What I want from the 50 series is 4080 performance at 200 W with 16/18 GB of VRAM (the second option is possible with 3 GB modules that Micron announced). I am never buying a 300+ W heater ever again.

in regards to wider Ray tracing support in games : it doesn't matter what the top end, sell-your-house-to-afford, GPU can do . what matters is what 300-400 video card can do , or what the 500-600 dollar video card can do. that's where it really matters for RT adoption going forward. if nvidia keeps kneecapping their low, low-mid, mid, and mid-high end cards with not enough vram to handle RT at higher resolutions. then RT will still have a few more generations to go before complete market saturation. modern gaming was at it's best , and video card sales were at their best on teh 1000 series because we got to apoint where 1080p was the Main resolution and even the low end cards could pull it of at 60FPS with settings high . and the higher tier cards offered 4k gaming at 60+ fps at the time for a few years. now here's the problem going into RT. 1440p has become the main resolution , soon 4k will be , but the low end cards of the 3000 series and 4000 series have no hope of running RT at 4k with 60+FPS. if this trend continues with the 5000 series then it will also knee cap RT's further development as well. the 5060 is gonna have to have 12 gb bare minimum the 5070 will have to go 16gb and this means the 5080 will have to go atleast to 20gb. the 5060 wil have to be able to atleast match a 4070 super , the 5070 wil have beat a 4080 by at least 15% and the 5080 wil have to atleast match the 4090 , but i don't see this happening . with nividia's AI chip mentality they'll want to cut massive corners on any chip below 1000 bucks , because they will already view a $1600 5090 as a loss because that silicon could be put to an AI chip that sells at 40-60k per card , instead of a card taht only sells for $1600. they''ll view a $2500 rtx titan as a loss too. yes that is the point we are at; where money and greed will hold back lower cost technological advancement. here's what i actualy expect from the 5000 series amazing RTX titan that cost 2k+ amazing 5090 that cost north of $1600 a 5080 that is about 10 % faster than a 4080 super , but will cost north of $1,100 a 5070 that is maybe 5-10% faster than the 4070 super but will cost $750-800 a 5060 that about 5% better than a 4060ti or on par with a 4070 (non super), but cost $600 and nvidia will be like " but DLSS 4.0 with frame Gen 2.0 ! it's 5X faster than last gen !!" and they'll compare last gen dlss and FG off , to 5000 series with DLSS and FG on and the reality is it'll only be 50% faster than last gen with those techs turned off on last gen. the way nvidia employees have constantly tried to sell us of DLSS and FG as the future is why i think this is how it'll really go down. like the dumb-a that said FG frames are more real than actual raw frames. god i loved the 2005-2018 era of pc gaming . the era where a $1000-$1200 dollar pc could have you playing 99% of games at max setting on the current highest resolution. i swear if i have to struggle to play games at max settings on a pc that is gonna cost me $2,500-3000 dollars, or put up with consoles that have NO physical media at all, i'll just be done with gaming. I'm 44 and i don't have the engergy for headaches when i'm trying to just game or enjoy what i spend money on. EDIT: the XTX matches the 3090 in RT not the 4090.

The 4090s are only just starting to drop in price. We still have till fall before the 5090 is even being thought of getting released. They’re gonna milk tax season then release it right before summer break so you won’t have money to do anything else over the summer.

would they really release another Titan with just 24GB? The TITAN RTX from 20-series in 2018 had 24GB.

The problem with using the 5090 to gauge Blackwell as a whole, is that the 4090 is cut down by a good bit. So comparing the generational uplift could be difficult if they won't be cutting down the 5090 by the same amount. There's a real chance that 80 and lower class cards will see a lower generation improvement than what we saw from Ampere to Lovelace. They REALLY need to cut pricing if that's the case.

Sorry I am skeptical that a 60% raster boost, if accurate, could ever translate into a 2.5x RT gain unless there is a fundamental redesign we're unaware of. If the cache structure changes are true that'll help, but I think 2x is the absolute most anyone should expect. Even the 4090 uplift wasn't close to 2.5x, and the growing consensus seems to be that the 5090 won't offer as big an uplift (edit: in raster, I mean).

With the higher power CPUs that are to come, the RTX 4090 will be used to it's full potential . I wonder what this new beast of a card would be needed for?

Unless the price is obscene or it fails my benchmarks I'm going to buy as soon as available. I can average 5ms per 512x512 1 step sd-turbo now, and 37ms for 4 step 512x512 LCM. I have realtime video with my 4090 but if the 5090 is "fat" cuda core wise perhaps I can do 1024x1024 sdlx LCM in realtime.

The reason i wont consider the higher series cards is i dont want to pay a higher electric bill just to play games. It adds up quickly on longer sessions.

Value was the only weakness of the RTX40 series. If they can fix that, I'm looking forward to the next generation. Give me a good card for $399 without any weird cuts and I'm happy. Doesn't have to be high-end. Just a card I feel good after buying it. ;)

I think raytracing will be more widely used in two generations. It will still be upper market next gen. Atm it in the mid to high range of graphics cards where it is deemed usable. we need a solid mid tier card first. I'm not sure we will see these specs your saying. I'll believe when I see it.

the big problem with raytracing i notice is thatwhen implemented really well like in Alan wake 2 the non raytraced version look worse than in past titles where raytracing didnt exist yet

Need raytracing with no dlss or other upsampling technologies, that way you can see it implemented in competitive fps titles and not just single player games.

Also, AMD are about 1 generation behind NVDA with Raytracing. Id expect $ for $ the 8000 series to have similar RT performance as the NVDA 4000 series.

yea, the 5000 should be doing actual raytracing and maybe without always needing dlss with these specs. I have a 4080 and i get great rtx performance. i feel like the 4080/90 are actually capable rtx cards considering you can at least achieve a 60+fps experience in rt+pt AAA games with minimal upscaling. If you increase that by 90%, well its obvious you're gonna go beyond that level of performance while needing even less upscaling. Radeon needs a real RT card. they just dont have one and its hurting them.

I have tried RT in every game that will use it and have looked for some appreciable difference in game quality and it is so small that it is never worth the framerate hit my game has to take. Maybe 10 years from now when the technology is able to run what future RT can produce, but as for today Raytracing is modern day Snake oil. PT Barnum said it best. There's a sucker born every minute.

Raytracing is absolutely the future. The next 4 releases (RTX 50, 60, 70, 80?) are going to propel it to standard use, like 3D cards did when the 3dfx and voodoo cards came out. It will move things from looking like CG pixar like materials and lighting to photo realistic or even better, in person looking graphics.

I think we have about 3 more generations before we see RT become standard. They really need to optimize RT so it isn't as hard on gpu's. Also wtf ever happened to mesh shaders?

Since 90 class card is a halo product and few gamers can afford, I don’t think 90 class is or should be the performance mark rather than the 60 or 70 class. I hope the 5070 is more price and performance friendly than the 40 series. I really don’t give a crap about 90 class as I can’t afford it.

If RDNA4 gets delayed while they're trying to advance RDNA5 to compensate for RDNA4's high-end already being canceled, there's going to be a point where we gotta wonder if RDNA4 ever sees the light of day. Stack on that it seems to be taking forever for AMD to finish off remaining 6000-series inventory and that's gotta be backing up their 7000-series as well this late in the generation. Whatever AMD does I hope the end result is them pulling themselves together. Disappointed as I was about RDNA4 not having a high-end, I was still looking forward to even a mid-range, 7900GRE/XT-level 8000-series card to put in one of my rigs.

I hope it'll be more double the price of the 4090, cause I'm in the process of building a brand new gaming pc with the best possible specs (6k budget) and I don't wanna regret getting a 4090 if the 5090 is only a bit more expensive. Hopefully it'll cost like 3k+ 💀

hi graphically challenged , to answer your question , yes , yes i think ray-tracing will become the norm as we (as human gamers) strive for always more and more lifelike graphics (and or immersion) . do games like stardew valley have their places in gaming ? yes of course ! i am personally all for the diversity of games one can enjoy . one thing tho , we cant deny that true ray-tracing do helps devs with alleviating tedious workloads regarding everything light related . add a light source to a desk lamp , use ray-tracing and voila , in the evening your lamp properly emits light against the surface of your desk with the correct shades due to the material property of everything being lit . now scale that by a lot . same desk lamp but now its a university library with 50 of them . only place the lamps at equal distance (plus maybe a little copy paste here and there for an even faster distribution) , activate raytracing , voila a fully lit library study area in less than 10 mins . now remove rtx features and youll spend hours placing every desk lamp light sources and tweak them manually for a good lighting result . thats why i love ray-tracing . more immersion , less time wasted by the person(s) in charge of lighting to place and configure everything manually .

The last absolutely killer card was the 1080 TI and I doubt they are going to be giving anyone that kind of value again since nothing they've ACTUALLY DONE in years points to that. So just remember, if it does come out, you're gonna be paying out the ass for it but hell I'd take out a 5 year loan on one if they offered it :D

Its all good having something like this but not even the top end consumer cpu's. Can run the 4090 to its full potential.

That 2 times improvement is with dlss and frame gen. They said the same claims with the 4090 and? It wasn't even close until you used upscaling and frame gen and still fell short.... But good marketing to keep their name on top! 😝
