Expectations: new GPU silicon, better memory subsystem, 10-15% faster than 7600, MSRP $300. Reality: basically an overclocked 7600 with 16GB VRAM and $60 premium, gets destroyed by 6700XT at the same price. It seems like AMD really are allergic to gaining market share.

The performance gains on sub 500$ cards are a big joke in this gen. 3060ti beats the 4060ti in some titles. Same with the 7600xt loses to old 6650xt and so on. This needed to be at least 6700xt level for 300$ for it to make any sense for anyone to buy.

So this is basically what the $269 card should be and the 7600 needs to be $199. Don’t get me wrong I love AMD and these aren’t bad cards, I think they should just work on the pricing. 7800xt for $500, 7900xt for $700-$720 and the 7900xtx for $850-$900 aren’t bad prices but the 7700xt, 7600xt and 7600 feel overpriced. 7700xt for $369-399 should be a good deal, 7600xt for $269-279 and the 7600 for $199.

@zodwraith5745
@zodwraith5745 3 місяці тому
Even the ones you can argue for have issues. The 7800xt looks ok against the 4070, but bad against AMD's own 6800xt, and both 7900s are way too much to pay for GPUs that can't even do competent raytracing. Who wants to pay over $700 for a new GPU that still has compromises? Pretty much everything from 7000 series is just a fat disappointment and the only reason anyone even pays attention is because Nvidia is overpriced. But the whole reason Nvidia is _gaining_ market share is because once you hold your nose and pay Nvidia's greed tax you have a superior experience due to better upscaling, better frame gen, and vastly better RT performance. This is why Steve and Tim say AMD really needs to be 20% cheaper than Nvidia to be competitive.
@MrMartinSchou
@MrMartinSchou 3 місяці тому
Yeah, it's the AMD version of the 4060 Ti 16 GB, just in a lower performance tier. Expensive memory upgrade at the cost of power draw, but Nvidia has a far less severe power consumption hit. For example, the performance jump at 1440p is 4.7%/18.8% for the 7600XT and 2.5%/23.6% for the 4060Ti 16 GB.

What is also interesting to me here, is how well the Intel Arc A770 16 GB holds up *on average*, after a significant number of driver improvements. The RT performance especially, is relatively speaking, respectable. I do own one (not in use currently), and it does seem to have moved from technical curio into a reasonably interesting card. Given it seems to have been built to compete with GeForce 30-series(?), perhaps it bodes decently for Battlemage, if it arrives. Good to see more cards in the low- to mid-range GPUs.

I think the resolution scaling shows there's still some performance left on the table for ARC, especially at 1080p. The drivers have at least matured to the point that most games work. It would be nice to see Intel expand to working with developers to ensure better support on day 1 (they seem to be making a little progress there). Undervolting controls would also be nice.

Not to mention the cost per frame of the A750 that's actually 10 bucks less than Steve has it listed. It's been only $200 for quite a while now. Their drivers are starting to get good enough I probably wouldn't recommend people avoid it anymore.
@nimrodery
@nimrodery 3 місяці тому
@@Neopulse00 I would have bought either the 6600 or 7600, they both retailed higher than the A750 and you can turn on raytracing without crippling the GPU. Intel just seems to be better at getting their GPUs to sell at MSRP (or less). If you're comparing the 7600 to the A770 there is definitely a market pricing problem.

Was waiting for this but take too long so I tried getting into 2nd hand market and bought Sapphire Pulse 6700 XT at 200$ 3 weeks ago. Got some problem with it at first as my system won't boot at 3600MHz RAM (GSkill Trident Z RGB 3600MHz 2x8) so I changed it to 3200 and it runs fine. 2 weeks after another problem occur like game crash, hang, even BSOD, so tried reinstalling Windows since I use the onboard graphic before, 5600G, so it could be driver issue, tried with DDU but no dice, so I thought let's just reinstall but still same issue. I thought it was my graphic card but turned out it was my RAM slots all along. Once I moved it to A2B2, my system runs fine and it stays at 3600 MHz just fine. Now, It runs undervolted at stock clock and runs fine without any issue (temp at around 70-75C at full load). Great purchase. 3070 was around 325-350$ so I go AMD. It usually matters when there's higher resolutions at play to keep your GPU cores fed. Considering the 7600XT lacks the corecount, the buswidth isn't too relevant (as is 16gb's worth of memory, 12 would've been more than sufficient for the performance level of this GPU).

Such information is both interesting and useful: lots of people have 4k TVs these days. Think of parents bringing the PC into the living room so a child can be supervised while playing. Something extra I would like to see you test somehow is performance and stability while streaming. One content creator I watch had problems streaming Jedi Survivor on a RTX card until he added a second RTX card to handle the streaming. The issue may have been VRAM usage. But I appreciate you have only so much time. I was surprised and pleased to see how well the Arc A770 fared, and I think it deserved more mention. Still pretty happy with my 7600 Hellhound (8G of course) I bought half a year ago for 219€, including shipping and a copy of Starfield. The only thing I would complain about is that undervolting is almost impossible, still not sure why. Runs stable with 2900Mhz boost at 1.185V (instead of 1.2). But even with reduced boost I can't really reduce voltage by a reasonable margin. Question: Is there a use for those small bus big VRAM cards? Like are they good at something like encoding, AI stuff, Photoshop etc?
@TheKazragore
@TheKazragore 3 місяці тому
It allows them to hold more data in memory. For games, the most notable use is textures. Skyrim is an old game, but with texture mods I saw it regularly exceed 14Gb in 1440p. The big unknown is what will devs, who can now see clearly that more VRAM is in the offing for new cards, do with that increased headroom they're being given. Only time will tell.

Both HU hosts seem to consistently refer to the standard/traditional GPU temperature reading as "junction", but I believe (and Wikipedia agrees) that: "Junction temperature, short for transistor junction temperature, is the highest operating temperature of the actual semiconductor in an electronic device". So "junction" = "hotspot". The standard temperature is then "edge" or whatever.

And the switch was actually pretty much seamless, everything worked out of the box without driver issues (using DDU), it immediately took custom profiles, heavily modded and dll-injected games like Skyrim just worked, custom app profiles and undervolting was super easy. FSR is a bit of a bummer, don't like the way it looks at all. XeSS pretty much always looks better to me, ideally all future games will let you choose between them.

It seems like the big VRAM scare of last year has largely blown over.. Many games dont need anywhere close to 12gb until you get into RT ultra 1440p, or even 4k quality.. resolutions and graphics features that underpowered cards don't even have the raw horsepower to run in the first place. That, coupled with the fact that a lot of UE5 games seem to be maxing out VRAM usage UNDER 8gb, and the fact that many VRAM hogs at launch have been patched by developers (PS5 ports in particular) says to me that 16gb on an entry level/1080p card is just marketing overkill and a response to a concern peddled by PC gaming journalists who blew the situation out of proportion. In short, this thing will run out of raster power long before it ever actually needs anywhere near 16gb of vram.

A couple of years ago, I built a gaming PC for the teenage son of a relative. It has a Ryzen 5 3600, but it was back when graphics cards cost a kidney, so it has only a GTX 1650 Super. My favourite online PC hardware store offers a "used" (but not for long) ASUS "Dual" 7600XT in their "Outlet" store for 349.00 EUR (some 374.75 USD or 577 AUD). The 16 GB RAM may be interesting? This online store offers a few cheaper 4060's and several more expensive 4060Ti's. They don't offer the 6700 XT anymore (only the 6700), nor any 6800/XT. I don't know how much money the dad is willing to spend on a new graphics card, but I think 349 EUR - 375 USD - 577 AUD would probably be not too much. Upgrading the teenage son's PC with, say, a R7 5700X3D (I see no 5600X3D) and said 7600XT might be a nice upgrade. Last time I knew, the son mainly played Fortnite on (I think?) a 32-inch monitor, resolution unknown to me. Is 349 EUR - 375 USD - 577 AUD too much for this "Outlet store" 7600XT?

This "missing picture quality", ie, fudged frames, problem sux, it would be a big PITA recording the test footage and comparing it every time when it has to run for 30min to become apparent.

Thanks for review and well said Steve : "Another frustrating release from AMD". They really should have made at least something equal to 6700 xt in terms of performance

What I have learn looking through dozens of videos to decide which GPU to buy and deciding for 7600XT is that you get what you pay for. Sure the better ones are better but are also more expensive almost at a linear rate. I was going to get a 6800 because on all the reviews it is the best bang for buck, but the bucks were not there 50% more expensive than the 7600xt, it would have thrown off my budget. It is hard not to buy the best there is but hey I have been gaming and using blender pretty decently with a 1650 for the last 4 years, this card is a fair upgrade to that one. To me 60 frames at 1440p is more than enough, dont care that much about ray tracing. And using those AMD image upsacelers I cant tell the difference, I left my bragging brain at college a long time ago. "Yes but you cant game at 220fps" dude I dont even notice the difference past 120. Also some of the cards in comparisson above the 7600XT where way above 50% more expensive or where 8GB, and I rather gane at 30fps stable than have stutters.
