Got a little garden lighting project to do at home when the weather picks up and these look like they could be a good alternative to a wiska or conduit boxes, also had no idea about Tuff sheath or NYY cable so will be looking at this as alternative to SWA, Thx guys great video again!! :)

Great video, customers are wanting neat solutions on the outside of their house. I've ordered a few as it looks so neat and does the job. Not sure about using Wago's inside - I'll try it at home first.

These have already been proven to be effective at least for a few years, certain DNO's have been using a larger version for overhead connections, made by Raychem who im guessing own Raytech. The gel stuff litterally never changes state its brilliant. These smaller versions look very neat and tidy.

They look pretty decent. Ideal for those surface mounted cables maybe. Alot of the time we are coming back entry into the smaller wiska box and usually fit the flood light bracket just below so that the flood hides the box behind. I like NYY cable but wouldn't go too big with it as the cores are solid and not stranded makes it difficult to bend in places so swa can be better to use at times. Those fire clips make it look nice and neat, who did that clipping? Very neat !

Great video chaps they look a bit tidier than the whiska boxes and the ip rating is great to. What sizes do they go up to ?

Useful idea, but pricey at £8.65 (Screwfix). For LED security/flood lights applications the Wiska 108 box is a cheaper (£4.85 at TLC) and more flexible option, as the extra entries allow for PIR sensors to be connected. The 108 box has three entry points at the bottom, so you don't really need a gel-filled box, and that makes it easier to add and change at later date. Will give it a go for water-features, etc

They're great and come in different colours to suit the shade of cable colour and make the work look neat. Though I feel manufacturers if most luminaries deliberately make the cable short which adds this unnecessary cost. Either make the cable longer like a metre long or make a separate compartment for cable connection so I can connect my own desired length. I get that by sealing the fitting they've guaranteed an IP68 rating and mostly likely that wouldn't be the case if they out a cable compartment.

Great timing as looking to run a PIR to an LED strip outside via NYY/HiTuff. Main query I have at the moment is if I need to have an enclosure for the IP 67 driver or can this ‘really’ just be fitted directly outside? Suggestions and opinions welcome.
@ARElectrics
@ARElectrics 3 роки тому
For any driver I always like to mount them inside an enclosure for tidiness and bit of protection against the weather. Could go brittle over time and crack.

I haven't seen NYY cable, just wondering with installing external lights is it possible to install in NYY instead of pvc conduit ( I'm guessing it would be easier to install on uneven walls like stone) for impact and uv protection etc and what sort of cost Is it compared to pvc conduit.

Here's a question, is there any guidance on these gel filled boxes in regards to temperature? I'd suspect a black box in the sun for extended periods may cause something to happen to the gel like drying out or something, or can it take that?
@efixx

Good question - they have a rated installation temperature of -40 to +50C. The GEL doesn’t set.

@Marcel_Germann 3 роки тому
@@agy234 The cable is a german standard cable. That‘s the reason they said it‘s underused in the UK. It uses the old german cable designation system used before the european harmonisation. What NYY stands for is no secret: N means nomalised cable meeting the standards of the german VDE. First Y is material of the sheathing: PVC. Second Y is the material of the insulation, in that case also PVC. There‘s are also different versions available. -J means there‘s a green/yellow insulated wire in the cable. -O means there is no green/yellow insulated wire in the cable but a different colour instead. For example three core NYY-J: Brown, blue, green/yellow. NYY-O: brown, blue, black. But I‘m afraid you can‘t use this in the US. The wire colours are european, so they differ from the american ones. And one addition: In NYY the green/yellow is of the same size as the active conductors. That‘s a must in Germany. Between 1.5sqmm and 16sqmm must be the same size. Between 16 and 35sqmm it permitted to use 16sqmm. And above 35sqmm half the size is permitted. 1.5sqmm is the smallest conductor size permitted for a fixed installation here.

@@Marcel_Germann the colours in an NYY-O 3x are brown, black, grey since 2004
@Marcel_Germann
@Marcel_Germann 3 роки тому
@@simonschertler3034 Right, what I stated was used until 2006...I'm afraid I'm becoming old. And I don't remember I ever used the -O, in most cases we use the -J since the protective earth must be everywhere now, even if not required. Partial identification of the PE is not permitted, it must be identified over the whole length of the cable. Only for the neutral it's permitted to identify the visible ends with blue markings like blue heat shrink tubing for example.

Going back to thing's that are SUPPOSED to be waterproof. My Cat S61, ISN'T! I had to send it off as it got water in it and they just give you a repaired phone (like every company does). So my repaired phone is even LESS waterproof now. So there was one time when I give it a quick wash in the sink and I didn't even submerge it n it got water in and packed up. I had to open the flaps and SIM tray n leave it to dry in the airing cupboard for just under a week. It was still working for quite some time after, but there's definitely something wrong with the charging circuit/chip, as the battery voltage seems to be fine. I recon it'll cost shit loads to fix 😪😞
