When you take the plastic bags from the food and coffee back home, can they be recycled with the plastic bags that most grocery stores collect near their front doors? Do the companies that melt and reuse the plastic like to mix the two types of plastic together, or do we need to find another plalce to recycle the bags from the coffee and biscuits and gravy?

Having spent the past week or so watching survival focused channels - build your own shelter, boil swamp water, and hope you catch dinner if you want to eat tonight type deals - seeing you just calmly assemble a table and chair, then heat some bottled water on a stove in a pot to make instant coffee and food is hilarious. My wife and I messed up last week. We went for a simple hike in central PA on a sunny day where the weather forecast said all the t-showers were over. Based on that, neither of us took any rain gear or a tarp. Bad idea! We got caught in the middle of a very severe t-storm (close lightning strikes and falling tree limbs) which lasted over 30 minutes. Fortunately, we made if out without any damage (other than our pride) which proves, as Luke loves to say: "Don't trust the weather forecasters." I'll never go out again without a properly packed daypack, regardless of the forecast. Strength and honor Luke!

Love it! Keep up the good work Luke! High quality content, from the quality of the video, to the way you describe the gear and the environment, and up to the entertainment you provide with the scenery and sounds you capture. I can honestly say you're one of my favourites here on youtube! Wishing you well and hope to see you making these great videos for many years to come my friend!

So, I’ve watched you set up your camp multiple times over a couple of years now. You have never, in my memory, pitched your tarp over the door of your tent. I grew up in East Tennessee and I learned, for good reason, to always put a tarp over the front door of my tent. Since we both grew up camping, in generally the same area of the wet Appalachians, how could we set up camp so differently? My wife taught me to like pea and carrots. When we were brand new married, I was a plain, meat and potatoes guy. Over the years she’s had me give lots of different foods an “honest try”. I loved her and trusted her, so, I did. Well, I’ve learned to eat salad and lots of veggies. Yep, peas and carrots. Texas

Isn't it also recommended in the States to always store + handle all food away from your tent? I always assumed that just wanting to cover his cooking area, at that bit of distance, was his reason. Though of course, on his test nights he would also have the reason of fully putting the fly through its paces with no mitigating elements.

Luke is testing the tent, so not having the tarp over it, you see the failure modes, BUT, from a practical standpoint, yes, tarp over your tent. I camp for week long stretches and you are guaranteed rainfall one day in that week in Southern Ontario. I have a dome tent, I will tarp the entire tent and have the tarp hug the tent like a fly with a point guyed out for ingress/egress. By having the tarp secured to the tent as a dome, it does not become a wind catcher. Also note in the footage, the backsplash of forest duff on the sides of the tent bathtub. That will cause seepage, so having that tarp drape over and right to the ground, the tent stays clean and dry. May sound like overkill, but once you take those precautions, you don't care if it rains, and the cleanup is much easier after.

That terrain looks so much like Mt. Hood National forest. I camped one time there. The weather was excellent when I went to bed. Woke up about 0730 the next morning and had 8 " of snow. Just shows how fast the weather can change in the high mountains.

Another great review and totally awesome location, very jealous 👍 Regarding a tarp, I always pack one in my pack also, here in northern Australia it's always hot as heck, so I normally set the tarp up over the tent mostly to keep the sun off the tent and extra protection from any showers of rain. Anyway thanks again for another great video 👍

I took this tent onto Dartmoor in the UK in the extreme rains on the 3rd of the month. Absolutely no issue. The storm flap in the vents wasn't holding up with the wind on Sheepstor so the vent got closed: job done. Fortunately no issues and very pleased with the tent. For the money, I'm Absolutely 100% impressed. Seems like there is some pot-luck going on with this one 🤔 That's a shame.

@@1savage99 Mine is 5 weeks old, but that's just in my possession after purchase. Maybe it sat on a shelf in the Amazon warehouse a while before I bought it. I can only say I had comparable rain and it held up, kept me safe and I had a good night in terrible conditions. I was doubly impressed as I also have a Carinthia Observer from new as well, which I expect to be bomb proof. It is in winds and storms, but it ALWAYS seems to leak a little on the right side. For the £500 price difference between the two, the One Tigris really is amazing value, but definitely it's a roll of the dice as to whether you get a good one and that's a shame for both the buyer and One Tigris themselves.

@@mrghost3209 mine has leaked in light rain and not leaked in downpours, i've had very mixed results. I really feel like it's how the rain is falling and if it can come up inside the vent. I'm going to put some velcro on mine to keep it closed all the way. I also started positioning the kickstand so that it pushes the storm flap up before closing the vent. The first night with mine I got VERY wet, much worse results then what Luke had.

@@tennyis28 I haven't used it enough to say yet whether mine leaks in light rain. The two times I've had it out have either been in an absolute downpour or just a regular, breezy night on the moors. Two weekenders isn't enough for me to give any more user experience than I've already shared, but thanks for the heads up as sooner or later I'll be using it in lighter rain too.

I'd say it passed with a C or C+. Even though there was some water ingress, it was still dry enough to both (a) get some sleep and (b) have a dry spot to fix breakfast. So, not a total fail and not a total success - but good enough. Especially given the amount of rain we saw in your video.

Onetigris website for this tent states: Caution: Please use carefully in severe weather/rainstorm. It also states this tent’s waterproof rating is 1500mm and weather suitability at very light rain. From reading this it seems the rainstorm you tested this tent under was way above what it could handle, but still an excellent review. I now know always place tarp over the tent. Keep up the good work!

I did a four-day backpack trip just like the adventure you shared here - it rained and snowed continuously. We set up a tarp solely to protect our precious pile of firewood. I was sleeping under only a tarp, and miraculously stayed fairly dry. Rainy trips make for some great stories after you get home and get your gear dried out.
