Written and produced by Neima Hassan.
Neima is a 22-year-old girl from the informal settlement of Kibera, Kenya. Currently splitting her time between Nairobi and Mombasa, she works with SUPERB CBO and is a board member, mentor and an activist in the LGBTQ community. Being a LGBTQ activist, she spends time reading books about the gay community - all the comfortable and the uncomfortable truths.
Earlier this year, she graduated as a paralegal lawyer, and she hopes that her skills and her story will bring a positive impact in her country and all others that face the same challenge - that LGBTQ rights are human rights.
“My story explores the honest experiences and stories of people in the gay community that have been shunned and faced severe discrimination. The film seeks to look into the violence, the loss of friends, depression, the lack of identity and legal status - just some of the struggles of the gay community, in order to bring them to a broad audience. I seek to give a light to the humanity of the gay community and shift the violent and biassed perspective through which people interact with them.”
