched that this past Saturday which would have been July the 30th. And when you guys went to Valley of the Gods it was all I could do to keep from crying. Such magnificent Beauty. How I would love to see that in person, and Rice Canyon and so many things out west. But I can pull them up on my UKposts channel and I get to see a lot of things there. And I've got a big screen TV so it's almost like being there not hardly but almost. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

One of my fondest camping memories was when we had a fishing tournament. We caught some pretty big cats. It was apretty warm day. Wasn't suppose to rain. I didn't put the tent protector over the top. Well, bet you could guess, it rained. So i put the protector on the tent & oh my goodness did it ever get humid in there! Didn't get a lick of sleep! Next morning i had to fix breakfast for about 40 people. Oh man was i tired! Best part was i won the whole tournament! Got 2 trophies. One for the womens contest & one for winning the big trophy for the most fish!

I agree with you on the best sleep coming from a cold room and a warm blanket. I sleep like the dead when that happens. My favorite thing as a kid was going into my cold bedroom and climbing under the flannel sheets when they’d just been washed and were super tight and crisp.😁

My worst experience is hard to choose, and both take awhile. Bottom line, with a troop of scouts at a jamboree, in Tampa, during rainy season. Sudden storm hits, awaken by screaming boy in literally rolling across the grounds in tents, yes IN their tents! We covered 82 kids in our "circus tent" while clothes and sleeping bags were transported to laundromats for drying. We/they will never forget it. MacDill air base will never live it down! Great memories! BTW, all still finished out the last 2 days of the jamboree.

Beautiful area...before the rain anyway...went dirt bike riding with my dad years ago. Got hit by an insane thunderstorm. Took cover till it passed. One of the bikes battery died and wouldn’t start even with a jump. My dad took his bike back to the truck and I went to the other end of the trail and waited for him to get to the truck, load up his bike and drive a good hour to get to the other end of the trail from the highway. Rained the entire time. Had a cheap wal mart poncho that lasted for about 5 seconds 😆. Was soaked and exhausted by the end it at the top of the hill where the parking lot was there was a beautiful view. Worth it.

Loved your photography! Especially the crow. I remember a backpacking trip as a kid where we had deer visiting our camp every day. There was a young doe that even allowed us to pet her. We also ran into some bighorn sheep ewes. They came right up to us looking for food handouts. No doubt people had been feeding them. Great memories! Thanks Luke! Fun video!

One of the most profound educational thing I ever learned about Tent camping is to actually dig a trench around your tent and a River line. In the Military we did this so if it rains the Water doesn’t go into your tent.

Yes we had a bad experience camping in a tee tent we got from Walmart. It's a pretty good size tent. It's like 9ft across and water proof. So they say. Well it did rain one of the days we were camping and it did leak, but not through the roof. It was leaking through the bottom zipper which was about 3 to4 inches deep. I'll never forget that moment. We do have a much better tent now.

I loved this episode! Great content, super advice and your photography skills are "sick"...great eye! I use a Samsung S21 to "document" my travels and post on Facebook. Someday I may invest in a Canon camera but I'm happy with the photos I get with my cell phone. Simple and easy. I lost a dear friend in a house fire. Watching a house burn down produces a deep sadness for me. Luke, you subject yourself to torture on some of your vlogs and we in the outdoors community can only respect and admire your fortitude, determination and will to provide the valuable information you present to us. Thank you! Have fun seeing Lucas. Wish him well for us.

I would have watch the beginning of the video for an extended period of time. It was awesome to see the meteorite fly across. That's a nice piece of heaven you got there.
