The way I figured it was the character was very motivated to get the words onto the whiteboard so they could have a discussion about this text, he needed some meaning at that moment to distract from the personal existential crisis!😅

It could be a nice addition to put also the "Starting equipment budget". You've bought a few things already in the past for filming, recording sound, etc... And having this accounted for would make the video sounds like: "Ok, you could too make the same film now with that amount of money".

Nothing better than seeing someone have a goal set and reaching said goal. I dont make movies. But i do create, and just being a part of this community really pushes me to just… get it done. Its hard sometimes. Especially this year. Ive kinda been in the space that Dax has been talking about on his channel recently, just drowning in hardship but not reaching out for relief. And making music used to be my escape, when depression turned music into a stressor, my entire sense of self collapsed. Watching your films, seeing your friends, daydreaming about the process you all go through to create really helps. Good work guys, The Text actually resonated with me in a way I didn’t expect.

I too wonder why more people don't talk about your oscars challenge. I feel like we live in a fast world and when I tell people to watch some of this stuff because it really impacted me they just don't want to put the effort in to watch. However, it seems like a lot of people are really impacted by this looking at comments and it gives me some hope for the world. Love your movies! Keep up the amazing storytelling!
@KnuckleHunkybuck

I think The Text is your best film that I've seen so far. I think you very effectively used the location to pull off something fairly unique and obviously carefully-planned. The acting isn't perfect, but it does well enough to tell a tight story within a very loose environment. I couldn't wait to see what the simulation would look like between them, so the ending was the perfect unanswered question. I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of the year!
@fredsnicker

It's funny, I even specifically thought at one point "how did he write all of that that fast?" and wondered if there might be some trickery, but the film instantly pulled me back in and that thought was left in the dust. Honestly, a testament to your filmmaking ability.

Hey Joel, question for you - I submitted my film with no trouble this year, but last year I had left a comment about how i couldn't enter my film due to some issues with my computer. A comment that you very kindly responded to I should add! My question is, I know the 2023 video has already been made, but could I still submit my 2023 movie to you for last years playlist? I understand if not lol but I have actually found a way to post the film and I should be doing so soon (I might make it a premiere but still, I've finally found a solution). I'm glad I was able to submit a film this year. For the foreseeable future it will remain a tradition of mine because at the very least I'll be making one movie a year. And once again, The Text is awesome. Very impressive. These past couple months you've made two of your best films in my opinion.

The Text if the first Joel Haver film that I just couldn't watch all of it. I couldn't get past Ben's pitch for an "app" and the whole concept about AI writing fantasy life stories about you and your chosen partner. And then the segway to Ben being sappy talking about his parents being married and a young age and him being single and essentially wanting to fantasize about how life would be different if he got married at a young age or whatever. I just couldn't suspend my disbelief that 1. Ben was presenting this as an actual serious idea, not knowing that this has been done a million times. 2. His friends don't call him out for his idea being completely unrealistic as a serious thing to pursue. 3. The "emotional reflection" type of thing Ben is doing just feels so forced. Not only like Ben himself is forcing it, but his friends reactions and interactions just don't feel natural at all.. I don't expect the best acting in the world when I watch a Joel Haver film, but I have come to expect good writing. This is the first instance where I felt the writing was not good for the scene. Ive been watching Joel Haver for years, im pretty sure ive seen literally everything on his main channel and a bunch of collabs, plus all the GLP stuff😂 So Joel if you're reading this, I'm not trying to hate, im a big fan. I'll happily continue watching everything you release! You're the best.
