OneTigris Scaena Backpacking Tent - First Look at the Cosmitto Replacement - Preview
What it is :
My friends, what i have here is the Scaena (sky-n-ah) tent from OneTigris; remember the Cosmitto tent that I reviewed previously? If not you should check out my videos on that tent as it was a very interesting product; it had a lot going for it but unfortunately the design of the tent meant that it wasn’t waterproof.
After the testing done on my channel, the company recommended that the Cosmitto be only used in light rain.
How useful is a tent that can’t weather any sort of weather? Not useful at all.
Anyways, after my testing videos and review went up for the Cosmitto tent, OneTigris told me that they were working on a new version of this tent, one that addressed all of the issues that I had and to make a long story short, here we go!
This is the Scaena tent which is essentially the new and improved Cosmitto tent. While it hasn’t replaced the Cosmitto as it is still for sale for some reason, based on what OneTigris has told me, it is the new and improved Cosmitto tent.
Agenda Free Link : www.onetigris.com/scaena-back...
Colors : Coyote Brown
Materials :
Fly : 20D silicone Ripstop nylon treated with 3000mm rating
Body: 40D silicone Ripstop nylon with 3000mm floor
Poles : 7001 Aluminum
Zippers : YKK
Weight : 5.3lbs
Dimensions :
Stored : 15.5” long x 8” wide
Setup : 6.8’ long x 4.1’ wide x 3.7” tall
Included :
Groundsheet
5 guy lines
10 tent stakes
Poles
Storage bag
Price : $250
Features :
This is a 3 season tent,
2 doors
2 vestibules
Angled poles - 120 degrees - this provides campers with a bigger, more open tent space. Also, it gives the users a better view from the inside of the tent as well as better ventilation.
Fly can be set up with the floor to make a sort of quick setup shelter when the inner tent isn’t required or needed.
Inside Flaps can be used to block wind - this can be incredibly handy in the summer months in certain situations. For an example, lets say that you are at the beach or maybe you are camping in the mountains and you have wind coming in one way, you can setup the tent with the flaps towards the wind so you can control the amount of air flow into the tent while having the benefits of mesh on the other side. It’s a really smart design
Impressions :
Quality and Construction :
Setup :
Design :
Large two person tent
It is slightly heavy for a 2 person tent but it is feature rich
Well thought out stake out points - points on the sides for additional airflow
Cosmitto Tent :
Going back to the Cosmitto tent for a moment, OneTigris really does deserve a round of applause for the way that they handled all of the issues concerning that tent. As a summary, they released the Cosmitto tent, through testing problems were revealed and the company owned up to the issues and made some changes on their web site and also issued a warning - the tent is designed only for good conditions with nothing more than light rain. While they didn’t pull the tent from the market they did make those changes which can be seen on their site to this day.
From Here :
This is a preview of the Scaena tent and from here it is going into testing - rain testing is coming up with a Test Night Video and in also, I will have a video dedicated to the setup process of this tent which will show you how to do both setups that this tent is capable of.
I will be filming adventures with this tent and ultimately my review will go up.

@@MegaCocobaby I think it was about what are you get for 700 dollars? I guess if you carry super heavy loads than maybe there is a reason for such a pack. I have spent a lot of money on Zpack gear and for one big reason, super light weight. Just wondering what is the primary use for said pack? Is it to carry super heavy loads. I am into super light so all of my older packs like the one you sit and collect dust. I really should sell. We all love what we love. Take care and enjoy that new pack. Osprey makes nice stuff. I own a couple.

I'm not sure a full fly is needed given the testing, but one that extends about 12 inches out past the current design on the door would be nice. The issue with the current design is that ANY rain on the doorside will drip down on the screen (as your test showed), so even for light rain, the internal fly has to be closed. An overhang which sends the drip lines off the screen (or in light wind, on the lower part of the screen) would allow the internal fly to be opened partially-to-fully depending on conditions. As it is now, even drizzle on a calm day requires the internal flies to be closed.
@Kazockas
@Kazockas 2 роки тому
That was my thought as well. It could also be a thought to add some more security on those seams with the velcro, either add a couple more strips or add toggle loops for heavy winds. Like he said with it being setup in correctly it could blow that open completely.

I have owned many tents and the best tent I have ever owned is a Coleman pop-up with only a very small fly that covers the crown only and the rest of the tent has internal flys for windows and doors and it does not leak. I even went through hurricane-force winds and rain a few years ago here in Oregon over on the coast. The winds were at 50 to 80 MPH and the tent kept us warm and dry. I have not bought a new tent ever since. I paid less than $200 for this tent.

Having had several tents, keep the fly from old tents. I use an extra over my big tent and was great in the snowy weather. That extra layer really helped keeping weather out and against the wind and keeping heat inside.

And if I was to buy the tent and was offered a larger rain-fly for a reasonable cost I would buy it. Thanks also for the review of the Helikon-Tex Pilgrim Anorak, cost vs quality and performance is exceptional. I’m waiting on delivery of UFPRO M2 parka as well. An exterior fly would be good for wet and warm muggy conditions when you need to open up the interior fly for better airflow but still need protection from the rain. It looks good otherwise.
@cmc5394oparva
@cmc5394oparva 8 місяців тому
That's kind of the irony of this design, in that if you have an exterior fly, you don't need the internal one unless you really want an extra layer of protection on that one side. I do own this tent myself, and it recently took a heavy rainstorm like a champ with no leaks at all, but I'll concede that their Cosmitto 2.0 is probably a better option since it has a full exterior fly, and even has a few extra inches of width besides.

Great review. Im always on the edge when it comes to OneTigris. I have my eye on their "baker" style tent right now but getting away from traditional canvas in this configuration has me questioning its ability to preform as a Baker style tent should. I am going the baker style route because I can run it off my Element that I have turned into a weekend camper but I still need it to function independently as a reliable baker style tent should. OneTigris, if you listening, send this man more tents for review. I would definitely trust his judgment.

Best outdoor gear review hands down, completely honest about everything. May you try the regular Marmot Tungsten 2P tent? A 5lbs, $214.00 tent; however, with my limited testing, it feels like sleeping in a brick house. I'm thinking about taking it for the AT, but is the weight, cost, and functionality worth it?

you could test the waterproofing with a hosepipe that way you can get the water into every angle of the tent to really see how waterproof a tent is.. because no matter what angle the rain comes from or how windy and rainy it may be a tent that states that it is waterproof should be waterproof no matter what is thrown at it or what angle the rain is coming from.
