There's no way I will find a way to whine in an extended rant about something totally unrelated to Avatar that will probably make people angry, right?

Wow that ending is crazy. Aang suddenly realizes “Oh yeah, I am the sole owner and dispenser of a type of punishment the world has never seen before.” He hasn’t contemplated the ethical questions that go with that at all. What level of crime justifies losing your bending? Does his role as the Avatar give him the right to dispense this punishment at will? Even if it does, is that morally acceptable? And how close to Ozai-level evil does someone have to be to deserve it? Deep questions that blow all the other comics’ dilemmas out of the water. Awesome.

i think taking away someones bending should really only be used when someone is either -way too dangerous with that bending to even be contained. Like Yakone for example, unless he were to be sealed underground and guarded solely by earthern automatas being controlled away from his reach or something, that man was probably the most dangerous bender alive at some point, unless there was a limit like, a whole ass big army going against him where he cant control all of them at once, but we dont know the real limits of his bending, he used on a room with probably over a hundred people, you just cant keep this guy locked, he probably doesnt even need to bloodbend other people, at his level he could bend his own blood or other body fluids and still kick ass, and sending someone to stop him is just giving him more ammo. -OR if youre some Ozai level of all mighty tyrant who wants to rule the world with iron fist and do not hesitate to cause indiscriminated genocide to accomplish it, so taking away their bending could also serve as means to demoralize those that follow him not only by fear of his physical power which is now gone, but also because they probably wouldnt support him so much seeing he doesnt represent the power they wish to follow anymore. it is also an ultimate punishment aside from just death, so its adequate too.
@234fddesa
@234fddesa 7 місяців тому
you know I dunno. call me crazy but I don't put that much weight on it, as a punishment. normal everyday people are capable of absolutely terrible things anyways, I don't know if it matters that much. yeah it's like a part of her being since she's been a kid or whatever, but I don't really know if that's a particularly convincing argument for someone that was born with like. guns for hands, or something, some stupid metaphor like that. I'm not sure the punishment would "stick", as it were, I don't know if controlling this sort of semi-justified supremacist population by force is really going to be a great solution either, but then I don't think there's a non-complicated solution to this problem that you could do in a comic without it taking like five years of in-universe time. I don't think any of this is going to matter in 50 years of avatar time anyways, with the relative rate of forklift tech advancement, and the state of things in korra, I don't think there's gonna be much of a difference between benders and non-benders.

I think something else that helps make sense why Toph would feel this way is how she was always treated as someone "incomplete" due to her blindness. People treated her differently because she was unable to do something most of the population was able to achieve even despite showing great skill otherwise. Because of this experience, Toph understands that no person is superior to another; even if there are people who can't do what others can.

Sokka after stealing the hat along with avatar kioshi merch kept it in zigzag bag until transferring it to the bag with matching belt. Later he kept it on him during the events of the library just in case. When team avatar arrived at ba sing se he kept his on a stand overlooking his bed remembering to grab it when hastily leaving the city. He had it on him until the invasion where he had it in underneath his helmet. At the air temple sokka kept his hat under his pillow so it was in reach during Azusa’s attack. After that fearing his hats safety he gave it to the white lotus retrieving it after the shows finally. Sokka over many years then proceeded to never be more than a moments notice away from his hat through forklifts and angry southern Eskimos. I mean I get what you're saying about the Aang disguise. But while yes Avatar does subtly have anime references within it like the different Aang costumes in his dreams. In the episode "Balto of the water tribe" there was a character that was arm wrestling June that straight up was Ryu from street fighter. White gi, red headband and spiky brown hair. So while yes Avatar does do their references subtly most of the time. Sometime they just do them on the nose.

Good fanservice with Sokka and paying homage to past episodes. And what an ending, when I watched the end of ATLA I was a bit disappointed with the energy bending technique, but looking at people who's entire lives revolve around this crucial ability, it's like chopping off someone's leg and forcing them to still walk.

6:43 Huge appreciation for the accuracy here in this scene that likely goes entirely unrecognised by most ppl watchin this; except those who for some reason have a special interest in steam trains or boilers What you see in front of Satoru here is exactly what you wud see if a boiler exploded. The mess of pipes is bcuz they heat the steam to power the engines by sendin it thru those pipes and lettin it warm up inside the boiler If the boiler however becomes too hot and the water lvl in it gets too low, the pipes can become exposed to the air and explode out exactly like this. Givin you the horrifyin scene of smth like a train engine with a hundred metal pipes stickin out from it as if smth otherworldy has happened there And why wud Satoru's boiler have ran out of water? Bcuz the firebenders firebended it to boil away the water inside, until it exploded. Whether they intended to do that or were just tryin to melt it, who can say Im just rly impressed by the fact that they actually wanted to make it look like a boiler exploded, instd of just goin with smth more expected like melted wreckage or otherwise what someone wud expect of explodin machinery if they dont have a detailed understandin of how a boiler works

@@commandere2475 Yes, but i went with the presumption of firebender bcuz of the fact that firebenders were mentioned (i cant actually recall if waterbenders were present in the prior comic when the atks were shown) But also i think its just more likely bcuz you cant exactly waterbend the water out of a boiler unless you open it up first, and they wud also be bendin hot water that was rapidly necomin hot air instd and thus its way more risky than the logic of either... Have an earthbender throw a big rock at it or have a firebender burn it down; which seem like the much more likely avenues of destruction that wud be employed here

Ru's storyline has touched me more than most others in the comics. The little barbs from her family, the sheer injustice of it all, compounded with the very real and justified feeling of powerlessness that non-benders understandably feel... it was a brilliant descision by the Avatar team to make bending non-ubiquitous. It's an eternal source of conflict and drama that can never truly be resolved and it beautifully mirrors the systemic injustices of our real world.

I can't exactly say I agree with you on the fact that Aang is dressed up like Spike. If anything, it's just the hair-style, and you've pointed out a ton of times references that are that simple and small. I'd never even thought about how devastating the prospect of taking away someone's bending permanently would be for the Avatar to do. At most, I thought it just seemed like a shoehorned callback when he did it in a flashback in Korra. Of course, it was a central plotline in season 1 of Korra, and they kind of imply that Korra was a bit picky on who she gives her bending back to. Still, I never thought about how an Avatar could abuse such power. This honestly makes me believe in the mystical fourth season that never was just a little bit more. This is a concept that would have tied his no-killing policy together very nicely, since it's sort of a lite version of that. If one crime is heinous enough to warrant taking a life (or bending) then where do you draw the line? can one person even be trusted to draw the line fairly? Should one person even have that kind of power over other people? The Avatar has always been more powerful than any other human, but they've never had the ability to aggress upon humans exclusively in such a way before. There's no defense if the Avatar decides to take away your bending aside from just not letting him touch you, and having a strong enough spirit to be unbendable. I was thinking that little fact alone would make it a risky enough move to never try it again, but given that Aang is a monk, and he's already beaten the most single-mindedly evil man in the world, I'd say he'd only really have some competition against Zaheer maybe.

At least with the Hundred Year War Sozin had the man-power to attempt to eradicate the Avatar by genociding another group of benders; something directly against this lady's movement and pretty much every version of this conflict. Toph's final line is very reminiscent of Amon's whole deal prior the uncreative twist.

Aang becomes a politician in the beginning. "the benders are destroying the property of the non-benders? if the benders just had more power, they could fix this". How many times have we seen that from congress, lol.

In Nightmares and Daydreams, Aang is dressed as Sun Wu Kong, which is the Chinese (original) pronunciation of Son Goku

It’s fine for Aang to not learn metalbending, but from a story stand point it makes no sense. Aang is the only other confirmed person who can do “seismic-sense” which is expressly how metalbending was invented.

I need to remind you that Team Avatar took down the ENTIRE Earth King's castle while Aang was three fourths way through his training in minutes, but can't take down a bunch of politicians lol.

I haven't read this comic before but I would definitely speculate that Aang doesn't want to p!an Bending God by taking people's bending away. Of course Toon would be in major disagreement in this saying that it's the easiest solution for them to take. Of course if Aang made it a habit of taking sides and taking powers away people would read the avatar and not respect him as much as her like. While his powers are for like he's really meant to be a diplomat rather than a ruler. I can't wait to see the result, this was the one comic I guess I didn't know existed or something. Either way great analysis and I can't wait for the next one.

I could be wrong but i believe when liling fixes the statue at 3:19 its because she turns the edges unto lava and bends then together idk how she doesnt get burnt but this is the only explanation that really makes sense

I'd like to offer a counter to the Aang dressed as Spike point and say that I thought it was funny and that it's really not that deep. Also it wouldn't even be the first time we've seen a direct reference to something (there was the man in a bar arm wrestling with June in Book 3 who was basically Ryu from Street Fighter).
