This interview is quite a treat for me. I will have to watch it in shifts because of the length but I first became enamored of William Ury thanks to my own negotiations education in university. Getting To Yes is a fascinating and powerful book and hearing Mr. Ury discuss these principles with his enthusiasm and obvious intelligence is superb.

Great one! Also, check out Jim Camp’s book starting with no. He was a powerful force and successful negotiator at elite level. He countered the idea of start with compromise, and give up on your core needs and wants.

Great interview. Mr Ury is the best. On a sad note Mr Abilio -brazilian business leader whom he mentioned on the episode passed away yesterday at 87.

The concept of writing the other side's victory speech is a game-changer in negotiation. Adding to that, a key tactic is to focus on interests, not positions, which helps uncover the real motivations behind the negotiation table. It's a subtle shift that can lead to more creative and mutually beneficial outcomes.

Great conversation, thank you guys for sharing 🙏 Small quibble: Having a BATNA is fantastic. Using a BATNA as a threat against someone is a terrible long term strategy regardless of the situation and violates the core principle of maintaining trust, as discussed at 1:02:00

Respectfully disagree. Leverage and trade offs are parts of negotiation and compromise. My 2c

Trash interview, no disrespect intended. This guy literally offered not one piece of practical negotiating advice beyond the most basic of concepts. I mean WOW at the generalities 😂
