It's a $150 +$75-100 for a mobo then $50 for RAM, all in maybe $300 and you have a great 6 core system. I've built 3 systems this year with a 5600X specifically for friends on a budget. 5600x3d is more interesting anyways. It keeps up 1:1, is cheaper, and further showcases what 6 cores are capable of when done right. It's far easier to extrapolate 5700x3d results out of a 5800x3d because the boost clock is the only difference.

@andersjjensen
@andersjjensen 28 днів тому
@@KittyKatKya The 2500k became that legendary because Intel started eating their crayons and sniffing their glue right after Sandy Bridge. I mean, we're all glad they did, as that gave AMD the breathing room they needed to sell their fabs, fend off bankruptcy, come up with Zen and start making a comeback. But strictly speaking, the 2500k wasn't a massive leap over it's predecessor. A notable one, compared to what came after, but nothing out of the ordinary. 3D V-Cache, however, hit like a lightening strike from a clear blue sky. Nobody saw that coming. And it came after AMD had thoroughly shown Intel who was boss in both power efficiency and multi threaded performance. But... the 5800X3D won't be as long lived as the 2500k, as now the gaming industry actually expect CPU gaming performance to increase by 20-30% every 2 years again.

@KittyKatKya
@KittyKatKya 28 днів тому
@@andersjjensen Wasn't really commenting on a specific reason as to why it was held up so highly, only that when you have any chip that so ubiquitously gets held up as "the" one to get, it's going to become a benchmark that people will repeatedly ask about for years to come, even if it can't keep up for an extended period of time. It becomes a, for better or for worse, standard for comparison because so many become familiar with it. That said, while I wouldn't say it was some massive leap versus the gen that came before it, it was a large enough one *combined with* the absolutely silly overclocking headroom that gave it such a big name, even when Ivy (and more so) Haswell were seen as decent developments.

@ocudagledam 28 днів тому
Regarding the remark for people building a new system, I think that the performance of 7600X is also noteworthy. Under 5% performance margin is virtually indistinguishable and that CPU is significantly cheaper than a 5800X3D, enough to offset any additional platform cost of AM5. So anyone thinking "I'm on a budget and the 5800X3D is a beast; AM5 is nice, but the boards and DDR5 are more expensive", you can actually get the same level of performance for the same amount of money on AM5. And you'll have an upgrade path to even better CPUs (pretty much any other AM5 model, save for the 7600 non-X and 7500F, which are very close in performance as well and so likewise awesome options, being even cheaper).
@angeltzepesh1
@angeltzepesh1 28 днів тому
I agree with this statement, 7600x is a beast of a CPU and if you really need more performance in a few years, you can just drop a 7800x3d, maybe even a 9000 series Ryzen when they launch. New builds on AM4 should be considered only for very tight budgets.

that's something I have to keep emphasizing whenever there's too much AM4 veneration in the comments of someone asking for PC parts suggestions. You can defacto get the 5800X3D as the entry level CPU of AM5, and should you want to upgrade to say a 9800X3D down the road... you'll have that option. The 5800X3D for new system builders is just kicking down the cost of a full platform upgrade down the road, so I hardly consider it an unequivocal W in terms of value.

Zen 6 (10/11x00) is already confirmed in development (don't recall the codename) and I cannot fathom that they'd change the Ryzen naming/branding of a popular lineup that will likely still be on AM5. "Zen 7" is the first chance for them to move away from the Zen/Ryzen numbering and branding, since they're expected to keep it until AM5 ends. DDR6 is the limiting factor here, if AMD doesn't pull an Intel and move to new chipsets (DDR6 is not commercially available, engineering samples barely exist for the lowest speeds, and JEDEC standard timings have not been locked in). Purchasable DDR6 is easily 2 years away, as many as 4, and may contribute to whether we see 2, 3, or even 4 Zen gens on AM5/DDR5. With x3D v-cache in mind, AMD is less dependent on RAM speeds for performance than Intel (at the moment), so they could arrive a full year late to DDR6 with a "post-Zen" processor and not really get punished for it

I honestly think because I'm 1080p 144hz for life, I will probably get more lifetime out of AM4 and just go 5800x3d, and skip AM5 entirely and then upgrade the next time they release a new motherboard series. In the UK the price difference between 5800x3d and 5700x3d is only like £35, doesn't make sense to go for the lower CPU at these breakpoints.

The reason for using 720p/1080p for CPU gaming benchmarks is simple: 1) FPS is a combined result of CPU and GPU performance and is always the slower of the two. 2) A CPU's function is to operate game mechanics and send draw calls to the GPU. 3) A CPU's performance is not affected by resolution or graphics settings. 4) A GPU's performance is significantly affected by resolution and graphics settings. Therefore, a CPU will have the same performance at 2160p that it does at 720p. Since the FPS rate is always determined by the smallest performance number of the CPU and GPU, a benchmarker will make it very easy on the GPU with low resolution so that we can see what the CPU can do when not encumbered by an overworked GPU. There, I said it for you Steve! 😁

@Hugh_I
@Hugh_I 28 днів тому
Just note that while getting away with -20 is probably fine for the lower clocked X3D CCD, it does depend on your silicon lottery luck whether your CPU can do it. I had my 7950X (non-X3D) running ok with -20 for a while, but after heating up under heavy load it occasionally got unstable and I had to be a little less aggressive on that setting. So do your stability testing if you do this. I would recommend lowering the value until you see instability, then back off by ~5mV to be on the safe side.
@Fayzon11
@Fayzon11 28 днів тому
@@Hugh_I Absolutely, however on a 7950x3d -20 is the generic recomended safe bet for people that arent overly confident in OC practices. You would have to be really unlucky to get a 7950x3d where a negative offset of 20 isnt acheivable. The key part to killer gaming performance is really setting the cpu to favor that 3d cache anyway.

I do have the 7950X3D and I like to say for comparison, that this CPU is made by the 7700X plus the 7800X3D. In comparison to the 7700X has this CPU a 300MHz higher boostclock on the eaquivalent part of the CPU and in comparison to the 7800X3D, the boostclock is 200MHz higher on the equivalent part of the CPU. Basic-Clockspeeds with none optimization! You can turn OFF the CCD without the X3D-Cache in the BIOS, but only if you do this at stock-settings. After that, you can save a profile with this basic-setting and after that, you can adjust what ever you want and save it into this profile as well. At the end, you got the luxury choice, to create profiles for higher workloads with both CCD's active or just a gaming profile only with the CCD0. Using the 7950X3D as a 7700X or as a 7800X3D will how ever gain you higher boostclocks and this way more performance. In sight of pricing comes the 7950X3D here for at minimum 599€, but the 7700X and the 7800X3D together would cost 643,48€ and if you switch between them, you would have to rebuild a part of your system every time and you aren't able to use them together and that's why I think, that the 7950X3D is a great deal. By Optimization, my CCD1 boosts up to 5.820MHz what's +120MHz above basic-boostclocks, ... the overall core-performance is also increased ..., but how ever this is at the end 420MHz above the performance of the 7700X. My CCD0 with the X3D-Cache equal to a 7800X3D is boosting up to 5.397MHz what's an additional uplift by 197MHz against stock-settings and this is at the end 397MHz above the basic-boostclock of a 7800X3D. You can turn and twist the infos as you want - the 7950X3D is that beast of a CPU. - So much performance for the price and this possibilities to optimize my system is more that I ever imagined. @Cyberpunk 2077 with Preset "HIGH" with the 7950X3D CCD1=Off in combination with a RTX 3090 Ti: 1% low: fps AVG: 215(.13)fps @Cyberpunk 2077 with Preset "HIGH" with the 7950X3D CCD0+1=On in combination with a RTX 3090 Ti: 1% low: fps AVG: 185(.11)fps 1% low I still have to record (if wished by comments). VS. 1% low: 165fps AVG: 186fps With a tested 7950X3D and a RTX 4090. VS. 1% low: 175fps AVG: 194fps With a tested 7800X3D and a RTX 4090.

A good deal on a 7800x3D finally pushed me to upgrade to AM5. Just cant go wrong considering how long this system can potentialoy last.

Help. I've got an 7800x3d and it is a brilliant cpu, however Be Quiet Pure Loop 2 360 screams like crazy when left on stock settings. Had to set up the temp limit to 75 degrees max, voltage offset -20. That way cooling does behave fairly well with a custom curve applied as well, I do notice however that max frequency dropped by nearly 200 Mhz. Any recommendations for a better AIO? Case has a very decent airflow

Super cool Antec sponsored this video. The Performance 1 Silent is such a good case and it has an option for a solid side panel for those who don't want the glass fishbowl look. great cooling and great design for a full size case

I think the reason that having some older equipment is valuable is to show potential upgrade options for people looking to make new builds. So they can get an idea of what they'll get for their money. But as you mentioned, just look at other CPU's which are comparable to yours in those benchmarks to get an idea.

Us 5800X3D owners just need the copium that we made the right choice and don’t need to upgrade, thanks Steve!

Is the performance better with w11 vs. w10 for scheduling when playing games with the 7900x3d and 7950x3d, Just wondering.

I personally appreciate that you included this comparison, as at the time it was a premium of 300-500 to purchase the 7000 series CPUs. I would be greatly appreciative if, in the future, the inclusion of the 5000 series x3d chips is also considered. We would all understand if these changes occur down the line.

is there a chance you guys could make a video on if and how much manually tuning ram helps? and maybe also with different generations (ryzen 3000, 5000 and 7000 for example). i think itd help people get even more performance out of what they have
