I love how ODST is labeled as a Halo 3 game but is set during Halo 2

Audio logs tip: Every time you see: screens that say "detour" and multiple arrows, police sirens, barriers closing, it's that the city AI tells you where they are (audio logs are highlighted in yellow if you turn on the VISR). Not only you get to see a great story by seeing them all, but if you find them all it will change Rookie's behavior in the future(small change but worth it). If you want to find them all it could take you an entire episode, it's your choice if you wanna find them.

4:18 that line that Buck said actually changes depending on the difficulty you play on. It’s just like Sgt.Johnson lines. You got the Easy/Normal line and there are different ones on Heroic and Legendary. 😊

To let you know if you don’t know Juliette. Halo 3 ODST takes place roughly during the events of Halo 2. And we are in New Mombasa, the city where we were in Halo 2 for those few Earth missions. If you remember. And before Truth’s fleet arrived to undiscovered the key to the Ark. 😊.

The hardest part of this game is the clues/objects you need to find. You need to use the visor and beeping sounds to find them. One is above, so look up sometimes. One near the water is difficult to find. But overall it’s interesting being a soldier instead of a spartan.

Some background info on the story that was released on the Bungie forums back when this game first released: The ODST team you are a part of is designated Alpha-Nine and at the start of the story they were initially preparing to launch their pods into the Prophet of Regret's ship in order to overwhelm its defenses from the inside. That was why the team was surprised in the opening cutscene when the ONI lady ordered them to change course("But we're gonna miss the carrier"). Incidentally the ship they launched from was called the UNSC _Say_ _My_ _Name_ (the UNSC love playing around with some of their ship names,apparently😅).Unfortunately,the game itself doesn't reveal the above info at any point. Also,since this game takes place in the middle of H2 you can see Miranda's ship(In Amber Clad) jump into the slipspace portal along with Truth's ship if you look hard enough. It can be a bit taxing on the eyes though since Amber Clad is quite small compared to the carrier and its a bit of a blink-and-you-miss-it moment.

Hearing you narrate the intro made me tear up, like this game hits HARD knowing these are just normal humans but they're the best of the best just doing their thing is amazing

This takes place between 2 and 3. That ship that did a slipspace jump in the city is the same ship Miranda Keyes chased down in Halo 2. You can actually see In Amber Clad chasing the carrier if you look closely. Pay attention to the digital signs they help guide you. The city AI is helping Rookie find his squad mates. The space elevator reached space. The part that collapsed’s debris was scattered over a few kilometers and you can actually see the debris in Halo 3.

Oh boyy this is gonna be fun So, that little bit of dialogue at the beginning, where Buck tells the Squad that Dare is Naval Intelligence...the various branches of the UNSC don't particularly like the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI). Also, those glyphs you saw in Mombassa Streets as the Rookie? They just so happen to be a key part of one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in the history of the Halo franchise, there are a lot of comparisons and parallels to Inferno or "the divine comedy" by 14th century Italian writer Dante Aligheri. Basically, each level in ODST corresponds to one of the 9 circles of hell represented in The Divine Comedy, the levels you played through are the first 2, Tayari Plaza (lust) and Uplift Reserve (Gluttony) with Mombasa streets acting as Purgatory. If you want a more detailed and informative look at it I'd recommend Installation 00's video on the topic. Also in The Divine Comedy, the protagonist (a fictionalised version of Dante Aligheri himself) is led on a tour of the 9 circles of Hell by the Roman poet Virgil, meanwhile in ODST, Mombasa's city wide Ai, Virgil, guides you as you look for your squad.

YAY! I'm happy about the quick turn around time on starting ODST after finishing Halo 3. It got a bit of a beating when it was first released because of the cost of the game despite its brevity but I've always loved it for the characters and tone. - Phenomenal opening cutscene with the drop into New Mombasa. If you look closely during the scene when you're dropping into New Mombasa, you can see "In Amber Clad", which contains Master Chief, Johnson and Miranda Keyes on their way to the Halo in Halo 2. - As a Firefly fan, the game is basically reunion of the cast. You're correct in that Buck is played by Nathan Fillion (Firefly's main character) and Dutch and Mickey are played by Firefly cast members too (Adam Baldwin and Alan Tudyk). -Silenced SMG is best for taking down Brute's armor and the silenced pistol is good for head shotting grunts. - The Superintendent is a clever replacement for Cortana, it's clever seeing how it finds way to communicate with the ODSTs with its limited vocabulary/canned phrases. - HIGHLY RECOMMEND devoting an entire video to reacting to the Game's Audiologs/"Sadie's Story". Provides a fantastic civilian perspective of the Halo universe and help explains the Superintendent's background.

Oh yes, to let you know. When you go into your map, intel, etc. It does not pause gameplay so the enemies will still attack you while you are in there! Check your surroundings before opening the map. 😊❤️

When you see signs randomly changing around town to "detour". Or the superintendent trying to get your attention, they are trying to give you some help "Lost items found on lower level" was actually refering to dare" It speaks to the player Let the Ai help you out! Never know what they are trying to show you! Just like it spoke to sadie!

There are 30 audio logs in this game, definitely react to them after you finish and watch the changed cutseens on UKposts after too. The audio logs also have some visuals that go with them in menu.

I like this game as in the original version, the difficulty symbol change from the trilogy. The difference is that instead of the energy swords, they are replaced by the slienced smgs, and instead of the elite skull on legendary, it is replaced by a human skull. 😁❤️.

It's totally up to you to decide whether you want to continue after reach or not. My opinion: if you don't experience the games first-hand, you won't understand why people don't like them so much. Besides, each person can enjoy things differently than others. Don't let anyone gatekeep you from those games.

LOVE ODST! Keep an eye out for hints that the Superintendent gives you: he'll try and point you in the right direction with signs and car alarms, and if you see roadblocks going up that probably means there are enemies around he wants you to avoid. The audio logs are also so very interesting, if you can find them all (they're just in the Mombasa Streets level with the Rookie). Also, fortunately you missed the dead zebras during the Uplift Reserve level :(

This was the first halo game to have an open world type feel and I liked it as we can explore a deserted city and uncover a lot of secrets while doing so. ❤️😁

Also yes, it's been awhile since I've played, but it's Halo 3 and after when the Warthog see's an improvement to handling and controlling. The first two iterations of the Warthog are much different and take some getting used to it. Aside from that it's nice to see you're starting Halo 3: ODST, I and many others have said stuff about games after Halo: Reach, but I would honestly try some of them before making a decision on whether or not you should play it. I wouldn't address it before the time comes, but I would consider trying Halo 4 sometime after Halo: Reach. Not all Halo's after Halo: Reach are bad, there's just a giant hump in the middle of the road people don't look fondly on. Halo 4 is okay, and Halo Infinite is pretty good for what it is. They're all a step down from what they once were, but there's still some good to be found in Halo 4 and Halo Infinite (Halo 6.) I'm only saying this now because some people have already spilled the beans on what the reception around the games after Halo: Reach is. It's not all bad though. Some people who started playing have outright stopped playing after Reach, which is a bit much I think. Those are the same people who say that TLoU2 is "woke" and is ruined because of where it goes with the story. I think the game and the hate for the game can be just a little silly at times, but I love TLoU2 and people are entitled to their own opinions and when they want to stop playing a game.

1:17:29 the power of giving the marines a rocket launcher or sniper rifle, only problem of giving them a rocket launcher or fuel rod, its that they can't use it at close range obvliously, so enemys that rush them would make them defensless as i learned the hard way xd but wouldn't be much of a problem if some marines have regular guns or even a shotgun to proctect each other, but the firepower on long range makes it worth it specially with the snipers taking down shields and you finish the enemy down xd

My brothers used to discuss ODST among themselves. Now I know what these ODSTs are..... These are nothing but the events of Halo 2!!!

We're diving straight into ODST then! Awesome! Somewhat of a Firefly reunion in regards to the voices you'll be hearing. The actors who played Mal, Jayne and Wash all have parts to play here. (How awesome would it have been to have got a Firefly game. I'm imagining something similar to Starfield but with Firefly's universe and lore. Now THAT would be awesome!) I like how ODST is a little different to the previous entries. It has a feel all of its own, while still being very much a Halo game. ODST is the best one, yeah. Some people will argue that 3 and 2 are better but it's the most grounded game with the best atmosphere, personality, writing, and music. An absolute gamechanger even if people don't recognise it's impact.

When i started playing odst i kind of hated it, it seemed boring and pointless to me, and next thing i know i fell in love with the game

Ohh, ODST. A fan favorite for sure. I like the majority of the writing, some parts are… cringe? Not my favorite? But that's not the point. I am happy someone new is making their own decisions about the games. This one is far different then previous. ODST set the standard for Halo not just being a Spartan story. There is much not many people know about the ODST. So lets make you part of the elite who do, shall we. Fact 1. The O.D.ST started roughly four hundred years ago by the start of this game. They began as the Drop Jet Platoons. And they fell under a then United Nations back in 2129. The first O.D.S.T iteration was introduced in 2163, when a fledgling UNSC began to form. However, in that same year, Mars had developed, and I kid you not. A serious neo-communist problem. This lead to the interplanetary wars, which concluded in 2170, with the Callisto treaty, signed on the moon of the same name. Fact 2. Three of the main characters are voiced by members of the cast of Firefly. You have a good ear. Nathan Fillian voices Edward Buck, and Alan Tudyk voices Michael “Micky” Crespo, and Adam Baldwin voices Taylor Henry “Dutch” Miles. However, through out Halo 3, all of, if not most of, the cast of Firefly voiced random Marien NPCs through out the campaign. Nathan Fillion actually has prominent voice rolls through the campaign. Also apparently, Bucks full name is: Edward Malcom Buck. Malcom being a reference to Firefly as well. Such a good show. Fact 3. The ranks of the ODSTs are a voluntary position . However, they only take those that make it. This requires not only a certain kind of mind and body, but also home life. Most would probably have no one left to call friend or family. This reality, while sad, would be the best out come. Not having to worry about dying because of who might cry, frees up a particularly depressing side of humans. Even in real world special forces, they want people who don’t have families or close ties to home. Navy Seals for example, do insane things, but no matter what, it's a training accident. It was always a training accident. I imagine ODSTs follow similar clandestine procedures with recruitment, acceptance, and death if it's members. The team “naming” conventions are rather simple and broad for quick and direct comms flow. Think along the lines of: Beta-One, Charlie-Two, Delta-Three and the like. The team that you play as across the campaign of Halo: ODST is called: Alpha-Nine. Fact 4. Throughout the campaign, it alludes to a past between Edward Buck and Veronica Dare. In the open cutscene to Buck's mission, Dare will references to something Buck asked her. This is because in 2545 Buck's homeworld of Draco III was destroyed by the Covenant while he was in a deep extended cryos-sleep. The colony and all of it's citizens, including everybody important to Buck, were destroyed. He religiously watched and rewatched footage from the attack. This also fueled his hatred for the Covenant. Specifically Grunts and Jackels, who took survivors for sport. He requested transfer to the ODSTs and three weeks later was excepted into their ranks. However, due to his recent, all be it understandable, his commanding officer ordered some mandatory shore leave. As his behavior was putting other trainees at risk. And after being threatened with a full psychological evaluation, which could, and would, deem him unsuitable for the ODSTs, he relented and went for some rest. He went to a colony resort above Saturn called: Castellaneta. This is where he met Captain Veronica Dare. The two hit it off quick and joyously spent a week together. Buck had high hopes for a relationship with Dare. But after discovering her position within ONI, his less then positive reaction that cemented a negative dead end to their splendid week together. This rash and negative decision would haunt Buck for the remainder of his career. But the two have had a chance run in once more. Let’s hope he thinks before he speaks this time around, aye? Fact 5. The short audio clips you’re finding are part of a side story called: Sadie's story. Finding one actually unlocks a hidden stash in the city, they should appear on your map. However, I guarantee you won’t find them all, but it's completed here on UKposts. It's kinda long. So only listen to it if you got the time. Otherwise don't worry 'bout it. It’s rather F-ed up though. So strong stomachs are required. Bonus Fact 1. When looking to go somewhere, look to street signs, billboards, the literal streets, and cameras if you can see them. This is the superintendent’s way of guiding you. It is the A.I controlling the city, guiding you to safety. It's mannerisms are based on what a city would need. Traffic refers to Covenant foot traffic, so if you aren’t up for a fight, avoid it. Things like that. If you’re lost and don’t wanna bother looking at your map constantly, just look for something bright and neon. Odds are it’ll show you the way. Bonus Fact 2. The character you’re playing as actually has name. Jonathan “The rookie Doherty. He actually appeared in a short story way before Halo: ODST came out. In it he finds a wounded ODST named Gage, laying against a downed Pelican. And a portable nuclear weapon. Gage was an ODST who was recently betrayed. His ODST squad, made up of former corrupt government peons, wanted to pull off a gold heist during a Covenant invasion. Meanwhile, Gage found a teacher and their students in a school basement. His crony crew said to leave them, because there wasn’t enough room in the pelican. Because of the gold. A shoot out started that got a friend of his killed, and Gage ran. Hoping to stall the Covenant. He highjacked a separate pelican containing a Forerunner artifact. He stole a radio and called in the civilian's position. However, his former team shot him down. He told the Rookie to book it, as his former teammates would be there soon. Rookie started running and only moments after clearing a mountain range for safe distance, a mushroom cloud rose high into the distance. Next vid we’ll cover more of Alpha-Nine's diverse array of characters. Promise.

9:16 well odst being a semi open world while being the rookie, there is a must to have alot of medkits for the lengendary difficulty where you get fucked constantly and also being a odst you are more fragile than a spartan and also the supply depposits that are handy and the collectibles that help to get a different outcome on a certain mission later on
