Had this tent on a two week camp in NI, 23mph winds, extreme downpours, pitch struggling with severe and fast run off at times and was completely bone dry. The thing stood high and mighty while others we passed had collapsed entirely. My buddy had the Rakoon 2 and it matched the Hyena 2 pound for pound. These OEX tents are the most underrated tents for British weather. It blows my MSR out of the water for value and it's fast becoming my favourite tent brand. Big fan of all your videos, thanks chum!

This tent is identical to the Eurohike DLX2 which I own, with the exception that the HH is 2000 on the Eurohike. Over the last four years I have been on Dartmoor many times in 40 mph winds, slashing rain, frost and sun. I have had no problems whatsoever and never had any condensation even with two of us in it, it is also remarkably quiet in high winds. The zip doesn't stop half way round as far as I've noticed. It is a great tent and was the only one which ticked all my boxes. I've looked at upgrading, but can't find a better tent even at a price three times as much.

I wish this tentso came out 2 years ago. My first tent was a EuroHike Cairns 3 DLX with 2k HH for £65. This is much better in weight, size and HH. If they gave it the upgrades it wouldn't be in the price range of people that don't know about tents. This is the perfect starter tent, they can upgrade later.

I just picked up one of these at go outdoors a couple of weeks ago had it on Dartmoor twice in that time once in quite severe rain and it held up like a champ, can’t lie it is very tight fitting and the inside is a bit droopy even with all the clips attached but spot on for a one man

Well U had me on this Dan until about half way through, when U killed it for me by putting down what i believe are two of the best features of this tent, firstly being the windows & secondly having a proper PE ground sheet to the inner, instead of the thin treated polyester like most OEX tent floors seem to have... I'd sooner carry a few more g's to guarantee I'll stay dry... I'm also surprised that there was absolutely no mention to the the Eurohike Backpacker2 DLX, which this is a total copy of & was my main reason to buy it for comparison... Albeit it is made of slightly better materials & has a few extra lables on it, but thats about it... Sure change the poles to aluminium & put a second light hanging point at the high end, which could also then double as a drying line, make the window plastic slightly thinner maybe to save some tiny weight & could always add some velcro fixed curtains to the windows, as the EH Avon3 has, but other than that I dont think U can get a better bang for ya buck...! If you lose the windows, change the cathedral arch poles to curved, lose the split door & remove the decent ground sheet, basically U'll end up with a Jackal2...!🤣 But then that's only my opinion...!!!😄 People go on about the weight of the EHBP2DLXbeing 2.9/ Hyena 3kg, but I dont think that's a massive weight ght to carry & the closest OEX tent of this size, being the Jackle is heavier & U can't see out of that without having the door open, so I defo know wot I prefer...

A great review Dan and an honest one, that:s what I appreciate about you. It looks like a good little tent, fiberglass poles if they're if good quality don't bother me. I've had several tents with fiberglass poles survive the strong winds of Georgian Bay , on Huron Lake in Ontario, Canada , and survive a torrential thunder storm with strong winds while camping at Bon Echo, we were one of the few who survived. We saw lots of people leaving in their canoes for the trail head as they suffered broken poles, flattened tents etc . I've been camping for over 40 years with fiberglass poles and only had one incident of a pole spilting. Cheers Dan and keep them coming and glad to see your on the mend from your unfortunate deer incident.

A great review Dan. The tent, I think is great for the money especially if someone is just starting out camping and not venturing out too far or too long and this will give them the ability to either say " yes " to commit to more expensive tents for future camping or " no " as it might be just a couple of times a year thing. Personally I like it. Good to see you are on the mend from your ordeal and keep staying safe.

I bought mine for a 3 week motorcycle tour, used it multiple nights both wild camping and on camp site’s. The inner did not come attached with mine, but I did attach it and left it attached. If only the windows had some sort off cover to stop anyone looking in, I would be fine with. You really do need to have all vents open, or you will get a lot of condensation. The ground sheet is fine, and didn’t bother me although aluminium poles would have been nice. Had 2 nights off heavy heavy rain, and the tent was perfectly dry. Yes the peg’s are rubbish, so I took my own. Basically just confirming what was said in the video, after having used it for a longer period.

Good review mate. For £65 it's great for anyone who wants to go camping a couple of times a year and don't want to spend a fortune. Good starter tent. It would be good if manufacturers offered upgrade options like better poles etc. Although if you wanted to spend to upgrade, oex, vango and Naturehike all do great budget friendly tents. This reminds me of my first wildcamping tent, a Lichfield Apache 2 tent. Great for scouts or DofE.

I bought this. It's cheap. It won't leak, but it has major flaws with poles/pegs/groundsheet/ no extension/zip closure/ nasty little windows... Back to GO to get full refund, and to spend a little more on a Phoxx 2 or Jackal 2. Cheap is always expensive in the long run. Sadly. These OEX tents are generally very good indeed. This one isn't. I've had several. The saving simply isn't worth the compromises, unless the cost of living is impacting you heavily. Good review. Thanks.

Fibreglass poles noted, yes it’s heavy and the floor is a bit ‘crunchy’ 😂 but for £62 I can live with that as i familiarise myself and figure out what’s important to me/my needs when camping. The windows don’t bother me at all and I quite like them 😊. Thanks for your review 👍🏻

Used tents with fibreglass poles for decades and only had one small section develop a crack but still was useable. The ‘cheap’ pegs that reviewers constantly harp on about are perfectly OK if you don’t camp on very stony ground. Just buy a better set if you really need them. If you want a better quality tent, just buy a dearer one in the range - simples!

Every tent and waterproof clothing I use, I paint with TX-Direct by Nikwax. You're more or less guaranteed not to get wet. I am the kind of person who would buy this and carry a roll of decent gaffer tape. Or I might even upgrade the poles to alumnium ones myself. You could start with a mediocre cheap tent and after a few weeks, have quite a decent tent with one or two pretty straightforward upgrades.

This is the OEX version of the Eurohike Backpacker 2 DLX but with some good upgrades. I own both and its my love for the 2 DLX that made me buy the OEX Hyena 2. This tent has kept me bone dry and very comfortable in some horrible wet weather. Being a budget tent hasn't stopped the tent material being of good quality and an outstanding waterproof rating of 5000 HH. The cathedral arch pole design and mesh pole inserts give it good stability in the wind depite using fibre glass poles. Correct anchoring of the guy lines will further add to stabilty. Despite negative reviews i have a lot of love for this simple, well made tent. The wire ground pegs can easily be replaced with some alloy pegs. The weight is no issue for me at the moment. My beers are what weigh my pack down. 😂 The simple guy rope toggles i really do like as they adjust in seconds.

I've obviously put it up and the inner tent had to attached, i agree the pegs are cheap so ill be robbing some from one of my other tents. I do like the fact the vestibule hasn't got a ground sheet i find they puddle if its rains and you're go in and out because of the slopping door. That tent really reminds me of another tent however I cannot for the life of me remember which one? Windows with no way to cover them are a pain in the neck on campsites as it like windows on your house people will look in if they can. 3kg for a 2 person hiking tent seems really heavy to me so anything they did to make it lighter would be great as I really like the design.

Putting it up is a nightmare because of the poles separating, putting in the inner is a nightmare because as you do the toggles, it gets harder and harder to get the toggles into the hoops. You can't sit anywhere while doing the inner, and when it was finally set up, there was no vestibule for anything. Quite how OEX think two people with two rucksacks could fit in the tent is beyond me. I have given up on it already, and will be buying the Opalus 3 instead.
