Η οικογένεια - The Family, Part 2.
Part 1: goo.gl/8nryj2
In this lesson, we focus on particular family relations. We learn new words such as "θείος, θεία, ανιψιός, ανιψιά, ανίψι, εγγονός, εγγονή, εγγόνι" and many more.
We even take a look at the declining of some nouns, in order to be able to tell them apart from similar nouns with the same stem, but different endings.
We also use the cases in sentences so that we can practice their use in speech. Especially the genitive case (γενική πτώση) is very important when expressng family relations.
For an introduction to the cases of the nouns (and other declinable words), watch this helpful video. goo.gl/oUgb8t
For the Present Tense of the verbs "είμαι" and "έχω" with many examples, watch these videos.

Very helpful videos! Thank you so much! I'm just a beginner, I forgot all my Greek from school ;-) So I learn a lot through your videos, which is great! 💜 I have a question on this: 20:43 Why isn't an article used with _anipsios_ while _anipsia_ had one? _(sorry i can't write the greek letters on my phone)_

Hello Lina, thank you so much for your lessons!! When you say “ο Στέφανος είναι γιος του Χρήστου και της Χριστίνας» Could you explain why the word « γιος » has no definite article? Thank you

οι αδελφοι and η αδελφη sound the same while spoken, can this cause some misunderstanding ? ~ thankyou ~
@linaaaap1
@linaaaap1 6 років тому
Yes, they sound the same. But the verb endings as always save the day. And this happens with many other words that sound the same (η φίλη, οι φίλοι). Also, in this particular example, it would be more usual to use the neuter noun "τα αδέλφια" instead of "οι αδελφοί". It applies to brothers, sisters, or brothers and sisters. In any case, if you think that there might be a misunderstanding and the context doesn't help, you can explain further, by saying for example, "και οι δυο αδελφοί μου" (both my brothers), or "η αδελφή μου η Μαρία" (my sister Mary) etc.

Hi Lina, you said sister in law is η κουνιαδα and also Η νυφη, which one is correct?
@linaaaap1
@linaaaap1 6 років тому
Hi, they are both correct! I explain the differences in the video but here's a quick review: Let's say I'm married to a man and he has a sister. For me, his sister is my "κουνιάδα". But for her, I am her "νύφη". Hope this helped a bit more! :)
