@freycossy-_-6598
@freycossy-_-6598 Рік тому
There's a whole range of theories about the Yowie, but one that I'm particularly fond of is the Megafauna Drop Bear theory. I mean, it's a load of crap, obviously (but remember that Drop Bears are very real and very dangerous), but there's something uniquely Australian about it that I've always loved. Once, three kids snuck out while on camp and one sat on another's shoulders and they pretended to be the Yowie while the third took a picture. Everyone knew it was fake, but it became an inside joke for our whole school. The community around Bigfoot, or the Yowie, or Sasquatch, or whatever is, in my opinion, far more interesting than the actual creature, and at the end of the day, it can just be a bit of fun to entertain a friend, or scare a cousin, or wind up a teacher.

Honestly, the claim "Bigfoot, and possibly other cryptids, are simply aliens, which is why there's sightings but no evidence left behind" could fit pretty well in a sci-fi story. I could see an episode of Star Trek where they encounter a race of Sasquatch, who say "Oh, your planet is on a disputed trade route, so occasionally a damaged ship has to crash land there. We try to stay away from your populations while waiting for a ship to come pick us up"

The point i always think of when it comes to bigfoot is that every myth has a nugget of truth somewhere that has exploded over the years. I look at the Kraken from mythology. A giant squid that could sink a ship, typical mythical monster right? Can't exist. But then we found it.A fishing boat just found one floating in the water and managed to freeze it. The Colossal squid, a massive 10 meter (30 feet) squid with a spiked club. Is it as big as the myth? Of course not but it checks all the boxes of being a massive tentacle monster that might have attacked one wooden ship hundreds of years ago and became bigger and scarier each time the story was told. The reason it took so long to find is because the ocean is massive and squids decompose very quickly. I think to this day we've only found maybe 2 or 3 and all of them female so we don't actually know how big a male would be. Anyway my point is I think there is a nugget of truth that sparked the story in the first place. It wont be as big or magical as some of the stories say but i feel like there will be something. They can't all be some drunk guy in a fur suit (If you haven't seen "Pottersville" it's a pretty funny but weird christmas bigfoot movie on netflix)
@TheLithp
@TheLithp Рік тому
Giant squids have been known of since at least 1850, thanks to corpses, it's just very unlikely that it or the colossal would ever attack a ship, considering they live too far down, and much more likely sailors just made that part up. Also, you saw the same video I did, there are tons of explanations of bigfoot sightings. But many seem like they won't be satisfied unless there’s some kind of ape man, a kind of Bigfoot of the Gaps argument. The vast majority of sasquatch claims must be false, there’s simply no way they could be all over the world & completely unknown to science. And if that's the case, they could ALL be easily made up.

I get what your saying so here’s my rational take on it at some point in history there was a tall person(6’5-7 ft range) that had werewolf syndrome which if anyone doesn’t know is an extremely rare genetic condition that causes excessive hair growth all over the body including all parts of the face and head,neck, torso, etc (but no fangs, pointed ears or claws lol) seriously look at pictures of these people they look like Bigfoot anyways I think maybe a tall person with this condition became a hermit for whatever reason probably cast out from society because people did that a lot to people different from them throughout human history and lived in the woods as a lonely hermit knowing to stay away from everyone else because he/she would be seen as a monster and not all people would be aware of this and after catching glimpses of this person and the details kept getting more exaggerated as time went on plus being 7ft is super rare also which would explain why no one has seen a specific individual like this since that’s honestly the only rational explanation I have for Sasquatch

Personally I originally thought the Patterson film was faked: then I waited decades for the evidence to come out to prove it was faked, then people who came out and said it was fake were obviously fake themselves, then I read a book by a scientist who studies monkey feet, and just like you, I said, wait monkey feet and yes his dissertation was on chimpanzee foot mechanics. When he talked about the film, he said you can't make a costume make the feet bend like that...then he said midtarsal break 8,346 times and now I know less about the authenticity of the film that I did as a little kid when it showed on the news. Side note, during one study when the chimps realized the people were studying their tracks, the monkeys started erasing them.

So it’s not reliable, unless it’s two different people/Bigfoot. The latter being a wash since both Witnesses claim the same one walked up and away…then turned and went out in the open across the creek bed. How that made sense to them is beyond me. Funny thing, Bigfoot isnt actually the first sasquatch in North America. New England, unsurprisingly, as it was where the first major colonial settlements were, had the first sightings of a "man-like animal" way way back. Then, New England, again, had sightings of Man Beasts, Agropelters, and even deer- and moose-men. the the Florida Skunk-Ape was encountered by the Spanish settlers, and would be the first one named that still has its same name today. as you said, the idea of large, human like things in the woods is an ancient one, so its not surprising that it happened over and over again all around the world. Bigfoot, Skunk-Ape, Yeti, Yowie, Man-Monkey, Pithecus, tons of them from Asia to Australia, to America.

I’m in two camps on the whole Bigfoot thing. On one hand, I know of several instances where locals say a thing exists, and “professionals” and “scientists” say it doesn’t. What did the locals do? They shot it, brought it in, and said “You’re right, this doesn’t exist.” Professionals denied it for a while, said it was brought in from out of state, then eventually claimed they always knew. My Grandma had stories like that, she was the one who brought in the coyote/wolf (Coywolf) which “didn’t exist”. So I have no trouble believing something exists, but we’re told, by authority figures, that we’re stupid if we believe it. On the other hand, I bring it back to my Grandma. If it did exist, and in the USA? Someone would have shot one by now. So, I have serious doubts on them existing. Edit* I feel I should mention; the Coywolves were killing her farm animals, she was protecting them, not hunting for fun. She asked permission to shoot them, they said she was lying about them existing, (this was 60-70 years ago) things spiraled from there.

The government created Indian agents to assimilate/destroy our culture and anglicized our language changing our native word from "saskets" to "sasquatch" which is where the word comes from. They are nice beings that take care of the spirit world and our physical world that's why we can't see them all the time.

First that's factually false, the first article about gorilla was written in 1847 after a scientist analysed gorilla remains, the first sighting by a westerner was around 1856, and the first corpse was brought to europe in 1861. I think you confused gorilla and panda, the first sighting of a live panda by a westerner was in 1916, and the first panda hunted by a westerner was in 1920. But one thing to keep in mind is that Panda were already well known in the region by native population. Panda were hunted and skins and bones while rare still existed, actually the first evidence of panda existing that european got was a skin offered by a hunter in 1869. Chinese history and mythology made reference to them, bone were were buried with notable historical figure, and some were also allegedly offered to japan during the 7th century. We do not have that wealth of evidence for big foot.

My theory: The origin of Sasquatch, which became the mythos of Bigfoot, is based on encounters that early indigenous Americans had with Arctodus Simus (North American Short-Faced Bear). Unlike the modern bears we encounter in North America (Grizzley/Brown Bear, Kodiak Bear, Black Bear, and Polar Bear) Arctodus Simus was most likely a painted bear similar to its cousin and closest living relative the Spectacled Bear of South America. In as such, it most likely had facial fur coloration that may have obscured its facial features. Thus, making it difficult to identify it as a bear. These massive bears stood taller than modern Polar Bears, the tallest living species today, which when on all fours stood as tall as a human and upright stood twice the height of a human, would have been absolutely frightening to any human prehistoric or living. Whereas we have absolutely no skeletal remains of Sasquatch from anywhere in the US, or the world for that matter, fossil evidence exists across the Pacific coast and as far east as Ohio and Tennessee for Arctodus Simus. Arctodus Simus' suspected feeding habits also fit with indigenous American stories regarding Sasquatch, in that Sasquatch would often arrive at settlements of the Pacific Northwest tribes after successful hunting/fishing expeditions. Arctodus Simus is believed to have been foremost a scavenger. While it may have attempted to run down prey, it is largely believed to have scavenged off of prey other carnivores brought down. This would also fit with why there haven't been any indisputable sightings and modern evidence of the existence of Sasquatch. Arctodus Simus went extinct about 12,000 years ago. Well after humans began coming to the Americas. It's return to American folklore would come about in the 1950's largely due to the rise in interest of American folklore stories. Paul Bunyan, Johnny Appleseed, George Washington (and the Cherry Tree), etc. These stories, both historical and mythical, became popular. Likewise, we have always been interested in cryptid species, such as the Lochness Monster, mermaids, sea monsters, etc.

A lot of stories like this are a cultural thing. Stories from your people affect how you see the world around you, and if those stories are _old_ as many First Nations ones are, the core ideas can stay, but specifics will absolutely shift as cultures do. Humans have been on the west coast for at _least_ twenty thousand years - White Sands footprints - and probably longer. That much time with primarily oral traditions will result in some shifts in interpretation of stories like a large bear living a similar lifestyle to the people of the time becomes a large person over the generations.
