multiply the by 10 or 12 then yea you will get that uplift. This is intels first step in their response. Soon enough they will add their own version of x3d and then there will literally be zero reason to buy AMD cpus
@kaseyboles30
@kaseyboles30 Місяць тому
@@iequalsnoob !0-12% does make more sense. Of course AMD won't be sitting still. By the time Intel figures out how to do huge cache AMD will have something else. That's the downside to Intel being so big, takes them longer to adapt to the competition. AMD has moved faster of late. Intel did it's e-cores, and now AMD already has the superior c-cores, and Intel is still catching up to chiplets and 3d cache.

Hyprthreading was causing esoteric security problems like side channel attacks exploiting speculative execution performance differences, it also costs die area for performance critical resources that makes less sense in an environment when you have more and more physical cores that could benefit from those resources (PC+instruction cache, Branch prediction, register stacks, L0 etc.) All the stuff you might prefer to expand an improve for best single core performance. Hyperthreading was introduced when consumer chips had one physical core, the Xeons that used it first had 4 cores.
@kaseyboles30
@kaseyboles30 Місяць тому
Hyperthreading gives you about a 30% boost over not. And back in the dual/quad core days it made a lot of sense. And it still makes a lot of sense for many situations. But now that 8 cores is mainstream, and more is not an issue (I run two 6 core /12 thread machines and my main is a 12/24) It's less of a practical benefit. It makes me think the ideal for home use is somewhere between Intel and AMD. A few full cores with hyperthreading and big caches, and a bunch of lesser cores between what Intel has and what AMD has. I think AMD is a bit closer as their c cores are fully functional, just less cache and space optimized a bit. If they also trimmed out the extras needed for hyperthreading I think that might be a winner. Intel cut out other functions that AMD didn't. Perhaps AMD could add back in a bit of cache and keep the same size if they get rid of HT in their c cores.
@hurrrdurrr
@hurrrdurrr Місяць тому
@@kaseyboles30 But it does cause a lot more heat generation for not very much performance gain for the transistor count, and heat is becoming the single biggest problem as nodes become smaller. So it makes sense to ditch it in favor of more real cores.

Assuming there are enough cores, multi-core performance should increase without hyper-threading because you lose the command rate 2 overhead. So as long as you don't have to many threads then it should be great. Of course, without hyper-threading I think they really need 10 to 12 p-cores. I would like to see a high end arrow lake with 16 p-cores and 8 e-cores. Microsoft needs to fix it's cpu core parking logic in the scheduler. I think AMD will continue to beat intel on NPU and performance per watt just as they did before DDR3.

A lot of people talk as if Intel isn’t competitive, but they actually really are…they’ve just fallen marginally short of the performance crown in gaming their last four generations. It’s easy to forget with all the Intel fanboys coping, seething, and maulding so hard over it all the time, but even if Intel isn’t winning, they’re really only a few percent behind. We think this isn’t competition but it absolutely is. Heck we’re mostly giving Intel the short end of the narrative given Intel still takes some 80% of new domestic hardware CPU sales overall. Importantly, if you remove stacked V-cache from the equation, core-to-core Intel’s architecture actually IS still somewhat better. So it wouldn’t shock me if Intel managed to gain an advantage in CPU-based AI in upcoming generations. And that’s probably a significant incentive for Intel to continue pursuing the GPU market as well. Having said all that, Intel’s also throwing so much snake oil out there in recent years (ironic given their recent, quickly abandoned marketing slander against AMD), and cherry-picked benchmarks are the the rule rather than the exception for the ENTIRE industry…not just Intel. Any 3x claim almost always ends up being exactly that historically. Just like Intel keeps marketing 200% improvements in every other ARC driver release “for some games” but two years later ARC still lags behind where their power consumption and theoretical compute suggests they should be compared to Nvidia and AMD.

I'm actually getting tired from this killer that, killer I don't know what. Intel's latest CPU's has been a burning{400W} piles of mess. They renamed and resold the 13gen as a 14gen, claimed Ryzen is selling snake oil and they are the ones selling oil. Their comping CPU's ipc is worse than current gen, they changed the names into a more confusing word soup to decide customers, and their prices are stupidly high for what they offer. Their only saving grace is their GPU department putting work on ARC. It's baffling how the new GPU team is doing better than their older CPU team, but that how it goes. NO, next gen Intel won't beat Ryzen, and ryzen won't beat intel. It's competition. Want gaming? By a ryzen 7 7800x3d, it's cheaper, easier to cool, consume less power, and give the best performance. Needs a lot of cores for work? ryzen 9 7950x, it's not only offer comparable performance to intel, but it's consumes less power, and is more efficent.{Saved energy, saved money.} Want to work and game? Ryzen 9 7950x3d, it's that good. Want a lot lot of cores? Get a threadripper, simple, efficient, and monster CPU. If you want to game on the cheap? Get an intel I3 13f/14f or I5 13f/14f Want to buy a platform at it's end, with no possibility to upgrade without spending a lot of money? Buy intel, their motherboards are at their end.{Next gen would have a new MB so this don't apply}

Intel - needs great coolers, needs amazing power supply, needs high quality mobo, needs faster ram to match performance, still runs hot Amd - stock cooler gives 100% peeformance, cheap motherboard can run x3d because only 80watt, dont need fast ram because v cache mitigates the ram bottleneck, uses half the power for same gaming perxormance, cheaper cpu for same performance Somehow intel fanbois find a way trash AMD and intel is faster. Idk if Intel doesn't stack l3 cache like the X3D chips and is like 10% faster in modern games, I'd still take the X3D variant which completely delete Intel in older games that are poorly threaded ie they were made when 2-4 cores was the norm. Also if intel is going to be faster it will likely still need double the power to do so which is a big fail.

Theyre actually cheaper as couple years ago and PC is never a idiot choice cause you can do much more things with it, Console still doesnt have proper Mod support and no Ultrawide or Multiple Screen support. My man, haven't you gotten tired of amping up intel B.S yet? Intel was never great, and they've languished in outright suckery for years at this point. Arc was delayed by years, and while it has improved since launch it took too goddamn long to get to the middle. Battlemage, likewise has been delayed, specs have been severely slashed and as MLID has recently reported on RDNA4 performance, unless intel is planning to launch their flagship for under $400, they're going to be in the same position that they're in now Intel has failed to meet performance projections time and time again, despite delays being the norm instead of the exception, while the power envelope continues to be pushed to the stratosphere. Ryzen 9000, which will likely beat intel's new chip to market, has conservative estimates of 30% performance uplift.....and unlike intel, AMD has actually been meeting or beating those projections for the better part of a decade.....with fewer cores, at a fraction of the power consumption.

Building a new pc for my professional creative work. Gonna go with 14900k and 96gb of ddr5 ram. What is the equivalent top amd chip? I'll take a look at it but I know It's not an option because intel quick sync is so good that even if the amd chip was 10% faster which it isn't, quicksync would make intel worth it. AMD has no igpu sadly. Intels media engines are amazing.
@Daniel-hj5jt
@Daniel-hj5jt 28 днів тому
@@definingslawek4731 Top tier consumer grade chip is the 7950x, power consumption top end is half of the 14900k. Ryzen 9000, however is incoming (a drop in upgrade for the Am5 platform, and leaks have confirmed that the performance uplift is slated to be 30-40% over the 7950x, which translates to a 20%+ performance lead over the 14900k while maintaining the same power consumption, and AM5 is going to be supported for at least 2 more generations where the intel platform is already dead. But those are consumer grade chips. Professional grade is where Threadripper comes in, and that's a conversation that intel doesn't even factor into anymore. The cheapest threadripper is 24 core/48 thread 350w chip with a 350w TDP for $1500. Real cores mind you, not the E-core mess that intel offers up. That chip is 30% faster than the 14900k, but there are also 32 /64/96 core variants, and as expensive as you would likely assume. Now, for most i will grant that's an expensively tall order, but that still leaves the consumer grade platform leading in power consumption, and platform support, which is enough of a reason to at least give it some serious consideration, though i'd still suggest holding off until Ryzen 9000 drops.
@Daniel-hj5jt

@@definingslawek4731 hmmm...response didn't show for some reason. In terms of desktop, the 7950x is the top AMD productivity chip. 170w TDP, slightly cheaper, and platform support will extend to at least two more generations. But, ryzen 9000 is getting ready to drop, with leaks putting performance uplift at 30-40% over the 7950x, which will put it at a significant lead over the 14900k. But that's consumer grade. Professional grade is Threadripper. The cheapest entry is the 7960x, which is a 24 core 48 thread chip (real cores mind you, not E-cores) more PCI-E lanes, 350w TDP and 30% faster than the 14900k for around $1500, with 32/64/96 core variants as well, though those are considerably more expensive. Where a 14900k gets around 40,000 in cinebench r23, the 96 core threadripper does 125,000 stock, and has been overclocked to a score of over 200,000. Intel doesn't even enter into the conversation for top end productivity. The 14900k is on a dead platform, next gen intel will be moving to a new socket, and the outlook on their performance gains for next gen parts, isn't looking very good, which is enough of a reason to stay clear in my view.
