Imbalance is about the power inequality between benders and non benders. Does that sound familiar somehow?

Damn this is like really good, especially for the comics, this kind of story line would feel at home in the show I reckon. It's like actually a story that makes sense and flows well, it's an interesting premise and angle to take the story that's actually explored and progressed, they aren't just spending the whole time talking about the exact same thing, the conflict and interest naturally develops and builds off of itself. Pretty excited for the rest of this comic I'd say.

The art in this one seems closer to the original design. In the other comics, all the faces are more broad and rounded. I originally thought it was supposed to indicate a growth in age but it seems it was just stylistic and nothing more. The warmer colors also help recreate that vibrant colour scheme of the original show, which was sorely lacking in the other comics, given the dark and bleak thematic undertones and the metallic grey colour scheme that is bound to show up in an industrialized universe.

@redgeoblaze3752

I like how this comic touches on something I felt was oddly lacking in the show. The fact that Aang is a man out of time. He's awoken into a world 100 years in the future from what he's used to. The only friend he has left is Bumi, who lived a whole life without him. The show doesn't really cover this topic much with exception to minor things like the Oasis looking a bit run down, and Fire-nation artistry culture being all but erased by Azulan (just guessing it was him. it probably was.) The conflict in this one is pretty good when you really do a bit of Overanalyzing, like some of us. Something really early on in the show I enjoyed was just how evenly matched a bender and a non-bender can be. Jet beats a master Airbender, Sokka and the other Water Tribe warriors are massively helpful in the invasion, and the playing field is even more equalized (see what I did there) by the inventions of the Mechanist, with stuff like bombs, tanks, grappling hooks, and probably a bunch of the other tech we see the fire nation deploy. This idea of technology supplanting bending as the dominant power of the world has been long coming. and (not to light a molotov) it's pretty realistic for non-benders to want to be the ones on top in society instead of just being equal after so long being at a disadvantage. Yeah benders can be bested by non-benders, but it still takes a lot of training. Way more than it takes to sling around some fire, or a couple rocks. Take Katara in episode 2. No training, just what she's been able to figure out on her own, and she freezes a couple of trained soldiers in their tracks. One last thing I really admire about these comics as a whole is how it's really showing Team Avatar growing up. You mentioned Aang being taller than Sokka, I think that's probably just an error, but Aang does have a more mature facial structure recently. It's really nice to see since I grew up watching the show. I even really liked the flashback segments in Legend of Korra. At least, the first time I saw them.

I love this comic too! By the way, the writer here also changed: all the previous Avatar comic book trilogies were written by Gene Yang. From now on, Faith Erin Hicks is the writer of Avatar comics. After this, she wrote one-shot comic books called Katara And The Pirate's Silver, Toph Beifong's Metalbending Academy and Suki Alone. But Imbalance remains her best work for me, followed by Suki Alone. I look forward to Azula In The Spirit Temple, which will be released later this year, and it's also written by her!

The new art style is super sick. Makes everyone feel a lot older which I appreciate since... They should be older. Though I feel like sokka should be acting a little smarter than how he acts here. Somehow we shelved his leadership growth he evolved over the animated series. A story like this would be perfect to have him help non-benders understand why benders are good. Putting aang here as the focus feels like an unbelievable waste of sokka.

I didnt know that the comic switches artstyles, I really enjoy the new art! I really like this art style. Among other things the shading is way more dramatic and really adds to the vibe each panel is trying to put out. Also the buildings are great, the factories look way more like something that fits the universe than the last time we saw the town. Also I'm less sure about this, but I think this style works better for a comic. The style in the previous comics was closely intimidating the show, which itself is an appealing style. But to me at least, it looks like it's meant for animation and movement (and to make animating easier, less costly etc etc) which is sort of lost in a comic. Where as this style has a sorta static movement to it, characters feel more expressive and seem to lean and bend, not to mention their expressions do a good job conveying the emotion and personality of the characters.

4:20 i think its more like its hard for Toph cause the building is mostly wood and crumbling. Cause if it was a lot of pieces of rock falling and thats why it's hard, then Sand Bending should be an insane feat, but Toph recreated The Fire Nation iirc out of sand, and that would be thou'sands' of grains to control. I think that its more like if you were to hold something you easily have a grasp of, but some materials on top being harder to control.

Omg I loved this Overanalyzing! I have never read a comic in my life (but tons of anime) but with you reading/commenting/describing a comic, I loved it! I would be thrilled to have you do this with any and all comics! Fantastic story telling genius you are! 💙😁😂

I love your patron shoutouts by the way. And for some reason, I always need to stick around to check if Supersnipper is still in the list. I don't know, I just like the name.

The only weird parts are the comic skipping/glossing over some things (like Katara evacuating the building in like 10 seconds), and the villain's daughters both being evil, too. Why can't the 2 lackeys just be other guys?

I remember when I first read this I didn't think much of it. I think I was caught too off guard by the change in artstyle and how this is clearly meant as a throughline between TLA and LoK. But after rereading it...damn, yeah this is one of the best!
